I've only read the opening post, yet I'm going to summarize this thread:

PC will have more votes. PC voters will be very vocal about their opinion, and will be acting all indignant over the fact that some people even could prefer consoles over the PC. Some people will point out the obvious fact that this threas has been done before once or twice.. or more.

Does it make PC gamers bad people to state the obvious, which is PC is better at everything :P. I love my consoles for the exclusives though. My favorite games this gen are on PS3, with a few on Wii and PC.

[QUOTE="TehOverkill"]

Can't deny that the benefit/cost ratio is a heavy argument when I'm convincing people that the price of a PC doesn't justify its benefits.

Game to game - Subjective. Consoles have exclusives, as does the PC, so there's no definite way to judge.

System to system - regarding what? Raw Power? Yes. The PC has more raw power. Good for him.

Controls to controls - Subjective. I personally prefer the 360 Pad or the Wii Remote, but you, for instance, seemingly prefer a keyboard mouse combo.

Hence, the lack of an objective argument. The only thing you have there is that the PC has more raw power, inherent from its higher cost. Doesn't mean it'll always use this to its fullest, although it does, from time to time.

TehOverkill

OK folks, going to have to get into the nitty gritty:

A mouse has an almost 1:1 movement - cursor relationship, a controller doesn't - that makes mouse better at "controlling" objectively

Game to game - BC2 PC vs BC2 console; PC is clearly better

System to System - PC does everything, consoles can play games in low resolution; PC is clearly better

If you aren't arguing those points then OBJECTIVELY PC is better. SUBJECTIVELY you may like the controller for comfort for example, but its still worse at "controlling".

Finances are SUBJECTIVE, a millionare doesn't see $1000 the same way someone on welfare sees it, hence that should be scrapped as an argument; it is inherently subjective.

So you see, PC is objectively a better gaming machine.

Read the post. I'm going to disregard it, though, since all you did is copy what you already said and what I already replied. If you think that a sniper being able to do a full 360 turn in 0.2s is "better", your definition of the word is incorrect.

In any case, what I want to ask is: do you think console games look bad? Take, for instance, Uncharted 2, Mass Effect 2 and Gears of War 2: do you think they look bad, performing on consoles?

No they look great. I own UC2.

That said, UC2 is far from technically impressive. It's a corridor shooter with skyboxes/DoF trickery.

To your sniper analogy: yes that is better, you know auto-aim is on for console shooter right? Is that not a red flag?

so you are saying that console gamers cant be bothered to click "vote" but pc gamers can? yeah nice one. the fact is that even some console gamers vote for pc gaming because they do know that it provides a better gaming experience.

I'd play console games first and foremost. I playing only certain PC exclusives. Maybe 2 titles a year.

Before this generation I may have said consoles for simplicity and price but now that consoles are going down the tubes, I'll have to go with PC.

After playing with all 3 consoles this generation, I've decided that I'm just going to stick to PC next generation. If we're going to have to deal with all of the annoying aspects of pc games on consoles, why should we bother with consoles anymore. It just doesn't seem worth it.

At least a broken pc game will get fixed by modders if the devs can't be bothered (fallout new vegas) plus the modders will often make free dlc for everyone.

It's the same argument met with the same answers though. You may prefer your private jet but some don't like flying, we prefer to drive.

Maybe ... but you are in "PC or consoles", if you don't want to participate in this re-hashed argument just ignore it. (or at the very least try and troll us with some preposterous "console is better" assertion) :D

And back on topic: who wouldn't prefer a private jet to a car? Maybe there is that small % of the population who would opt for car, but objectively speaking the plane is better and therefore logically choosing the plane is the *only* option to a discerning consumer.

The airplane is inconvenient for the daily needs of the regular person. It's expensive, draws too much fuel, occupies a large space, requires dozens of hours to learn how to manage and is inconvenient when you need simple things. It is an overkill, and even its borderless roads and fast speeds don't justify the hassle and cost that comes with using one.

Perfect PC analogy.

Agreed for sure. PC gaming is only for hardcore gamers pretty much.

Consoles make things easy, its a good daily driver for a casual gamer, a PC would be nothing but a hassle.

That is a different discussion, the OP brings up quality of the experience game to game. DA:O on PC vs DA:O console rather than discussing where casual gamers should be playing. Perfect example: I bought my Grandma a Wii, she loves it - give her a PC and she wouldn't even turn it on.

Fair enough, dumbed down games would cease to exist.

But your forgetting that would mean MS,Sony,Nintendo would also cease to exist along with the Investors who pull all the capital that circulate to the developers who use them for high budget games.

So in other words, developers would trim down in size and etc etc etc

That is a fundamental misunderstanding of economics. Opportunity cost would dictate allocating those previous resources elsewhere. Just because M$ isn't making games doesn't mean investors won't target a market for profit.

