PC Gaming - Why Consoles Are Superior. (56k Warning)

Consoles are great and all, but I got by just fine without one for, oh, many years, and after all that time I still prefer PC gaming. Just my personal choice.

i agree with all points apart from variety, also add to the list that pc games suffer from various issues that you get problems in installs, crashing in game, terrible optimization or problems with certain drivers that cause visual bugs in the game or stuttering and if something is wrong with your hardware you gonna have to test them all to figure out which one.dakan45

When you pay $300 for a console, you can play the latest games for many years to come.

When you pay $300 for PC, you will find yourself upgrading your hardware to keep up with the most demanding games. The graphics may not look as good when compared to the PC version of the same game (assuming you have the latest hardware), but the fact that the games of the near-future (Rage, Killzone 3) will run at 100% on your system without the need of any upgrades is a great feeling.

Portability - Bring your console with you. Instant gaming at your friend's place.

Why would they be slimming down our consoles? Of course it's not just for looks.

Yes, it's true. People take their consoles with them.

Unless you have a mini-ATX build, your PC is staying home.

Accessibility - Anyone can do it. Get together with friends.

Just plug in and play. Don't worry about the hardware. We have that covered. Have fun for the next several years.

The games. The variety. Consoles have them, PCs don't.

It's not just about exclusivity. It's the variety that makes consoles get more attention from the masses.

Find a game like Super Mario Galaxy 2 on the PC. You can't

Find a game like Uncharted 2 on the PC. You can't.

Find a game like Little Big Planet 2 on the PC. You can't.

What you can find on the PC are games that can only take advantage of the mouse/keyboard configuration (for the most part).

Consoles get a lot more attention from the mainstream because consoles offer games for everyone.

1. A $700 PC can: Rpi audiio cd's, Rip Dvd's , Use teh internet in a non horrible and limited way the PS3 browser does, Burn Mp3 cd's for your car stereo , Use microsoft office for your college work, Download Demos from Gamespot, Do a bit of java programming, Create a level using cryengine editor, Edit your camera photos and store them, edit your holiday videos, use google earth, book your holidays , post on SW about pc gaming is dying etc etc etc etc etc

Can the consoles find me a $700 console that can do all that and much more? Thought so

3. Accesibility. If you are that worry about accesibility start buying games on Steam. It automatically downloads any extra needed software to play the game and supports autopdates. This is not 1995 pc gaming is much easier nowdays

TEH LIST

PC 12AAAE 78AAE and 82AE ( Far more especially on AAE and AE from any console and in fact more than the PS3 and 360 combined and that includes variety as well)

Games like Stalker you cant find on Consoles

Games Like Sins of a Solar Empire ( Can you find a game as complex as this on Consoles )

Games like Empire Total War ( Can you find something with as big scale as that on consoles. The new total war game will have up to 60000 units on screen )

Arma 2 ( Find me a military sim like that on console )

Anno 1404 ( find me a game remotely as close to Anno series on consoles )

5. Software prices

New pc games $40-50. New console games $60. Steam sales. 700 games on sale and games like mass effect 1 for 3euros or Street fighter 4 or RE5 for 10 euros ( nothing like that on consoles and in that scale )

6. Mods

Fallout 3 Fook mod ( good luck getting fallout 3 like this on consoles and with a few hundred extra weapons, armors and other items )

Or good luck getting this on left4dead console Version

• You can pay $300 for a PC too, and with all these Kinect's and Moves, and Motion+'s, you make up for the difference very quickly.
• PC's are portable too... ever hear of a laptop?
• Ever hear of Facebook games and Peggle? Yeah... didn't think so
• The PC still has the most, highest scoring and most varied exclusives of all the platforms. Just because you can't get Sony-brand or Nintendo-brand games on it, doesn't make it a bad system. This is an incredibly flawed argument... its like saying the PS3 is bad because you can't play Galaxy on it.

The PC is the most versatile platform available, which is why it is the biggest and fastest growing gaming market in the world, with the most online gamers (bigger than the entire console and handheld install base combined) and the largest install base (almost any computer can game if you give it the chance). This thread is based off the same old misconceptions about PC gaming and failed before take-off.

You think consoles have a wider variety of games than the PC? Are you crazy? PC is capable of playing every 'variety' of game the consoles have, you can't say that the reverse is true. Consoles are more mainstream because they're easier and cheaper, which only counts as positive qualities if you value cheapness and easyness over quality and depth. The rest is just brand-name recognition and bias. You name specific games which you happen to love because they areexclusive to your console, but as a PC gamer I don'tneed to have an obvious bias consisting of pre-concieved notions about what is 'good' that is dictated to me by some giant corporate conglomerate. It's quite liberating, really.

The only reasons to choose consoles over PC is because you're scared, deep down, that you don't have what it takes to handle a machine with that much potential for awesome.

True, but my laptop only lasts for few weeks.. ALL 8400M GPUs are inherently defective. I had the damn mainboard replaced three times already. Nvidia COMPLETELY ignored the issue and I hate them for that.

Never buying an Nvidia product again.

The United States seriously needs a law protecting people from products with inherent defects..

Point and click adventure games on PC have way better and more mature stories than something like Uncharted 2 or Gears of War. That's what I read on the back of the box. Pretty good character development in that game.

So, you saying it only cost 300$ for one console... yet when you talk about variety, you add every console together... awesome, find me one console who can play the 3 games you mentionned for 300$.

I've had too many bad experiences with ATI though. Plus the 480 I ordered has a custom cooling unit, and runs on average 35 degrees cooler. :P

I agree with TC 100%. PC gaming is alright, I play games like Halo, World of Warcraft and Team Fortress 2 on my PC. But that's only because I don't have an Xbox to play Halo 1, WoW isn't available on any console, and Valve didn't finish the PS3/360 version of TF2. (There are a lot of things missing.) And I like console exclusives more than PC exclusives. I can't play Uncharted, Warhawk, Sonic Unleashed, LittleBigPlanet, Skate 2, MLB10 the Show, Star Ocean 4, White Knight Chronicles, DBZ Burst Limit, Tales of Vesperia or Metal Gear Solid 4 on my PC. Console gaming is superior in my mind mostly because there are better games. (And everything else TC suggested.)

You can't play Europa Universalis III,Hearts of Iron III,Sins of a Solar Empire,Starcraft II,WoW,Empire:Total War,Arma 2,Company of Heroes,Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War 2 ,The Witcher,S.T.A.L.K.E.R,Shattered Horizon or Civilization IV(the actual civ game,not the consolized one) on consoles.

Most of the games you listed I didn't even like. Ever think that the term "better" is actually subjective and that people might not like any of those games?

Saying "Well I can't play x game on x console or pc" isn't getting us anywhere.

I'm just going to say that I think PC gaming has too many RTS and mmorpgs for my taste. Sure the multiplats look better, but I don't want to keep upgrading a computer to keep up.

I think you can buy a PS3 and 360 for the same price as a gaming PC, and I would definitely take both of those over a gaming PC.

It has nothing to do with the cooling. The chip itself is defective. It's actually very similar to the soldering problem in the Xbox 360. It's not really about overheating, it's about heat cycles. The GPU dies about 2-3 weeks after repair every time.
