"That first hand experience was your fault, something you did or didnt do. How do you explain SLI giving, two 8800GT's performing as good as a GTX 260? or the GTX 460's in SLI being able to smoke a GTX 480"

The only fault I had was that I used SLI at an early stage when everything sucked, but that shouldn't excuse Nvidia's bs they released all over the net. It may be ok now, but I highly doubt that. Look at the second vid I posted, the guy is using 4 GTX480s and the improvement is shockingly minimal.

[QUOTE="kobraka1"]there is hardly a difference.Velocitas8

You're telling me you can't see a huge difference between this

and this?

And yes, the ONLY THING that was changed is rendered resolution. All other detail settings are EXACTLY THE SAME in both shots.

To be fair, apart from a higher resolution, there's nothing different between top and bottom. It's not like there's something important in the high-res bottom pic that I may miss in the low-res top pic. Resolution is nice, but unless it's a matter of missing a detail (and that's the main reason MP games prefer high-res--to pick out the opposition sooner) it's not critical.

On the other hands, PCs can do games of much larger scale than consoles, and that actually affects gameplay.

Quite a few people had trouble with SLI and Metro 2033 (2 performing the same as 1 due to random GPU usage), and apparently there was apparent microstuttering. This can often have more to do with the actual software or drivers. Personally I had trouble loading maps in BC2 as they would take twice as long as my brother (he has nvidia) and it was fixed in a driver update.

Software in general doesnt suck, but yes an inherently open platform will have compatability issues. It's a major advantage of a closed-system console.

Either way, all have advantages and disadvantages both to end-users and devs. I spent $1800CAD on mine and have had little to no issues. Oft time it can be user error over software incompatability. Too many variables to predict.

At least software can be fixed most of the time. It's much preferred to have a software than a hardware issue.

Why does that bother you though? If someone wants to spend $234.987 for 1/2 fps increase why does that bother you? It is their money to spend isn't it?

Like i said, i will be a PC gamer no matter what the cost, it gives me the best gaming experience so i will pay it. Honestly cant see why that bothers some console gamers lol. Do you shout at people who drive really expensive cars when they pass you?

HuusAsking

Agreed. Hardware issues are often annoying due to limited options if one fails. Either repair it or buy a new one.

Software is often updated for compatability.

lol, you have no idea what your talking about and the fact you keep bashing about things you have no idea about. As I own two 8800GT's in sli and the difference between non sli and sli theres a huge difference in performance even with games that dont support SLI. Why? because you can create SLI profiles youeself and the fact that nvidia and the other companies like Evga are always updating the profiles. Do you even understand how SLI works?

mattuk69

SLI does very little to improve a game's performance. I had to 8800GTX's a long time ago, I ended up returning the other one because the improvement was virtually not there. I tried everything and Crysis still ran exactly the same way it did when I was using ONE card. You guys don't need to spew your propaganda at me, it won't work since I've had first hand experience.

You have first hand experience at fail! Crysis didn't have Sli support before so that's why it didn't work fool. And who the hell gets Sli for 1 game!? You returned your graphics card because your a complete dumb***! Simple as that...

Because on my SLI system it gained around a 20 fps average boost with Crysis at 1680x1050.

I think ethier you pulling a lie out of thin air or you did something wrong. Ethier, not enough power, forgetting sli bridge, forgetting to hook up the power to the 2nd card, or just didnt enable SLI to begin with. And it could have been a bad card too. did you even check?

A PC graphics argument started by a consolite?

This is unheard of! It's ALWAYS PC elitists posting Crysis shots in all the threads about consoles that start these arguments. That's why I hate them so much. They always butt into conversations they shouldn't be in.

You're soiling the good name of all those sensible consolites that have grand quarrels with their fellow gamers, but all in jolly good fun. Don't stoop to the level of ignorant PC elitists.

pc graphics are not overrated, they are brilliant. I do feel that the pc is not a whole generation ahead of consoles in terms of graphics though, give it a couple of years and it will be.

As a PC/console gamer myself, these exaggerated statements annoy me a bit as well.

PC games, even the rare big-budget exclusives, are not a generation ahead. They are not.

And consoles next-generation will not look like current PC games do. They will look better. If history is any indication, consoles will have no problem exceeding today's mid-range gaming PCs next-gen, just as the 360 far exceeded every mid-range gaming PC on the market at the time of release.

I think most people don't really have a clue about graphics, even those who think they do.

Graphics aren't only advanced effects and realistic graphics. Art direction/stlye and variation and uniqeness matter too.

And yes, I agree that PC gamers are exaggerating when they say they have "next gen" graphics already.

