Pictures Of The Xbox 360 Motion Sensing Controller Prototype

Even though Microsoft still has not officially confirmed the news that they are currently working with Gyration Inc. on a new motion sensing controller for the Xbox 360 video game console, but from the leaked pictures of the Xbox 360 Gyration controller prototype, I think it is very likely that we will see these Gyration controllers for the Xbox 360 soon.

If you are wondering about the Gyration Inc., it is a wireless motion sensing input devices manufacturer that had helped Nintendo in developing their Wii controllers in the past.

From the pictures, it seems that the Xbox 360 Gyration controller can be used like the Wii's Remote and Nunchuck, a PC mouse or a Playstation 3's Six Axis, which I think is a great idea, because it would offer the flexibility that both Wii and Playstation 3 don't currently have.

Nintendo owes much to it's unique Wii controllers for the successes of the Wii video game console worldwide, and Microsoft is just probably trying to do the same thing with it's next generation console, especially with the worldwide shortages of Nintendo Wii.

I dont think M$ is going to abandon the *Hardcore*. Most of there games are console/pc anyway. If ALL of gaming goes casual or kiddy then its time to worry. Otherwise I dont see why any gamers should care, this could be a good thing I have fun with the wii.

i'm sorry but without the IR pointer I dont see it as really all that significant.

Also, it's a peripheral and microsoft will definitely not be forcing devs to use it so this really will be a minor thing

I saw a patent that looks just like that a while ago. It was very similar at least... I think it was from Nintendo. Maybe it wasn't a patent but an early prototype.

In any case, I've always thought a wireless controller like the two-piece one would be a good idea, just without the motion sensing.

Yup. For some reason people dont get that the IR is just as important (if not more important) than the motion controls.

This was a prototype a company built for Nintendo in 2001. The TC just saw green and assumed it was for the 360. Way to fall for it guys....

As for motion sensing:

Unless I can somehow get true motion sensing, by that I mean the character does EXACTLY what I do, then I don't really want it. Overall the Wiimote is fun, but I would rather the companies rely on improving their tech than keeping costs down. A stupid sixaxis tilt control is okay, but it didn't really add anything for me and it hurts most games. I love the 360 controller as it is, please leave it alone!

you must have hated the mouse. that was motion sensing for the pc after all. and there were plenty of haters that said they could do stuff better on the kb.

Well I guess I'm not a gamer then considering that I own A PS1, PS2, N64, Dreamcast, Xbox 360 and PS3. Also, I don't like the whole motion sensing ideal. Keep that trash on the Wii. They're going to lose the hardcore crowed if that pull a nintendo.

Aah man, you do that and they win. That's what they're trying to do: replace us normal gamers with the casual kiddies. It's like degenerates moving into a good neighborhood and you having to move to someplace more expensive to get away. PCs will be the saving grace for us last gen if this doomsday situation becomes reality.

I agree, but not entirely. Nintendo has been using a new marketing strategy with the DS and Wii. Basically, they use cheaper hardware and add something that is meant to "replace" what is lost with something "revolutionary". The Nintendo of the past is not the Nintendo of today...

What a lot of people were trying to say is that if all the console companies try to use this marketing formula there will be no need for high production value games... Trust me, MS and Sony definately took notice that Nintendo was making a profit off of each console as well as selling more units. If they all take this approach, the only ones who will get hurt is the "hardcore" gamer crowd.

I don't know about you, but I would really like dev teams to continue making games with stunning visuals and be forced to spend millions upon millions in development. It won't always make it a better game, but I think we can all agree that games with more time and effort put in usually end up better than the shovelware we've seen on the Wii lately.

Seriously, just because someone might put out a patent or research something doesn't mean they will do it... Sony was looking into motion sensing during the PS2 era but it doesn't mean they ever made them...
