Phil Spencer's take on exclusives and "experience"

Because PS4 is actually a good system. X1 is a homeless man's PC. It runs on Windows, will soon have no true exclusives left, gets the worst version of every multiplat, forces you to pay for XBL to get the full experience when M$ doesn't make PC users who use their OS or buy Windows games pay for it. It is becoming as worthless as a Vita.

M$ was anything but loyal to soldiers during the X1 reveal. Mattrick and co was very disrespectful to them when answering questions about the DRM. The only reason they backpedaled was because preorder sales were low not because they actually cared about you.

Did those things come to pass? Should I be charged with attempted murder for SAYING "I wanna f*cking kill that guy"?

Man, you talk like you have some kind of super power with knowing why they backpedaled as if you were in the room when the decision was made, and how they don't care for deployed soldiers as if you are a soldier.

Do you/did you serve? If not, don't even go there. On FOB Kalsu in Iraq, the rec room was outfitted free of charge by MS because they are an American company and the soldiers are American soldiers.

Did you miss Don Mattrick's interviews after the reveal? He didn't give two shits about soldiers not being able to play X1 and said something along the lines of "it must be tough getting an internet connection on a sub". M$ stood by their original plans until after preorders were made available and they were able to gauge how many consumers were willing to go along with their policies.

It doesn't matter that they didn't follow through with it because the only reason they didn't is because consumers rejected it. If preorder numbers were amazing they wouldn't have changed a thing. You can't force something if no one is willing to accept it.

I'm not talking about how they treated soldiers during the 360 era but their attitude during the X1 reveal was completely different. And a lot of the people who fully supported those anti-consumer and anti-soldier policies are still there like Spencer, Mehdi, Greenberg.

Isn't allowed by ALL fanboys. Cows, Sheep & Hermit fanboys all feel that way. Unless of course, M$ was supporting their platform of choice. Not like Microsoft said they were going to start supporting PC with more games or anything like that, right? lol!!

Again, did any of those things come to pass? DRM, always online, those reveal and E3 2013 bad policies. Did the console hit the market in November of 2013 with those things in place? So you feel its a logically mature thing to do to hold a grudge over what a person, or company said but never actually did? I like rumble in my controllers. I guess I shouldn't like Sony because they said "Rumble is so last gen" after the PS3 launched without it in their controllers. I should just hold a grudge even though they started putting it back into the DS3 later on? That makes a lot sense big guy.

If they are so unsupportive of soldiers why was the rec room at Ft. Sill sent five Xbox ones in 2015? That was my old duty station and MS still upkeeps those rec rooms. There are PC gamers who simply want to play the game. I didn't see $500 in the thread. I saw $600, $600-$800, and $700-$1000. I say split it in the middle for $800. An FX-8350 PC like the one in my sig but with 16Gb RAM, 4 Gb GTX 960, and Win 10 costs $787.

Besides. If I was a console-only gamer, I'd still need a PC or laptop of some sort. Otherwise, I wouldn't be posting here right now. I'd have to add the cost of that too.

Gaming PC = (1) console + non-gaming PC

One of the biggest twitter meltdown I have seen related to gaming. The video of the Xbox fanboys was even more hilarious. The called an "emergency" meeting for their group "therapy" for a simply a game coming to the PC. Pretty pathetic.

@blackace: Apart from some of the most lowliest PC gamers I've seen on these forums, I've never seen PC gamers cry about losing an exclusive.

Cows and Lemmings on the other hand act like exclusives are the most important thing in the world. And losing one to them feels like losing a child.

There are exceptions however, always.

Where did I say Sony supporting projects like NMS is wrong ? In fact I like it very much if a big company supports new IP (Horizon: Zero Dawn, Driveclub, Quantum Break, Scalebound)

Without new IP this industry would be at a standstill.

It seems to me like they are desperately trying to bring back games for windows live, if they somehow get third party devs to release games exclusively for windows 10 and windows store they will at some point force pay for online on people again along with Microsoft exclusive features.

