I swear there's more graphic cards amounced than PC games this year.
Why not devs concentrate to get the most out of the 7x and 8x family instead of being lazy forcing people to upgrade?
When will it end?

I'm pretty much maxing everything with my 8800GTX@1200p... don't know what you talking about.
The cards are now called the GeForece GTX 280 and GeForce GTX 260, as part of NVIDIA's new naming scheme.
Rumored preliminary benchmarks show that the GTX 280 is close to twice as fast as the 9800 GX2, which makes it about thrice as fast as a single 8800 GTX, which is quite a huge leap.
Oh, and the card supposedly runs Crysis on Very High with AA and AF at 60+ FPS. :D

yes i've heard and seen benchmarks of it all ready it maxed crysis out with average of 62 fps low 49 high 77
Nividia! Stop making these super high end cards! This is actually one of the reasons why PC gaming is not doing so well becuase...
a: people hold off from playing new games and buying new PC's becuase they are playing the fools game of waiting for better cards.
b: developers try to push the limit of these cards for the 5 people that have these so no one buys the game becuase they cant run it on high.
I think Nivida has to go through the ATI route and release like one card and stagnate graphical development so everyone can actually play these games.

Er, graphics cards have been very affordable for the last 9 months or so. 8800 GT, 8800 GTS, 9600 GT, HD 3850, HD 3870--all affordable graphics cards.

same it pushes over 2 GFLOPS? Yeah that card it untouchable...
You mean 2 teraflops.

First of all, since when is pc gaming not doing so well? People don't buy new pc's, they upgrade....once in a while whenever you want. NOW is the BEST time to upgrade. Nvidia go the ATI route?...there are plenty of cards right now to run ANY game you want for a decent price. Have you seen Nvidia's 9600 line of cards? Even 8800GT's are going down in price every day.

[QUOTE="Ilived"]Those new graphics cards are totally worthless...only ONE game needs it.Nolan16
worthless how so the leap is going to be temdendous you mean worthless as in no game will require that power?
Yeah. I don't think it's worth it to make such a leap if it isn't needed.

they are starting to future proof graphic cards in a way it's good but for the first time games arent ahead of the graphics cards it's starting to turn into the oppiste as soon as these cards are released it will be the oppiste.

PC games=FPS, RTS and MMORPG's rinse and repeat, yup PC gaming is not filled with rehashing of the same genre over and over .
is this the pinnacle? the point where pushing graphical performance becomes impractical in developement terms?
good. that means prices will drop, and devs will be forced to design better gameplay. if u havnt seen my crappy specs that i flag around with in everyone of my posts, im in dire need of an upgrade. im just waiting, waiting for the right time. 2-5month maybe? PC gaming isnt expensive you can get around with a 700$ system (including monitor) i've been doing it for about a year. but these new cards, you probably wont have to upgrade for years due to raw power. even fanboys have to shout, "baby got back".
now that gpu's are out of the way, we just need to focus on faster CPU's.

Besides missing out on dozens of genres there (simulators, strategy, adventure, racing, RPGs) that the PC has great holdings in, you've ignored the shape of libraries this year.
Let's take a look at some of the biggest exclusives titles from and coming for PC vs. consoles recently:
PC:
Overall a good mix of old and new.
Consoles
In fact, if it weren't for Little Big Planet and No More Heroes, I'd be tempted to say consoles were completely adverse to the idea of good new IPs.
The final proof is in the pudding of course, the PC has more exclusive highly rated games. Rehashes don't often rate well.
I care more about the games. Personally the visuals now are fine.
Stalker, Witcher, and ofcourse Crysis.
My laptop can only run the thing on medium and i still enjoy it.
Although if enough big games use the more recent technology, i guess ill order those cards instead of the 8800 this summer when i build my own rig.
I really think this card is a waste of money. There is no game in development now that is known to be graphically superior than crysis. Even if it is about crysis, I ran it with my 8800 GTS overclocked at 1280*1024 with very high settings and it ran smooth at about 27 fps.And not any single game is not worth $400.
Unless I just want to make me feel happy because I have THE LATEST card, I see no reason for it. For now, I am happy with my 8800 GTS.
[QUOTE="jg4xchamp"]Dude Ratchet and Clank are on 5Danm_999
Bah your right, I forgot Size Matters was on PS2 as well as PSP.
no i didnt even count that.Ok, now let's wait and see how many years will pass, until we get the first game (bar Crysis) to use even 1/10 of that power
I bet you, xbox720 will be out with 5x that power far before a decent PC game comes up that trully take 100% advantage of those cards
In case you have not noticed Gears 2, Fable 2, Alan Wake, Gothic 4 are all on 360 !!!
There is simply no point in even getting a 7800 GTX imo for now, unless you like Crysis nuch
huraah now we can all run Crysis on 1080p, very high 8XAA and 16XAF.skrat_01
Thats what im waiting for, 1920x1200 at 60fps, with 8xAA and 16XAF on highest settings.
Oh and just an FYI the new Geforce GTX 280 is gonna slap the HD4870 silly and perhaps even the HD4870x2.MadExponent
Also the HD4870 and x2 were designed to beat the 9800GTX and 9800GX2's. The competitor to the GTX 280 is going to be the R700 based card not the RV770.

We've been with the 8x family since 2006. It's 2008, that's ancient for enthusiasts. 7x series? What is this, the PS3/360? PC gamers move on in technology.
The 8x series have been rehased to DEATH and new technology is always a good thing. I hope it never ends cos we'll always be in the same place, never moving forward.
