[QUOTE="Iantheone"]Ive never run into limited installs on Bioshock, but I have the Steam version. Also, I have lent friends my Steam games before. You just let them log into your account on their computer in offline mode, simple as that. dc337

Yea well read about the Bioshock DRM fiasco. Like a lot of pc games the DRM requirements have changed since release.

As for sharing I shouldn't have to let my friends log into my account in offline mode to play a game I no longer care about. That's probably a TOS violation and I would feel rather lame doing it. I give out 360 games because it is easy, just toss game at friend.

I can accept that I have been outvoted on this issue. DD was sold to pc gamers on the premise of lowering costs but Valve just keeps the retailer's cut for themselves. Those of us who want a dvd and case have been outvoted by pc gamers willing to send Valve $50 and now even $60 for a digital and non-transferable license.

I'll just buy multiplats on the 360 and support the few remaining pc companies that release games on DVD that are transferable.

And you have to give your disc to your friend for them to be able to play the game correct? Its pretty much the same thing, except instead of a disc I give them a password. For me, those $50-$60 pricetags are way way cheaper than buying a console game where I live. The difference is about $40. I could almost buy another game for that much (or many, depending on the sales), or I could save up for a hardware upgrade.

LOL pretty much the same thing? Giving them the password to your account is the same as handing them a console game? What if they want to give that same game to someone else? More importantly, what if you don't want to give out access to your entire account? Steam provides a non-transferable license. It isn't comparable.

As for non-US sales that is a different issue. It's an entirely different value comparison if console games are nearly twice as much. I wouldn't buy them at that price either.

[QUOTE="Espada12"]

[QUOTE="alfredooo"]That's smart. I'm just asking why to the people that do.... but apparently they have to go talk about sales and whatnot.

alfredooo

I'm not talking about sales though, games are just naturally cheaper on steam for me.

and that's cool.... all I'm asking is why would anyone (and there is apparently plenty of people) buy a DD on day 1. That's all. Sadly, all the hermits here went on defensive as soon as I questioned one aspect of Steam. I'm not even criticising the value of PC gaming, as a whole because you can still get physical copies of games.... I'm not even saying Steam is bad.

Because maybe, just maybe its a game they really want to play. A lot of the time you will even find pc gamers pre purchase the game, so they have already spent money on a game they cant even play yet. Why? Because they save money that way, and sometimes get free stuff. Example, Portal 2 on steam will cost £29.99, now with pre purchase thats £26.99 and a free copy of Portal, but what if you already have Portal? Well you can gift it to a friend who doesnt. Or what I did was pre purchase the 2 pack which is £47.98, so me and a friend put half each towards that and getting 2 copies of Portal as well. So I end up only paying £23.99.

That may not seem like I am saving much, but if you do that over a year with quite a lot of games been bought, it does add up. So to answer your question, no I dont feel ripped off.

[QUOTE="dc337"] Steam does not prevent piracy for months, that is a myth. The big name games like Fallout NV get cracked quickly since pirates take it as a challenge. All Steam does it delay piracy for a few weeks which means pirates just play something else until they can get their cracked version. Companies just end up annoying legit customers.

I'm fine with DRM if it works but Steam is a joke. Games like Fallout NV should come on a DRM free dvd but with a good pre-order bonus for legit customers. Stop requiring Steam/GFWL.

dc337

Yes, because Halo Reach wasn't pirated nor was Alan Wake.

That must mean the 360 is a joke. Oh and the PS3 now too, because that doesn't stop it either! According to you, every system is a joke.

The DRM in the 360 isn't something I have to install and it doesn't prevent me from transferring the game to a friend. It isn't comparable.

Steam adds a major restriction by preventing transfer and in return isn't doing anything to prevent piracy. The DRM in the 360 at least makes piracy more difficult for the 360 owner. Steam just delays piracy for a few weeks. It's a joke.

But way to defend a failed system.

Oh no, preventing transfer. Well that's too bad, most of my friends have money to buy games if they really want them, considering we all have full time jobs that pay a decent amount of money. I don't loan out games and I don't borrow games, simple as that. If I want it, I buy it, I have more than enough money. Sorry if you can't afford it, but that's your problem, not mine.

I love DD - its the future. No more going to the store and hoping to get copy of a popular game, you just DL it from home sweet home. Hermits love our home sweet homes, as implied by the label "hermit"...

The only way I'd feel ripped off is if Steam got shut down and I lose access to all my games. :PMrSelf-Destruct
that won't happen because valve said if steam did shut down, they would do something so everyone would still have all their games

How many PC gamers who buy retail copies actually sell them on Ebay or Amazon later? No, I don't feel ripped off by Steam.

[QUOTE="tagyhag"]I can get 13 games right now from Steam for $38.72. A bit more than half of what a console game costs. Do I feel ripped off? Hell no. :)

You can't get any new releases for that. Steam is only good for older games. People overrate Steam on these boards.

Eeh, I live in Europe, and the steamgames are around 10-20 bucks cheaper even at launch price, so no I dont :P

For the trade aspect, I am against the notion of tradeins per principle, so it is not a problem for me. I never trade in my console games either.

I have been fairly moderate with my steam purchaces tho, I think I kave around 141 games on it. While it may sound like alot I am fairly certain that my console game purchages through the consoles Ive had, are atleast twice the amount.

And don't console gamers feel ripped off when they pay $60-70 for a game that has no demo on PSN/XBL and it ends up sucking? Logic goes both ways.

[QUOTE="alfredooo"]

What are you talking about, bro? I asked a question about DD day one sales and people went off on steam sales and enviromentally friendly stuff. Everyone on the first just went "OMG he is bashing PC gaming. gotta prove him wrong" took 2 pages for someone to actually answer my question.

alfredooo

People answered your title as to why they didn't feel ripped off. Just because it's not the answer you were hoping to hear (For whatever reason ;) ) Doesn't mean anyone is attacking you.

people didn't answer as to why they buy DD copies on day one.... again, they just said that there is other good things about Steam. that's not an answer. I'm not questioning the quality of Steam so I don't need to hear about that.

saying there is good sales all the time doesn't answer why anyone would pay $50 for a DD, I don't why you would think that....

Straw men are cute aren't they? :P
