What would be even better is more cache on each cpu. People forget, there's a 50ns delay on main memory, and data sets are still processed in cache sizes of 256kb!

Hopefully I'll be picking up a 980x in 3 years or so when they're fairly cheap.

The board itself would probably "last" well beyond that in terms of durability.. but 3 years is eons in PC hardware time. LGA 1366 has been out, what? 2 years? You really don't think you'll want a full system overhaul 3 years from now?

Not unless I need to. I picked my mobo with the intent to oc the snot out of all my components once they fell behind the times. A 6 core i7 oc'd should be adequate to run new stuff 3-4 years from now, and the mobo itself has all the bells and whistles, so it should at least compete with good budget boards in the future.

I squeeze all I can out of a system when I build it. My last one lasted about 7 years.

I guess we have different philosophies. I tend to do incremental upgrades to stay current enough so that I can max out most games all the time.

hexa-core cpu are now making gaming experience much better. For me, AMD's cpu are much cheaper than intel, so as i'm a budget user, i'm planning to build this rig on future.

Why do I need to run CIV 5 50% faster? It's a turn based strategy game FFS. Until there's a new Crysis moment the answer is I don't need a new CPU. My quad core is still crushing what I throw at it.

Its nice if you wanna pay the money I guess.

There's absolutely no need for it though. I expect next-gen consoles to utilize 4-core CPUs so there's really no need to spend to much money when it wont go to true use.

:? its only $200 for a 1055T, also the Cryengine 3 for example, can use up to 8 cores. Next year Bulldozer comes outwith an 8 core version and from what I heard there is also a 12 core version. I could only hope by the time new consoles come out that they have at least a 6 or 8 core cpu.

even for the price i wouldn't go for AMD, all the benchmarks ive seen have i5 and i7's out performing AMDs lateset chips. They are comparing a hexacore to last years models!!! that is severe asscock people. for 300 dollars i could easily get an i5 or i7 that out performs an AMD hexacore. asscock people, asscock.

AiurProtoss

Yah then you need a 300USD mother board to go with the i7.

I can pick up a decent AMD AM3 motherboard for only around 120.

The difference in frame rate in most games is not much when comparing a phenom II 965 to an i5.

I want those TRUE next gen cores (the ones in the double digits!) that Mark Rhein was talking about last year so I can run Unreal Engine 4. That'd be nice.

just like in 2005 right, when dual cores came out, and there is absolutely no need for that right? thats the reason that many people had so much issues with vista (2007) they had SLOW single core cpus....

I don't see a point to 6 core gaming, it doesn't seem like anyone is really trying to push PC's like they used to, probably because the PC industry seem's to be moving more laptop/mobile focused and you just don't get that kind of hardware in laptops.

Going form a dual core to a quad core can make a lot of difference.

Especially if you record gameplay footage.

theres no need for it because what your doing on an 8 core machine, can be done on a video card now, I don't think consoles will benefit from an 8 core machine like PC games will with excessively more background programs, and there will be much much more benefit from having a more advanced GPU in the system.

you do realize that dx9 is just an API and given a console like nature that grants you full access to micoprograms built into the GPU itself you don't have to use such API's

the difference's between arent as big when moving to next direct x api these days. dev's taking less advantage of new direct api these days.

direct x 11 add's tessellation to aliens and better shadows for alien vs predator 3 they could of tesellated the whole goddamn levels, instead they barly used it any only on models. that's proof they arent really taking advantage of stuff.

[QUOTE="dukenukemownsu"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-uavLefzDuQ&feature=related DirectX 11 and Tessellation - Enabled vs. Disabled this is proof tessellation isnt being used enough.

Metro 2033 with DX11 already cripples all but the most powerful setups. Current cards really don have the raw computing power to make a game that uses DX11 to its fullest, give it a year or two when the average card has enough power to actually play games with heavy dx11 tessellation and stuff.
