The above statement is not a hypothesis but a fact. Modern PC hardware can be as powerful as you want it to be. You can get four 12-core CPUs with gigabytes upon gigabytes of super fast RAM and four beefy DX11 graphics cards and you could make it even better with a custom design. That's the kind of power not even the next-gen consoles will have. Of course no games utilize all that power but PC hardware is leagues above console hardware.
I think it's time for console gamers to realize that consoles will never match (let alone top) the best PCs in power and rather stop looking for extreme power on consoles (which wasn't really ever there to be honest). The difference is much like between a top end arcade machine from the late 80s or early 90s compared to consoles of the time.
Consoles should rather focus on unique gaming experiences and good exclusive games and a low price. That's why you get a console in the first place.
