PC gaming - What's wrong with it?

You guys look for trouble where there's none to be found, and when you find no trouble you start some.

Just take a step back, and try to see what a PC gamer is intending to present to other gamers rather than regarding every "Pro PC" sentiment as elitist.

I'm a PC gamer (my rig isn't that good now but I'm building a new 1000 dollar rig as we speak) and the biggest problem with PC for me is that many of their "exclusives" seem to be expansion packs. I know that an expansion pack can provide loads of content, sometimes comparable or even more than a full game, but in the end they are simply expansion packs. I wish PC would have more IPs instead of expansion pack spamming of MMO and RTS games, but whatever.

Yes, unfortunate reality is that the elitist Hermits greatly exaggerate the difference in gaming quality between PC and consoles. Sure, PC is better. But its no last-gen level difference.. You should try mods btw, especially those for the Total War games, Fallout, etc. REALLY amazing stuff.

There is nothing wrong with PC gaming. There is nothing wrong with console gaming. Events have occured that have positively and negatively affected every current system. None of the events have yet stopped games from being released for us, as human beings, to play. As long as games are still being released, there will not be anything wrong with gaming.

I disagree. There is certainly something wrong with console gaming...How it butchers quality PC titles by making them into consolized ports is one reason. Battlefield 3 is next on the list.

I can't speak for everyone else, but not really, no. I only apply the "elitist" tag to "you just don't know any better, and aren't willing to learn"-type arguments. I don't bother with the "expensive" argument (as the upfront cost is subsidized, not free), I list off the actual cases where console simplicity pays off instead of just referring to them with a blanket "hassle" statement, and while I don't care for mods, that's a personal opinion, not an argument.

I know lots of people that regard PC gaming as a hobby rather than just a means of entertainment because there are those of us who just have a whole lot of fun working with PCs, and tweaking our games to get them running, and because of this added effort there are those that won't have interest in it as I stated.

Someone could tell me just how truly amazing it is to work on cars, and drive souped up muscle cars, or how much fun drag racing is, and compare all that to me driving my 1998 Mazda Protege, but unless I care about putting the effort into learning, and being a part of that then chances are I'm not going to get involved. But I'm also not going to discuss cars as if I know more about them than that guy. That would be true ignorance.

You can not say with a straight face that all the people who start arguments bashing the PC are more knowledgeable than those whom are for the platform. In my experience with this website it's a rare occurrence to find a long-time PC gamer start an argument (with good foundation) against the platform that leads to a good discussion. Mainly because System Wars is a fanboy-dominated section of this site.

i play zombie panic source on steam . I have tired many mods . However most mods are bad or poorly supported .

i have all the total war games. its one of the few rts games i like on pc these days. i really dont like where rts has gone in recent years. star craft is cool but its just to hard core for me. some people play that game like 8 hours a day . i will end up running into some korean dude who beats me in less then 60 seconds witch will just frusterate me .

Well thats why Starcraft 2 has the skill based matching system. They match you with people your own skill level.

I just don't like PC's lack of uniformity. it's helter-skelter. unorganized.

but that's what you should expect from an open-platform.

To add to the discussion, lets not forget that many people NEED a new computer at least every few years. Many people need afaster computerfor work purposes.But every computer starts to slowdown from normal use and you either reinstall Windows (or your OS of choice) or upgrade to a faster computer. How many console users here are actually using a computer more than 5 years old?

Rarely do PC gamers need to reinstall anything when they upgrade their hardware or buy a new game. I have the PS3 and my biggest annoyance is having to download the latest firmware or game patch in order to even play the game. On the PC, rarely are you forced to download a new driver or patch. And if you do decide to reinstall Windows do you know how long it takes? Installing Windows 7 is pretty fast. And you talk as if console hard drives last foreever and that the system lifespan is forever. And yes you can stick with Windows 7 foreever if you like or at least for a very long time. Check the statistics. Many Xp users never upgraded to Vista. I certainly didn't.

The only qualm I have with PC gaming is not the gaming itself but the possibility of viruses. Just a month ago I got the Black Internet virus when it was relatively new and a lot of anti-virus programs (AVG 9.0, Malwarebytes) I used could not find the source of the problem.

I eventually found a thread on the Steam forums which helped me out.

There's nothing wrong with it really. It's just a lot less convenient than consoles and I don't like how segmented it is. It's also a lot more expensive to start up unless you already own a pretty good PC.

I've been playing PC games for the last 15 years and now how a computer work and the defence that people just don't want to learn how a PC work and console players are just lazy or too stupid is extremely ignorant. Even if you know how a PC work you still have to sacrifice time to get the games to run. That time-consuming work doesn't disappear just because you know how to work on a PC, you still have to do the actual work.

I spent more time last year trying to get Cryostatis to work than it took me to finish the game afterwards.

When I was younger I found that fun and almost part of the game but right now it's only annoying and takes away from the little time I have to play games.

That and the fact that there simply isn't enough Japanese games in the western PC world. If Japanese developers would translate more of their adventure games and put them out on steam or maybe gog.com I would gladly spend that time-consuming work that I just ranted on to play them.

Then how bad and difficult is to install a game and how boring is to wait ( when waiting the long Load screens on Consoles is better!!! etc ) , then how saky is Keyboard + mouse combo vs Controllers ( like you cant play with them on PC!!! )

i kinda of find this funny only because youre reasoning behind not gaming on a pc is one of my reasons for being on the pc.

i dont have time for the consoles.

i spend most of my time on my pc either on forums, editing movies, writing ect. i dont have time to go to my other room to play a console nor do i feel like changing disks and waiting for games to update.

i just want to click and play. something i get with my pc.

I have both, and I play consoles for the exclusives I can't get on PC. I also play the PC for exclusives I can't get on the consoles.

Prejudice is a judgment arrived at without prior experience. I started PC gaming over 15 years ago - how is it you suppose I lack prior experience?
