@ Lowel ( HTML errors on quotes again )Half-Life 2 was a masterpiece of game design and art direction, but it ran very well on PCs of the time. Crysis' achievements are realistic foliage, complex physics, and large levels - these aren't amazing advancements, they're natural progressions that would have been made possible by more powerful hardware. In reality, all Crytek did is ignore the limitation of current hardware, and when the predictable result happened (a game that runs about as fast as a Chevette), they copped out by saying they designed it for PCs that don't exist yet.Relative how? Half-Life 2 sold well on release, looked ahead of anything on the Consoles by a land slide, and still holds its own today.
Meu2k7
In contrast, you don't see this on consoles because there's no point in creating content that doesn't run at a decent framerate on your customer's hardware.
Crysis 2 will the the Half-Life 2 of this generation .. miles ahead.Meu2k7
True, but as of now, Crysis has experienced poor sales. However, I believe sales will get better once the hardware required to run it gets cheaper.
Well the PC does have the major edge in graphics. (I want to see Medieval 2 Total War running on the PS3 or 360) The PC also leads the way for innovative gameplay in nearly all genres (except for fighters, sports games, and the beat-em-up).
Games like Sins of a Solar Empire, Crysis, Medieval 2 Total War, or anything as epic as those can ever be found on a console. Once you start PC gaming you will realize how more immerse, deep, and fulfilling PC gaming is. The quality is also much higher. PC games sell exponentially. When a amazing game comes out, it sells well for years. Unlike console games, which usually sell really well right away.
Crysis can run on last generation hardware perfectly fine. BOOOM goes your arguement.VandalvideoI'll hear you out on this one. You've got a 7600 GT, if I recall correctly (and I might not). What kind of benchmark results are you getting at 1280x1024, no AA? I tried it on a 6800GT, and even with the resolution turned down to 800x600 and every setting on low, it was still slower than a turtle on Vicodin.

Actually, I have a 7900GS, which came out roughly 2 and a half to three years ago, during the last generation. Crysis is the most technologically advanced game currently on the market, and I'm able to play this game on medium high settings and acheive better graphics than anything currently on consoles. Its a miracle that this game can run on such a wide variety of PCs, and produce astounding graphics. Find me a regular xbox that can play Gears as well as my last gen PC can play Crysis, and maybe we'll talk.
[QUOTE="Ramadear"]The PS3 and 360 are a poor mans PC, for those who don't have the intelligence to put together and operate a gaming PC.lowe0
Really. I'm a Purdue grad and I make my living as a software developer. Still think I don't have the intelligence to spec, assemble, and use a gaming PC, especially since I did so for years before I switched to consoles?
I'm not poor, I'm not dumb, and I game on consoles. That whistling sound you hear is your pathetic argument spiraling down in flames into the ground.
And you represent the majority of console gamers? Are you saying that all console gamers are software developers and have significant knowledge about a PC? Probably not, so what I said doesn't not apply to you. Unless you want it to.
Actually, I have a 7900GS, which came out roughly 2 and a half to three years ago, during the last generation.VandalvideoWhich is a G71 chip, exactly the same as the PS3's RSX. Only your GS has 4 fewer pixel pipelines, 1 fewer vertex pipelines, and a 18% slower core clock (it does have more memory bandwidth, but the PS3 only has to push 720p anyway). I fail to see how it's doing anything the RSX couldn't do.
Oh, and the 7900 GS came out in fall 2006, which was, at most, 18 months ago. That's not 2 1/2-3 years by my math.
An Xbox... that'd be 6 year old hardware. Kind of a stretch to suggest that a 6 year old PC would run Gears at all, don't you think?Find me a regular xbox that can play Gears as well as my last gen PC can play Crysis, and maybe we'll talk.

I am now convinced this is a joke thread. Thanks for the laugh.
The other day I was playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Dark Crusade on my 360, thinking "man, I can't wait for Crysis to come out on the PS3". Then I booted up my Wii to play some Guild Wars with my clan.