You have to looks a few years down the line, I don't think they like the position Steam and others are in now especially when they are promoting Linux and their own gamepads which directly competes with them, they want to claw back their position as home of third party gaming and they can't do that on one platform alone, especially not when it's nowhere near being the most popular.

Its not even about steam. They want to transform Windows into an applestore/googleplay equivalent with complette control over their users and content. PC gaming is just a small wheel in a giant machine slowly moving forward.

Xbox One is a better, more advanced console. The user gets a new experience, even outside of games. The controller is better, and even higher end control options exist. There's Halo. There's Forza. Like them or not, they are solidly put together. Forza was a launch game. Ps4 is still waiting on its first game.

PS4 is destroying Xbone so bad that MS doesn't even want to compete anymore.

I own a gaming PC and have been gaming on PC for more than 23 years.

I use a PS4 controller for my PC by the way, and before that I used a PS3 and a logitech controller. The good thing about PC is that it's completely open so you're free to use whatever controller you want and it doesn't have to be an Xbox controller.

They come in handy for games in certain genres like Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, for example. The game felt like it was made for a controller.

What's gonna be funny is when they'll show us actual gameplay of QB running on the bone. When that's out, the amount of damage control needed won't be something that a normal lem could handle.

Microsoft treating Xbox One like entry level DirectX Box while Windows 10 PC as high end DirectX Box.

Microsoft sells different Surface tablet models that scales from low end Intel Atom to high end Intel Core i7 ULV.

You can install multiple apps store on Google's Android and it's less strict than Apple's iTunes/iOS.

Exclusives are consoles identity they add appeal, longevity and value to the console brand. Without an identity gamers have nothing to associate the brand with. At this point it may aswell be a souless Steambox. The X1 is nearly zero competition againsts Sony They are giving people more reasons to buy PC not Xbox. Microsoft is starting to favor PC. They don't care much about Xbox other than to make a little extra money.

You don't need exclusives at all, like the game buy it. Don't like it don't buy it. Don't give in to sludge coming out of MS or Sony's mouth about exclusives are good for anything other than themselves.

I disagree. No brand or company can survive without an image. People need something to identify and associate with your brand with. In this case a consoles identity are their exclusives.

Nintendo - family friendly

Playstation - variety

Xbox - shooter

I don't like that Phil Spencer implied you need a 'high end gaming rig' to PC game. It's doing a disservice to PC gaming and is untrue. Especially this gen where you don't need high end hardware to match or exceed consoles and with DX12 making optimizations more efficient than before.

@ronvalencia: Anothing thing to note about Amiga was a lot of games used both mouse and keyboard and joystick at the same time, there were two player games using different control schemes. You just don't get that any more.

I used to love Walker, Rockstar North / Sony should bring that back.

It would be. But they are still good games for the most part. I played Gears 1 on the PC and hopefully Microsoft will bring Gears 4 to the PC if rumors are too. Although I would like Gears 2 and 3 on the PC so I can finish the series. Forza Motorsport 6 seems like a good racing title. Certainly better than some racing titles that we have on the PC. So, that's not a bad game either.

I wouldn't call these games trash. You PS4 fanboys need to get over yourself. Xbox One has great titles and this is coming from someone who is a PC Gamer. If you want to play these games and don't want to spend over $600+ on a descent Gaming PC then Xbox One is the way to go.

I can say from a unbiased perspective especially since I own a PS3 and NOT an Xbox 360 or Xbox One which proves that I am not a fanboy. I really liked Uncharted 2 on my PS3 but that doesn't meant that I can't like certain games that are on Xbox One.

The beauty with these Xbox and Windows games is that you could create one Xbox Live profile and everything is unified. All your stats, Achievements, saves, pictures and video captures, purchases, etc. all falls under your one profile. It's a better experience, an unified experience, a different experience. You can't say the same with the games that's on PS4 and PC. It's basically the PS4 version and then the PC version, no experience at all.

Once PSNow offers PS4 exclusives and it will be playable without a PS4, this will be one of the funniest and funnest times here. #GreatmessAwaits
