PC vs Consoles (graphics)

You can not compare PC graphics with Game Console graphics. Why?

Let's see, you can change the PC graphics card to the most advance graphics card on the market. With a game console you can not change the old graphics card to a NEW graphics card. You also, can't change the RAM or the CPU.

on topic. yes, i do believe PCs are ahead graphically. however, i think that many of the games on PC (PC exclusives, if you will) are definitely a different "niche" than consoles. RTS, MMOs, and sims come to mind. it is an odd comparison many times between the two.

I've got a question and a request for you.

What AA levels were you running this at? (I assume max settings besides AA)

Do you mind rerunning that benchmark again with a renamed DevilMayCry4_DX9.exe? I have heard rumors that nvidia cards have some direct optimizations for DMC4, but they only kick in with that particular exe name (above, or the DX10 exe)

To explain all this, you are getting 70 FPS better than me on the first 2 scenes, 100 fps better on scene 3, but we are almost equal on scene 4.

My CPU says 1.86ghz here, but its actually running at 3.3ghz overclocked, so we should have similar CPU performance (unless you are overclocked as well), and I have a HD 4870 and 4gb DDR2 800

I had thought the 4870 and the GTX 280 would be a little closer than that.

As for mods, well its clear PC has the upper hand here. Not only is the PC an open platform for content most modders work on PCs anyway, so modding for PC games is the natural progression. You'll get jailbreaks etc but its not going to stretch to big mods like garry's mod soley intended to create insane youtube videos (i believe that's the purpose anyway :P)

You realise how incredible it was to score a 10 with a PS3 game? GS is harder on ps3 games than any other console. Hard to deny the greatness that is MGS4.

MGs had a MUCH smaller fanbase, doesnt make it less of a game.

Well I just bought myself a new rig and Crysis is AMAZING Graphically. The problem though is it suffers like many pc games from being poorly optimized. I have 2 ATI 4870's, and it's completely inconsistent in the fps. Like, for example, in some amazing outdoor areas it runs solidly at 35 fps, but in some not so great indoor areas it chugs like a mofo and becomes unplayable.

This is the main advantage consoles have I think in graphics, is that they are fixed. With consoles you only develop with one system in mind, but with pc's devs have to deal with so many different models, that creating really great graphics can leave optimization issues.

Hi guys. I'm sure this topic has surfaced before but I just wanted to get an idea of how people felt about PC vs Consoles. Recently, I got back into PC gaming, while still keeping up with my console games. I have the 360 and PS3 as well, and I have no plans to sell them anytime soon.

Well, I was just comparing the PC version of Gears of War with the 360 version and the PC version clearly blows it out of the water. PC graphics are obviously better because of the horsepower it has. I'm not trying to start a war or be bias but seriously, if you are a PC/console gamer, you'll know what I mean. After playing Gears of War PC, my eye has become so trained and fixated on the PC version that I absolutely cannot look at the 360 version the same again. Unless games are Xbox 360 exclusive, I would have no choice but to buy it on the PC because graphics are far more superior on the PC. With Windows Live on the PC being free, there's really no question which would be my choice.

I hate to think that my 360 is now obsolete to me. Being a graphics junkie, graphics are extremely important to me. If I can get better graphics elsewhere, I will go there. That said, the PC clearly wins by a landslide. Everything is crisp, more textures, better everything. But what stands out the most is the crisp-ness. It's so CLEAN. No jaggies, nothing.

Like I said, I'm not trying to start a riot or flame war. I'm just stating the facts, that PC has better graphics. And for a graphics junkie like me, it would be the better choice overall. I've been console gaming since the NES days, and I even had a chance to game on an old Atari when I was just a kid. If a game is multi-platform on the PC, I'm going to get it, and that's that. Before building my own PC, I didnt think there was much of a difference graphics-wise, but I was wrong. It's like comparing apples to oranges, or Michael Phelps to an amateur swimmer at the YMCA.

Sure, I'll still keep my 360 and PS3 for all the exclusives and I'll still enjoy the consoles. I guess, a couple of years ago, this thread wouldn't have mattered. There are so many PC multi-platform games, and time exclusives being pushed out now that makes PC the obvious choice for those that have a good gaming PC.

Please share your thoughts.

it's called aliasing rough edges on polygons anti aliasing smooths off the rough edges who cares it's been something on pc for a lifetime i have a 8800 GT and i still dont use it ....and what effects graphics the most is how good the lighting/level design/textures are.

So it seems that PC users cant hold up the argument that PC> consoles anymore then right? Cause the comparison has always been PC> console.... NOT PC>360... PC>PS3 its PC>consoles.
