Phil Spencer's take on exclusives and "experience"

Do you agree with Phil Spencer's tweet reply on why someone should buy an Xbone?

I agree that the average gamers don't really care whether a game is also on Pc or not, and it's great that Pc gets to have more games, but at the same time I understand their xbox fanbase not happy about owning a console that has basically no identity.

What do you guys think?

The fanboys from opposing platforms care more than anyone, but it does piss off a very small minority of people who also have capable gaming PC's.

Honestly though, it's the best strategy for gaming, everyone gets taken care of, and it opens up Microsoft to better finances which opens them up to the possibility of more games, Phil is on point.

The positives greatly outweigh the self-entitled negatives.

Phil Spencer speaks of expensive high end rigs but not of the fact that Pc gets free "live" and better deals on games. So I don't know if his statement is actually legit, since consoles give consumer this initial "placenta effect" and slowly biting money away from them overtime.

Because Microsoft owns and operates the online infrastructure and back end network for the consoles, they provide the servers, hosting, constant software updates, feature additions, R&D for things like backward compatibility, Windows 10 streaming etc...

Without a paid service none of that could happen.

PC in the very long run will end up being about the same cost with no Gold/PSN, cheaper games etc, but the entry costs are considerably higher, especially if you want a proper PC experience.

People are more open to cost that is spread over a wide birth rather than up front, that's the biggest inhibitor for PC gaming and something consoles excel at.

I wouldn't say consoles excel at price, $400 ($500 for xbox one at the beginning) for a console is not exactly cheap, considering that I spent around $600 to get myself a decent rig.

Phil is just doing what Nadella tells him to do. Nothing more than a PR spokesman and yes man. Xbox is constantly trying to trick people into buying their crap console. First with Tomb Raider, now with Quantum Break. I fully expect a similar announcement for Gears 4 before launch.

Not if you know where to buy parts. All the games I played so far on Pc perform better than their console counterpart, with the due exception of poor ports a la Batman Arkham Knight.

I think it's ridiculous that xbox fanboys are attacking Phil Spencer over Quantum Break going to PC, it has zero affect on them, whatsoever. They're just mad because they have one less "game" to be smug about. lol

The worst part is if Microsoft came out swinging next generation and absolutely obliterated Sony, these cows would drop Sony like a bad habit. There's no integrity there, no tact, no support of a company or platform they supposedly care for, they just follow success, it's no different than the bandwagoners for the Seattle Seahawks.

Everyone stumbles, makes mistakes, tries things that don't work, you have to be there to guide them back from those failures to make the proper decisions in the future, you can't just abandon something every time it gets rough, that's a recipe for failure. Microsoft needed the community to tell them what is what, not just people buying PlayStation 4's in its stead, but the existing community who stayed faithful to them providing endless feedback.

These cows want to talk about people wanting to be on the winning team, if that were the case we wouldn't own Xbox One's, they have no concept of platform differentiation, a different experience and something geared for different demographics.

They immediately attach themselves to the success and sales mantra because that's the only thing that actually keeps them holding on...

What games has Sony used to try to trick people? Street Fighter 5 was announced for PS4 and PC since day one. Final Fantasy VII Remake was announced as making its debut on PS4 so every one knows it may come to other platforms later. Kojima's next game been announced as PS4/PC from the start. No Man's Sky has been revealed for as releasing on PC the same day a long time ago. Give me an example of Sony fooling people into believing a game is exclusive when it isn't. Every time a new "exclusive" for Xbox is announced the first question should be when is it coming to PC?

Were people(in the US mostly) giving Sony a chance last generation after they screwed up? Quantum Break was the first game ever revealed for xbone and they waited almost 3 years to confirm its multiplat. Are they going to refund PC owners who bought an xbone for exclusives like QB?

The 360 was doing things better so people adopted it, it also had a year head start so a massive community had already been ingrained when the PlayStation 3 arrived. Nobody is saying Microsoft deserves a break, you need to touch up on your literary skills, the problem is the platform whoring and cheer leading for whatever system that generation is doing better. There's nothing wrong with wanting a better experience wherever that may be, but flip flopping your viewpoints and fanboyism from one end of the spectrum to the other and acting like you're so down for this company and console that is currently in the lead is the ultimate joke.

It's pure comedy how cows doesn't mind when Sony releases cross-buy games across the PlayStation platforms, PS4, PS3, Vita and still considers them Sony exclusives. But when Microsoft releases cross-buy games across their platforms, Microsoft Windows and Xbox, they lose their minds screaming Xbox One loses an exclusive. It's hilarious and sad at the same time. I can't wait until PSNow starts to offer PS4 games and you could access them by just having an enabled Sony TV and not need a PS4. It's going to be golden.

Phil is correct, more people get to play the game, I don't see how that's a bad thing. Plus Remedy get more sales on a product they worked their asses off on, win win for everyone.

If they want yes. There's still roughly 19 million people with an xbox one though, that's a lot of potential buyers.

hes absolutely right. pc does not compete with consoles. itd be the same situation if sony started releasing ps4 exclusives on PC. itd be great for pc gamers but it has absolutely zero effect on ps4 v xbone. its hardly costing MS any xbone sales, and it would hardly cost sony ps4 sales. i bet uncharted 4 would actually sell very well if sony released it on pc. certainly far better than almost all of these mediocre looking pc exclusives as of late

This is the right way to do it. Anybody who complains about losing exclusives is a dumb fanboy. As long as it is on your platform of choice, what does it matter? Play it and enjoy it. I have XB1, PS4 and a PC and I couldn't be happier that a lot of the so called XB1 exclusives are coming to PC. PC is my platform of choice. I just wish Sony and Nintendo would do the same thing and we could play all games on PC and not have to buy consoles just for exclusives. These consoles are under-powered and can not run games properly. It is nice to be able to play these games properly at high frame rates, resolutions and graphics settings on PC.

This does not make the XB1 obsolete. It is still an affordable and simple solution for people who are happy with the basic experience. If you care about quality, you now have the option to play these games on PC. Choice and catering to different gamers is a good thing.

@NathanDrakeSwag: Or they want there console to live and think lack of pure exclusives will in the long run bring productivity for their fav brand. Having a fav console and worrying its appeal and longevity does not disqualify them as real gamers.