Yeah, I'd be furious if a $600 video card didn't last more than 2 1/2 years. The 7800 GT was "only" $450, but do you really think it's capable of running Crysis? On top of that they can't even do HD.
[QUOTE="mismajor99"][QUOTE="cshwzp"]Back in 1998 on consoles the best FPS would be Goldeneye single analog crap that run at 10-15 fps. The only multiplayer option was a pitiful splitscreen. PC gamers were enjoying Quake 2, Half-Life, Counter-Strike, Unreal by that time both in LAN parties and online. PC RPGs were flourishing with games Baldur's Gate, Fallout, Planescape Torment.
Today the difference is rather neglible no longer is there such a huge gap between visuals (Though hermits will talk about Dual Cores and DX10 something they won't see for another 2 years). Now consoles have full online (free and better on the PS3), LAN support, and they have evolved online infrastructures. Practiclly every PC game is a non exclusive. The top PC developers like Epic and Bioware are now making their biggest games for the PS3 rather than PC. Now most PC RPGs are MMORPG oriented garbage, look at Hellgate London for proof as it's the most hyped PC RPG.
It's hard to deny how consoles are literally destroying PC's superiority.Ramadear
-Clumsy Analog Sticks + Plastic Guitars + Gimmicky Motion Control = the reason I will always play NHL, Rock Band, and Mario on console
-Mouse and keyboard + Open Environment + Kick Arse Hobby =the reason I will always play FPS + RTS + MMO + CRPG + Everything Else on PC
You forgot to mention that PCs have the option to use gamepads as well. But for most games it isn't required. And the best part of all is that PC assimilates consoles in time through emulation.
I like to be nice, and make sure I don't pour it on too hard :)
good points though, and there are a thousand others, but the ones I mentioned were the first to come to mind. To me, and in my humblie opinion instead of IMHO, it's much easier to "justify" being a "proud" PC Gamer, such as myself, and knowing I will always wave the PC Gaming flag no matter what.
I love the independence that is completely proprietary and represents the opposite of corporate console land. I love the fact that I can downlaod a sweet new source mod on a saturday morning after a long week at work, and withoug paying $60 dollars for a console game that isn't worth a damn in a month. Call me old, call me "outdated", I love my mouse and keyboard. Yes, that doesn't mean I don't enjoy having some buddies, and their pain in the arse wives over, but I still enjoy a console environment, it's just not practical.
I couldn't imagine hijacking the hdtv in the living room every night to play COD4, I would much rather play in peace in my home office with mouse and keyboard, a sweet rig, and an option for my 5.1 surround or headphones. I think most of these kids without "better halfs" would think about gaming in a different way if they were living under different circumstances.

Crysis also achieved something else: large, always-interactive, and persistent game maps. That's why the memory requirements are so high even on the lowest graphics settings. The only console game to attempt to offer that level of free roaming was Lair...and we know how that turned out.[QUOTE="wok7"][QUOTE="DragonfireXZ95"][QUOTE="wok7"][QUOTE="tionmedon"]pc`s are part of sw,we r gamers 2DragonfireXZ95

I beleive that the only gaming system left is DS it is the most sold and games r made only for kids. The best games were all on consoles :|..... I think its more like the best games were not on ps3:oops:.
Look at the multiplats and the exclusives of every single game released since nov 2005 and tell me there r no good pc games.

I hear that man, I definitely appreciate that aspect of the PC. I guess its a matter of preference though because most seem to dislike the k&m and sitting in front of a monitor. But most PC gamers enjoy it. Consoles are too limiting imo, but I'm not saying they are bad. But they are for a much different crowd than those you find that enjoy PC gaming.

Very true, very true.
The funny thing is though, I've always been a PC Gamer and a console gamer, always leaning towards the PC as my favorite platform of choice. Last weekend we had a party with about 30 people over, and being the PC Gamer I am, I still had a blast playing Rock Band, but still couldn't wait for a round of World In Conflict and a few rounds of COD4 PC. You're right though, I think there is a different mentaility bewtween pure console gamers and pure PC Gamers. If it wasn't for Sega back in the 80's, I would probabaly be PC only my entire 30 years on earth ;)

Actually, that PC is part of System Wars is both listed in and linked to in the official System Wars Welcome and Information sticky. Stating that "PC isn't part of System Wars" is considered disruptive posting, same as it always was.

Man Wasdie's tune has sure changed. This once proud cow now grazes the grace of Hermitsville. Not that anything is wrong with that. Its just a geniune change that actually isn't, "I went from 360 to PS3 because of Blu-Ray, Cell, and Home."
1 unreal 3 has been out for months on pc while its still on on consoles.
2 basicly every game uses dual core
3 consoles are loosing there spitscreen advantage they used to have
4 farcry (2004) looks as good as most console games as does hl2 (2004) and quake 4 (2005) and no console game even looks as good as crysis on med not to mention high or very high and has level 1/4 the size if that.
Actually, the PC has the most exclusives, clocking in at FIVES TIMES more AAes than the 360, and more AAAEs than the 360. Not to mention the PC is lightyears more advanced already thanks to Crysis. PC gaming hasn't lost its edge, and only a consolite would say that.VandalvideoIndeed

It ran fine on my 9600pro
Yea you wish PC Gaming was losing it's edge. It's actually sharping up it's razor. There are many PC games which can't be played on consoles due to their limitations. Great games.
1) S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
2)World of Warcraft
3)Mmo's in general great one's like City of Heroes etc.
4)Source mods that are 100% free.
If a game is made for a console it is a downgraded experience compared to what it can be if it was made on PC then ported over to console. For the perfect example look at Deus Ex 1 and then Deus Ex 2. Deus Ex 1 PC port and DX 2 Xbox port. Clearly part 1 was superior.
PC games have their own market and their own gamers. It will not die so easily as you may think. Also you are probably using a PC to post this so your argument is nullified.
let me rub this in, we the hermits have gotten a new map for TF2 (free) and more maps (FREE) coming our way. hmmm don't you consolites need to pay for maps or something :)
PC gamin not dying not going to die, please refer crysis, stalker, world of warcraft, intel and nvidia.

I don't think you understand exactly what HD really is. It's all about resolution and clearly you don't seem to get that.
PC games and competition? Let's see...how about the sheer number of FPSes, good and bad, that try to beat each other and don't even get me started about the strategy genre. If there isn't any competition in that genre in regards to PC gaming, then apparently my entire life has been a dream.
However, why I'm posting in System Wars, I'll never know...I should stop (and so should everybody else) as it's just a wormhole that just sucks the intelligence out of everybody.
