So it seems most people didn't watch the video in the link.
I sure wasn't impressed, (Want to find out how Halo compares to B. Spears?, watch the video!), but it is probably good for people not really into gaming. They don't add anything new to the discussion, but they do skim over some of the common complaints. Keybord and mouse >, repetetive design (walking back through same leves).
They do bring up what is probably the biggest reason why Halo is hated on. People hate Halo becasue Halo is big. Halo is more successful then pretty much whatever their choice FPS is. On the surface, Halo is just another run and gun FPS. It isn't suprising that Hermits don't see what makes Halo so good by just watching other people play, or worse, fumbling with the controler themselves.
They fail to touch at all on why Halo is so good. (Great AI, matchmaking mutiplay, Forge, outstanding co-op, etc...). The AI really sets the game apart. YOu can go back and play the same fight over and over and it won't play out the same. You can play co-op with 2 people on the same screen, or get 4 people and play the metagame and take advantage of skulls and play for points. Co-op has been around for a long time, but it has never been so well implemented before.
They hate it due to jealousy.dracula_16
They hate it due to jealousy.dracula_16We are sooooooo jealous of a game that just takes our year old gameplay mechanics and uses them. In all seriousness, hermits don't hate Halo. Hermits hate uppity fanboys that proclaim it to the be the second coming. From the hermit code of conduct: 3) Hate ye not the console. Realize the problem lies with the console fanboy.
It's pretty simple really. Hermits will claim Halo is full of old gameplay from previous PC titles and then tell us that the current shooters available on PC run circles around a 9.5 GOTY contender.
Throwing nuts and bolts > Driving a mongoose or warthog apparently.

Well the thing is..there's a huge difference between someone who dislikes Halo games and someone who hates Halo games. Some who dislikes them might have played them and they have legitimate reasons... which is fine because not everyone will like it.
Those who hate Halo games on the other hand tend to be people who have such strong negativity towards everything Halo related for no reason. This is due to jealousy and nothing more. Trust me, I made a Halo 3 thread a few days ago and I would need a calculator to add up all the jealous hermits.
[QUOTE="The_Ish"]I have Halo 3 and I am a PC gamer, I love it a lot. I'd say it was one of my favorite games ever.DrinkDuffIf only there were more people as open-minded as you. I also play a lot of PC FPS and the Halo series still ranks among my favorites ever(not so much the second one though).
cool i only play Call of duty united offensive on pc and am a 360 gamer and i must say no 360 game will EVER touch COD UO's multiplayer, ive been playing halo 3 since its release and it is good fun but i personally think cod4>>>Halo 3 multiplayer wise and cod uo>>>all multiplayer wise
Well...I need to disagree with some of the things the guy said.
1. The Level design in Halo 3 is great, that's one of the most important details in the game. Only the Library in Halo: Combat Evolved was repetive.
2.PC gamers don't like it because they're stuck to their keyboard and mouse, and I really don't care about that, but when they go to post reviews they give is '1's over and over, which shows they're just haters, nothing more, nothing less.
I watched it and he really didn't make a good case. The level design was the only real issue he had and many disagree with that issue, they reused textures but the battles within the environments have always felt different from area to area. The other issues were subjective. I like the ewok design and not every game should take it's self too seriously, Halo doesn't and it's one of the tings I like about it. The game is about light hearted fun rather than realism.
The last point is an non-issue, Halo didn't do anything revolutionary but that's true of just about every other game that has sold very well with the exception or maybe a handful (Dune 2, Wolf 3D, Viruta Fighter ect.) So i don't see why they single out Halo when so many other games are guilty of this.
2.PC gamers don't like it because they're stuck to their keyboard and mouse, and I really don't care about that, but when they go to post reviews they give is '1's over and over, which shows they're just haters, nothing more, nothing lessDuDisNowAgain, wrong. It just goes to illustrate how little the general gaming populous knows about hermits. We aren't too attached to a keyboard and mouse such to the extent that we blindly hate the controller. Not at all. Most hermtis are avid console gamers and enjoy playing those games. We just have a unique insight about Halo because we've played more FPS games and realize its not the second coming.
As a PC gamer of15 years, who despised consoles and their games, Halo CE converted me big time. Playing multiplayer with 4-8 of us was just so much fun and people of all levels could enjoy it.
Halo 2 single player was awful but MP was huge fun on XBlive and having moved over to the states it let me stay in contact with some of buddies from back home.
Just really started playing Halo 3 last week cos of work commitments but loving it so far. SP is ok, better than 2, not as good as CE, multi player has been great so far :)
If only there were more people as open-minded as you. I loved Halo 3 singleplayer but I got tired of multiplayer pretty fast due to lack of Clan support (something that seems to have cursed xbox 360 as of late.... no games with good clan support) personally I dont see what the big fuss about Halo 3 is the games multiplayer is repeative and the reward is minimal