Everyone has a different view about what are "next gen" graphics and I think PC games still don't looks like cut scenes (what I expect from "next gen" graphics personally).

However, the PC is far stronger than consoles are. That's a fact.

Heck, even todays sub $100 gpu's are multiple times faster/better then the PS3.

Lol how the hell does any of that mean that devs actually have the time and money to make a game that would fully utilize your precious gpu? Get real, do you wanna know how much of a failure SLI was for games? You guys should be known as the real sheep to be honest because you will go out and buy any of the useless expensive stuff that will give you the tiniest improvement or make it worse/unchanged due to the fact of compatibility issues and games not utilizing or are optimized properly for your hardware. It's endless...it's ridiculous.

oh yeah, you're right... of course this GTX 460 was only a MINOR improvement from my 2006 graphics card *rolls eyes...

and you're right again... Mass Effect 2, Crysis, and StarCraft 2 don't look drop dead goregous on my gaming PC... and could easily be done on consoles... lol..

A real time rendering of such video would need much more powerful machines, maybe we'll be able to see such graphics in 10 years...and I say maybe.

PC- High resolutions Crisp, clean textures Unlimited frame rates Ability to max anti aliasing and anistrophic filtering In DIRECT comparison, consoles usually have: Low resolutions Muddy textures Limited frame rates, frame skipping, slowdowns Fixed or even lack of AA or AF Reduced geometry Console's will never be at the level PCs are at. They may catch up momentarily, but PC always has the edge when it comes to graphics.

There is only two possible outcomes for the next generation of consoles, ethier they invest with "high ended hardware" or just used existing mid ranged Pc tech. The way the economy is and how the shift to casual and motion control games, Kinda shows us what they plan on doing. They will be creating a low cost console that will use at best mid ranged Pc hardware performance items (in the time of devlopment and release) which is still multiple times better then the current consoles. For them to create a high ended console it would have to use highended parts that produces more heat and use more power, which mean the need for better cooling. And the cost of the new consoles using that high ended techwould be above the release price of the PS3. they wont create another generation of consoles that they sell at a lost MS & Sony learned their lesson. A $400-$500 console might be the aim for them to be able to sell a new console a able to make money on the console itself.

my GTX 460, which is far from the best out today, blows the PS3 graphics away

Heck, even todays sub $100 gpu's are multiple times faster/better then the PS3.

Matter of fact a sub $100 GPU is more powerful than all the CONSOLES combined in history, including Xbox 360/PS3.

Lets compare the best of what the consoles have to a lower poly Crysis NPC

mattuk69

That UC pic is not in-game.

So it looks worse in-game?

Yes, it does, it has less detail.

That UC vs Crysis comparison is yet another example of lame pic pasting. Uncharted 2 may not look as sharp and detailed as Crysis does, but it arguably has better art direction and level variation.

Arguably Pong has better art direction than Crysis.

Except Maxwell (2013) is supposed to be 16x more power efficient than Fermi is in terms of performance-per-watt. [link] Plus iSuppli estimated that Xenos, a GPU which easily rivaled even the best consumer GPUs in 2005, cost Microsoft a measly $141 at launch. [link]

Recently I got a gaming PC. It has since been tough to play games on the consoles. Being able to run everything at such a high resolution with 60fps is just wonderful.

How's it overrated? That's like saying Lamborghini's are overrated when compared to mini vans in terms of speed.

@drspuds

You sir have officially surpassed me as a troll.

Nobody says the things he has said without a smile on their face.

Clue #1: talking about $10k PCs ... there have been what, 2 people in history to build something like that?

Clue #2: statements like: PCs are overrated

Clue #3: nobody is that dumb, it must be trolling

The best character model on consoles is Kratos at a modest 20k.

Edit: 22k

The problem with arguing with PC gamers is that they refuse to believe that there is ANYTHING negative because they spent buttloads to get 1-2 fps advantage. They will ALSO read up on information that is given by some sites even though they never had first hand experience. Some guy here brainwashed to believe that SLI has absolutely no fault and thinks EVERYTHING will work exactly the way it's supposed. He doesn't mention anything about hardware compatibility issues or software issues. SLI didn't work for me in Crysis and I was going nuts reading whatever info I can get to make it work in support sites. The internet is almost completely filled with sites and forums dedicated to give help to people experiencing issues even if it's something really minor the person has done, the game won't work properly the way it's advertised to work with your hardware unless if you change this, update that, download this, upgrade that. If it's your GPU that is full capable then suddenly it's your cpu bottlenecking all of sudden even though the system requirements in the game says you should be fully capable of playing the game without a problem.
