PC vs Consoles (graphics)

Hi guys. I'm sure this topic has surfaced before but I just wanted to get an idea of how people felt about PC vs Consoles. Recently, I got back into PC gaming, while still keeping up with my console games. I have the 360 and PS3 as well, and I have no plans to sell them anytime soon.

Well, I was just comparing the PC version of Gears of War with the 360 version and the PC version clearly blows it out of the water. PC graphics are obviously better because of the horsepower it has. I'm not trying to start a war or be bias but seriously, if you are a PC/console gamer, you'll know what I mean. After playing Gears of War PC, my eye has become so trained and fixated on the PC version that I absolutely cannot look at the 360 version the same again. Unless games are Xbox 360 exclusive, I would have no choice but to buy it on the PC because graphics are far more superior on the PC. With Windows Live on the PC being free, there's really no question which would be my choice.

I hate to think that my 360 is now obsolete to me. Being a graphics junkie, graphics are extremely important to me. If I can get better graphics elsewhere, I will go there. That said, the PC clearly wins by a landslide. Everything is crisp, more textures, better everything. But what stands out the most is the crisp-ness. It's so CLEAN. No jaggies, nothing.

Like I said, I'm not trying to start a riot or flame war. I'm just stating the facts, that PC has better graphics. And for a graphics junkie like me, it would be the better choice overall. I've been console gaming since the NES days, and I even had a chance to game on an old Atari when I was just a kid. If a game is multi-platform on the PC, I'm going to get it, and that's that. Before building my own PC, I didnt think there was much of a difference graphics-wise, but I was wrong. It's like comparing apples to oranges, or Michael Phelps to an amateur swimmer at the YMCA.

Sure, I'll still keep my 360 and PS3 for all the exclusives and I'll still enjoy the consoles. I guess, a couple of years ago, this thread wouldn't have mattered. There are so many PC multi-platform games, and time exclusives being pushed out now that makes PC the obvious choice for those that have a good gaming PC.

Please share your thoughts.

Yep, anyone who says resolution etc. don't matter is talking out of their ass. You only really realize the diff once you play on maxed settings and then try to go back.

But it's not the main point of PC gaming for me, in the end I don't really care whether I'm playing on medium or maxed out settings, not enough to spend a lot of cash on it anyway.

Of course, PC will always end up having better graphics than consoles isn't that a no brainer?! For this gen however, we saw the 360 being the graphics king with Gears of War for almost a year which has never happened before. Buying a console at release is pretty much like buying a highend graphics card for a PC. Awesome at the time but now its just outdated. But it does give the opportunity for poeple (like me) who cant afford to spend hundreds on buying and uprgrading a PC every couple of years the chance to play all the top games aswell as some amazing exclusives. And its not like their unplayable. I can't justify spending hundreds of extra pounds just to see sharper textures and less jaggies when the game is the same. I mean you can pick up an xbox 360 now for $199!

Seems to me It would stick out like a sore thumb? I must be getting old as I just dont see PC being that much ahead in graphic and it sure isnt in gameplay.

This really depends on the PC - they wouldn't look better on my PC.

Crysis is most certainly NOT awesome. Besides graphics it is an AWFUL FPS

Again with the consolites... Because fanboys easiest weapon to use is the visible weapon. And you know WITHOUT a doubt, PC users boast about graphics more than console owners.

On another note, 'console allow mods'? LoL Wut? I dont think you even understand the statement you made, to even get into the basics of modification, scaling and system hardware. IF you hadent realised even UT3 on the PS3 cant runmany modifications. Besides where are they made in the first place? Bump me when I can run Unreal Ed on my 360 or PS3.

I mean, when there is the ability to open up consoles to mods.... i.e. make em on a computer, transfer em to a console.... pretty simple concept.

Another reason PC is dying, piracy. Why do you think all the PC publishers are lsoing interest? Spore was pirated BEFORE IT WAS EVEN RELEASED! Its killing the PC game industry.

Apparently this consolite in question does, you kind of agree with me here.

Your opinion is your own i guess, a lot of people said the game was AAA and i'll take that as a grounds to back up my claim of awesomeness.

The guy before said he doesn't care about graphics, you do, i do, we all do really because its more than just resolution and AA as you said its about style too. The guy i quoted generalized good graphics as "something for the pc not consoles" which is insane.

And the only reason i bring up mods by the way. Is because thats all PC gamers have left to cling to. (aside from graphics) Good games dont come out excusively for the PC anymore. The best pc games are all console ports, or over 5 years old.

ya the graphics on pc is better than consoles. I wanted a gaming computer that can play any game on the highest setting so i went out and got one for $1200 my graphics card alone pwns faces lol. Nvidia gtx 260 896mb ddr3.

can anyone play crysis on the very high settings with no framerate drops? Thats how the game should be experienced and imo i think consoles this gen will not reach that level of graphics

I could show you a list of Gamespot ratings that show one thing: The PC's exclusive count of 10s/9s/8s in combination utterly destroys any console, and still has more than if you combined all the consoles together.

PC arnt too far ahead... consoles are just being built with pre dated hardware and the over priced by manufatures. Like the only console not overpriced now is the ps3... after price drops its worth it for the bluray drive but seriously the Wii has crapier hardware than my windows 95 hardware and the 360 is like a 2004 computer.Helbrec

Spore pirated before it was released?

It was released on the 2nd in Australia. Yes it was eventually pirated a few days later. All new games are, however I wouldent be suprised if Spore surpasses the most pirated games this year... GTA IV on the 360... which was leaked over a week before release *shock horror*.

Does that mean the game will sell badly? Of course not. If its any indication its sold out at many stores here - i'd know ive been searching for it.

PC games left to cling onto mods? What the hell are you talking about? If the AAAE, AAE and AE lits are any indication, PC gamers have alot more than mods to 'cling onto' (on that topic as I said you simply cant 'allow mods on consoles, there are MANY variables).

The vast majority, if not all PC games I play simply dont grace any console......

Besides PC has far more advantages than you would like to think, aside from user made content and 'graphics'. Be it titles and complete genres that are simply not found on consoles, massive amount of choice in prephrials to enhance how you play these titles, it being a completely open system, resulting in far better online, that is generations ahead of what is offered on any other system.

You need to think harder for reasons the system is 'worse'.

And quite frankly if it is I would be playing my 360 and PS3... let alone according to you my PS2 and N64 more often.... :|

Very simple. you get what you pay for. You can spend a couple hundred $'s on a 360. or spend about $1000 and have a way better gaming experience.

But then again you can debate in some ways 360 is more expensive when you have to buy a $1000-$1500 tv to get the full experience.