I think everyone needs to stop assuming PC gamers don't like Halo. There is a few but there are also people like myself who have been playing PC games for over 20 years who enjoy the series. I have some issues with the game and consoles in general but I have just as many issues if not more with the modern PC gamer. I could say more bad things about WOW then halo without trying too hard. Not that I hate the game of course. My advise to anyone that hates any game is to just relax and play what you do enjoy.

yup i own to have a 360 pad just to play games on my pc, this video pretty much summerize why i dont like halo, but i dont hate the game either, its an good 360 game but i have fps's on my pc that just feel better, and ive played the first 2 games and i will try out the third as soon as i get a chance, i dont think it will change my mind but it wont hurt to give it a try, pc gamers are more open minded then most people think

The Problem with halo is it's hardcore fans though. Halo is a great game, but SP wise I could name nearly a dozen FPS better, Half-Life being the iceing on the cake.
[QUOTE="Holden1985"]I only played the first halo and thought it was good but the level design was really boring like that guy said but i thought the flood was cool and the vechicles.sSubZerOo
Speaking of which, why does the Covenant speak perfect english? Even if they did why would they be using the language letting Master Chief know they are pissing their pants.
..... that question has been asked of just about every single bit of Sci-fi ever made. Simple answer: Having the aliens talk in a foreign language with subtitles would be annoying.
No one can deny that Halo: Ce was a GREAT FPS for its time, and not just for consoles but also for PC games. This put pc gamers off, because they weren't used to a Console FPS that could rival pc FPS at the time. So they were jealous and bashed it. When Halo Ce came out for the pc, 2 years later pc gamers weren't that impressed, and nore should they have been cuz 2 years had past and Halo: Ce wasn't that special anymore...SpaceDragonMan
I agree. At the time on PC I was playing RTCW, Tribes 2 and Medal of Honor: AA. There is no doubt Halo was on par with these games and even offered some nice unique console feature like split-screen co-op. RTCW and Halo were my most played FPS that year, RTCW for MP and Halo for SP and co-op.
even though halo does have its faults, i do think its up there with the best FPS out, i just tend not to get involed in all the PC vs Console arguments, at the end of the day, PCs do things better than consoles, consoles do things better than PCs, i also think people should play a game before they judge.
btw this is just my opinion

Don't want to seem like a troll here, but am I the only one who utterly despised RTCW? Nothing about the game stood out for me, hell I was amped as it was the sequel to the first REAL FPS of all time.

I enjoyed the MP and even played the beach demo map for ages. There is also something else I would like to add to what I was saying before. I was looking forward Halo long before it was an Xbox game and continued to look forward to it when it changed platform to Xbox. I bought the Xbox for Halo at launch and not the other way around.

Me too, I pre-ordered it and played Halo the day it came out. The Previews had me sold months before hand. Finished it the first night with a friend on co-op.
Now don't get me wrong I like Halo 3, and I am a PC ownertoo with an AMDDual cored 8800 monster. I like the single player on Halo 3 but its nothing groundbreaking and I can't understand how people seem to love the multiplayer so much, its ok....err...thats it. Give me Gears anyday, bad guys don't explode in front of you in Halo.
Now I'm no graphics whore, heck I bought Halo 3 then started to play Halo 2 untill completion just so I could find out what Halo 3 was all about. Thing is although most ofthe textures seem good their nothing special, and don't get me started on the aliasing, man this thing is jaggy in places. I feel that my PC could handle this game as it looks now but in 1440x900 (not 1280x640, yeah halo isn't 720p native).

I kind of felt the same way but good online MP and cutting edge graphics can go along way. A good dose of ID fanboyism did not hurt either. The single-player in RTCW was absolutely terrible and to this day I have not completed it. It's a good example of a less then perfect game I enjoyed because it had a few very good elements. The beach level as I mentioned before was one of my favorite MP levels in a FPS and one of my most played. Some of the others were not so great but there weren't any I hated.

lol I wondered about the english thing as well, it makes it funier. Plus it would be kind of lame if all you could hear was a bunch of grunts and wierd noises through the whole game.
I'd bet most Halo players wouldn't think it was all that if they'd ever played Tribes before touching Halo.Zeliard9
Freackin' hell man!
I beat Halo 3 like yesterday, and it just felt empty. Going to find my ooold Tribes 2 CD now. Hell yeah. Katabatic all the way. I do like Halo 3, and imho it's the best FPS ON CONSOLE I've ever played. But considering that it's all been done... 5-7 years ago... it just feels too de ja vu.

