Why Vista? No one is forcing you to buy it.. And only a few games (that are poor at that such as Halo 2, Shadowrun etc etc) require Vista.. As it stands most are waiting for a better OS.. Vista was over hyped garabage that delivered on none of the promises that were made, and ended up worse in performance then XP.

3870x2 is crap. Throw AA in any game and the FPS will tank.

pc gaming is bigger than the 3 console together. The difference bethween pc gaming and console gaming is that the pc community is spread around hundred of games, while the online console gaming community is playing the boomfest of the month, then move to the next boomfest. I have no number, but I would be extremely surprised to see people still playing Jedi academy on the xbox, while the pc version number are still in the 2000 at any time of the day and no there is no friend list, no micro communication and that probably why old game are still active, you are not following your friend hype.

On pc, you can have 100 peoples playing supreme commander mp, 250 000+ playing CS, 10 000 playing warbird 3 and I could continue the list with the hundred of old game that are still active in mp, game you never hear of probably, but still got thousand of followers.

Fun post, everyone keeps saying PC gaming is dead, but us PC gamers rarely have time in-between the epic selection of games we have to step out to the forums and let everyone know we're still around. Have been gaming on PCs since around the time Doom came along and I have to say 2007 was probably one of the best years I've ever seen for PC gaming in terms of great releases and graphics hardware, doubt developers and hardware manufacturers would keep going to the lengths they do for a dead medium. As far as Vista is concerned, I love getting all 4 gigs of my memory + my 1536 MB of video memory (no pagefile ftw), even if it is costing me 3-5 FPS in a game.

The only thing that has disappointed me lately is DirectX 10 which is why I think a lot of people bash Vista, made promises to put more on the GPU and thus increase performance, but all it really does is hinder it. Other than that, I'd say PC gaming is alive and well, just need more companies like Crytek to push the evelope so we can get the amazing games that the hardware we have are capable of generating.

Are you aware that software (non-download) sales made up 30% of the entire gaming industry last year :|

Think about all the other consoles seperately, and downloads.

At 1600 by 1200 the 3870x2 has a 35% lead over the 8800 Ultra with NO AA

With 8xAA it has a 84% lead

Same settings No AA on Oblvion the 3870x2 has a 25% lead

8xAA it has a 85% lead :lol:

FEAR SAME SETTINGS No AA 28% lead

8xAA 65% lead!!!

by gamers they probably include people wo play the occasional casual game on the internet, and you don't need that great of hardware to play stuff like that. And anyway what do you mean by "gaming gpus" and "gaming cpus", there are none just some gpus and cpus are higher end and are used more for hradcore gaming.

its far bang for buck, a 9600gt will run all games except crysis maxed out for under 1/4 the price, a highend card is never bang for buck, but ati do have some great value cards

Either way, it's got a bigger userbase than all of the consoles from this gen and last gen combined. That's being rather generous, as it assumes that all of the console users from both gens are all different people.

When MS says 80% of PC users are gamers, they are including the people who have a PC and occassionally play solitaire, minesweeper, bejewelled, majong, etc.