If anything development would get more expensive, because PC games cost more to make; they aren't just re-hashed iterations every 6 months. More MMOs, more depth, better graphics, larger worlds, bigger multiplayer ... everything would be better without consoles.

I like your thinking. Obviously there would still be investors around but believe me,it aint gona be as much as it is now. Not to mention the issue of PC piracy would scare alot of them off. Once investors are less, developing studios would become less because the rest would be outa business in no time. Only a selected few would remain

Why would investment be less? Demand would stay the same.

Wait, what?

I give you Nintendo would cease to exist if no one bought consoles, but Sony and MS?

How out of touch are you? Have you seen the size of the PROFIT by division on sony and Microsoft? The consoles are TINY comparitively to their other departments.

Thats an assumption that demand would stay the same, most people have PCs dont mean they would want to venture into upgrading to play video games. Economics are like water, where there is a hole it fills it: cheap pre-built gaming PCs would become huge, others would adapt and upgrade, others would move to handheld gaming.

Experience = Consoles since it has support and generally a very equal gameimg experience no one having a $3000 rig plus a controller helps as well as it's generally a pick up and play thing unlike PC. Value for money = PC obviously the better graphics and sometimes better controls which mostly count at FPS games as racing on a keyboard is just plain rubbish, most things like support and patches come very quickly and free, games are cheaper so better value for money on PC.

I just last night platinum'd Dragon Age : Origins last night.

I say Platinum, ergo, i played it on PS3. and i got platinum, means i played through it on 2 and half playthroughs. It is a long game as well. Which would lend one to think i REALLY REALLY liked it.

I prefer consoles primarily because i feel you get the most bang for your buck for an excellent gaming experience. A great PC rig may still outperform the console games, but that's just it. There are not that many devs out there who would be willing to try to reach - right now - PC limits, and hope to make a profit. If only to make some money while spending an exhorbant amount, to an audience taht will not be able to get the full use out of it.

It's a coin flip in the end. and i'm speaking wholly within gaming needs and wants, not all the other accessories like playing videos, chat, text etc.

a console is a one size fits all, static by it's very nature, but very simple with minimum worries about compatiblity or putting up with poor performance.

a PC you can generally push harder because the margin of audience who could play your game steadily increases year by year - tech wise. but then you have to worry about upkeeping costs after every 2-3 years. and to do it you gotta learn how to work with computers.

Personally prefer consoles then i do prefer PC.

P.S. and by 'learn how to work with computers' i dont mean pop in disc, install and play. I mean REALLY know how it all works and goes together. So you know what your doing, you can only lean on others for help for so long.

I dont think it was even $3000 when gaming pc's were usually super expensive 10 years ago....

You meant to say $700-1200, or a $300 upgrade.

Thank you sir, you as well.

I'm thinking more like those mini-PCs, Shuttle etc., its about the size of a 360 running Windows 7 with whatever video card you want.

Consoles are basically cheap PCs, but they are locked down, and you are forced to use a controller for most games. A PC frees you from those restrictions.

Economics are like water, where there is a hole it fills it: cheap pre-built gaming PCs would become huge, others would adapt and upgrade, others would move to handheld gaming.

Are you not describing a console ?

Off topic, you sure are a good debater and i respect you for that:P

But then if those type of cheap PCs are made for gamers who dont want to be bothered with the hardcore worries wouldnt we be back at this same arguement again of how 'Cheap PCs' is holding gaming back ?

Well, I get a similar experience from all the genres on consoles given I can hook up an arcade stick, controller, steering wheel, etc whenever I feel keyboard/mouse doesn't feel good.

I then get the benefit of having keyboard/mouse for those genres such as FPS which are oh so much better with them.

I get the benefits of mods, and great long lasting communities that increase the content, and variety of many of my games.

And I get to play all my games at a higher framerate, and resolution than on consoles

So the answer is obvious. Where's Crysis when I need it?

That is a fundamental misunderstanding of economics. Opportunity cost would dictate allocating those previous resources elsewhere. Just because M$ isn't making games doesn't mean investors won't target a market for profit.

haberman13

I like your thinking. Obviously there would still be investors around but believe me,it aint gona be as much as it is now. Not to mention the issue of PC piracy would scare alot of them off. Once investors are less, developing studios would become less because the rest would be outa business in no time. Only a selected few would remain

If consoles just ceased to exist, console gamers would start buying PCs ... ultimately nothing would change, other than taste.

Why would investment be less? Demand would stay the same.

Why would taste change? Be specific.

Wow. I'm gone for a few hours, and it seems I actually made a thread worth debating in. Makes me lol. Also, FYI, I have DA2, C2, and DNF pre-ordered. All on PC.

I rather PC gaming. Other folks rather console gaming. Personally its the community and development on the PC which has been the biggest drawcard. People can make things, and be creative, then distribute it - the culture of computer gaming is embedded in it and community. Consoles are very different in this regard.

TehOverkill

Except in your stupid analogy you forgot to account that almost everyone uses a computer in their day to day activities.