Listen, a lot of us PC Gamers also have 360's, in fact PC Gamers probably have more experience playing all sorts of games rather than your stereotypical console only gamer. The majority of people that say Halo is a good game, like myself, own the game and have beat it and played the multiplayer. I'm 100% honest when I say that Halo is good, not great, and that I would much rather have Half Life 2 Episode 2 any day of the week.
Great AI? The PC has that. Halo is not any better than the majority of PC Games.
Matchmaking Multiplay? The PC has been doing online multiplayer long before the Xbox came to be, ask any PC gamer, matching players according to skill is fine for consoles, but it's not as welcomed to the PC platform as you would imagine. I would much rather have a list of thousands of servers in which I can browse through and pick off as favorites. I never got better at a game by playing with similar opponents. It was always the guys who would pound on me that got me better.
Forge? Come on man, that's the most obvious. Look no further than just about every SDK that's released with a lot of PC Games. For some fun, look no further than Garry's Mod. Point is, Halo isn't doing anything that the PC doesn't offer. Also, Find me one PC game that was given a better score because it included an SDK. You can't. Look out for UT3 to score the same on PS3 and PC, even though the PC version gives you an enormous value in having the unreal editor packed in for pleasure. Also, the fact that Garry's mod was never given recognition, and Forge is, just shows a ridiculous bias.
Co-op is Halo's one strength that I enjoy immensely. And it's the only reason I haven't put my copy on ebay. BUT, the PC has had co-op, and the most successful co-op play for the longest time, it's called MMO's! Again, playing with your buddies and having random fun is nothing new to the table. If you are looking for excellent co-op with random environments every time you play, look no further than the upcoming Hellgate London or just rely on the Juggernaut of WoW or LOTRO or Guild Wars or any other MMO on the planet. And let's not forget about Diablo 2 please.
What many of the Halo fanboys get confused with is the fact that when people say Halo is good, doesn't mean people are dissing the game. It's just NOTAS enjoyable compared the other games that the majority of the gaming world enjoy. The 9.5 that Jeff gave the game is his opinion, which he is more than welcome to. If Jason Ocampo was reviewing the game, it wouldn't have scored as high. Point is, people take GS scores by themselves a bit to serious. I couldn't imagine the hatred spewed at Jeff if he only scored it a 9.

Yes because having the little ewok aliens run from you is brilliant AI.. The most advanced thing I have seen the Ai do is crawl into a shield for a limited time or grab cover.. It has done nothign new what so ever.. As I say again the only thing remotely interesting is the co-op.. That is all.. Matchmaking multiplayer? Thats nothing new, Forge? Still pc had this over a decade ago... In the end its a great game not one of the best games by a long shot..
PC Gamer here, since 94 and onwards. Halo3 like HaloCE (not Halo 2) are remarkable games yes Halo3 is notas amazing for its time as HaloCE was. Yes I had played a lot of PC FPS at the time of Halo CE and their were some good games but as good as Halo CE and as polished as it was especially with the amount of buggy gameson the time of PC then, only DE & HL can compare to Halo in that window period.
Do I like Halo3 yes. Do I think its greatest ever no. Is it one of the best ever, possibly. I do have qualms with the jaggies, AA, Im not so fussed about resolution. But the game out and out rocks.
There are so many great levels. Ok the first 2 are plain boring but once the action kicks off especially on Heroic/Legendary it is a FPS fans delight. The combat is intense like F.E.A.R but without the bland locations, simple weaponary, no vehicular combat. Halo3 is a great game and its a shame PC dont get it on release I'd love to play it on my lappy with x8+ AA and a higher Res would be a amazing game.
Halo 3 in full is a candidate for game of the year. Crysis, Unreal has some stiff competition and its gonna be a a delight to be a FPS fan.

This guy shows exactly what most PC gamers think. We are not trying to diss Halo. It's just annoying when people come on here and talk crap like "Halo is the the best FPS ever even vs PCs!" because it obviously is not true.
As a PC gamer and huge FPS gamer, I don't hate Halo. However I do feel it's given far more praise than it deserves.
My favorite aspect of the franchise has always been co-op. I've never really liked the game's campaign for the storyline or level design, but co-op has always been really fun. I've never really liked any of the game's multiplayer components either..as it's always been pretty run-of-the-mill and uninspired. I don't see how people play that mess for hours on end (that is, if they have indeed played other multiplayer FPS games before.) "Generic" is a rather fitting term (excepting Forge..the Garry's Mod rip-off.)
