old news im pretty sure. they are doing the same thing with command and conquer 4 i believe.mtradr43Yeah, it was in GI. This doesn't affect me, but it really must suck for the legit PC consumers.
Id rather have StarForce:?GulliversTravelStarForce messed up my Computer! Had mad BSODs that magically stopped once I removed all remnants of Starforce on my computer :x
no you dont need to be connected to the internet to play most games and as far as i am concerned when a company is trying to harm you with the legit copy its cool to pirate the gameisnt that statement a little contradictory? as i am aware with many steam games you have to be connected to the internet to play them if im not mistaken.
Also in a fact i find it ironic you complain that its killing PC gaming but you yourself by not purchasing the game are inevitably killing it aswell..Isnt it ironic dont you think?
razgriz_101
and they backfire. if only more developers could be like stardocksIn that case piracy is killing PC gaming. As these things exist for the sole reason to stop piracy.

Piracy - Its free, your game works
Buying it, Money, Please type in your limited use install code, plase type in your one time you content card codes, please wait while the game connects to online data base, please maintain a 24/7 connection to online data base to ensure you are a paying customer
For people who wonder why people pirate games.
I guess more people are on dial-up than I thought...otherwise this shouldn't really be a problem. killab2oo5But what if your internet goes down for some reason? Then you can't play the game?
I guess more people are on dial-up than I thought...otherwise this shouldn't really be a problem. killab2oo5some people dont like to have freedoms taken or restrictions imposed, DAMN THEM!
I guess more people are on dial-up than I thought...otherwise this shouldn't really be a problem. killab2oo5I travel a lot and play on my laptop. I'm not always in places where internet is available.
In that case piracy is killing PC gaming. As these things exist for the sole reason to stop piracy.

These exist because of a flawed perception: That pirates can be stopped. All they're really doing is punishing consumers.
I personally have found myself very reluctant to buy certain PC games because of DRM.

My satellite connection is can be quite flaky at times.

LOL so? it's only Activation hardly a a bad thing also nothing wrong with logging into psn to play ( only online game ) it's like saying XBL sucks cus you have to log in in order to play xbox360 games online... again you fail at trollingAs with most things PC, I expect console gamers will stop bashing us for it when it also becomes their problem.

Playing games online and offline isn't same
People will pirate just to avoid this invasive DRM. Smooth move...fools.IgorAntunovNuh uh they can't figure out this one! Lols. Yeah, fools. A piece of DRM that successfully prevents piracy is something I could see publishers reasonably employing and feeling like they're accomplishing something. Unfortunately, to date, there is NO SUCH THING.
i wont buy any game that has DRMs, no publisher or developer will remove my gaming rights or monitor my computers activities.I don't see why anybody wouldn't be connected to the internet anyway
HermitGTX
There has always been piracy, only now for some reason it is really important to stop it with crazy DRM.
Wasdie
Crazy DRM is exactly why I dont play PC games other than an MMO here and there. All my games are on console for this very reason. It sucks that these measures have to be in place though to try to fight piracy.
Though I have to agree. Things like this only punish the legit customers with how intrusive some of the DRM can be.

Ya im sure ubisoft cares what porn sites your surfing, you forgot your tinfoil hat.
Well, can you blame them? Devs obviously seem to think opposite of those that say "The piracy numbers are a lie! They're not that bad!". While DRM does suck, I don't see a constant internet requirement as *that* bad.
killab2oo5
It doesn't make sense to harass the consumer at all with something that is practically guaranteed to fail at its intended purpose. No matter how good you think your copy protection is, sooner or later someone will find a way to circumvent it.
Deserves the awesome planet of the apes image as well.
Piracy is killing PC gaming... No matter how much fanboys whine that it's not but it is.XenogearsMasterSo by ubisofts current move.
Legitimate gamers are killing PC gaming?
Because the only ones who are getting punished for this are people who actually purchase Ubisoft games.
Well thats the worst SystemWars logic I have seen in a long while, guess you can have a gold star for that.
[QUOTE="muscleserge"]Look, here is what you do, buy the game, play with internet on, once the crack comes out, patch it. Problem solved. This is what I did with the original Crysis, I hated popping in the disk every time. This is perfectly legal, as long as you own the game.JangoWuzHereThat is illegal thoe..
Illegal that you broke the copy write yes.. But illegal that they are gonna actually gonna go after you for it.. Heck no, you paid money for it.. I can't stand the games with "limited" install limits.

I use them all the time for my retail games and occasionally i do so out of necessity when the drm makes me unable to launch the game i just bought legally always the legit customer who suffers the pirate get a fully working copy..... hell ubisoft released a patch for one of there pc games which was actually a repackaged no cd crack
Can someone please explain how exactly DRM helps stop piracy? It is cracked within a matter of days every single time. As far as I can tell all this does is punish legit customers and push them more towards piracy so they don't have to put up with the DRM.

how dare i want privacy, yea i must be crazy. well since you dont mind this kind of thing mind posting up your birth certificate if not i think you should start making your own tin hatyoure the kind of guy sony was targeting and why they put rootkits in their music CD's. i dont see why you want to trust information to a corporation, corporations being by design moraly ambiguous, with information that they have no right to and no need of.
DRM is rather ironic. It's supposed to stop piracy but all it does is teach legit customers that they get punished and pirates don't have to deal with these things.
Well Bioshock took 2 weeks to crack and a few Windows Live games took even longer. Can someone please explain how exactly DRM helps stop piracy? I mostly buy games on the 360 anyways since it was clear years ago that the pc was not going to be treated equally when it comes to multiplats.
This is good news. I hate piracy and the people that do it belong in jail.
HermitGTX
I assure you this will not stop the pirates. All it does is treat those that will have purchased the game legitimately as criminals.
lol every game works in offline mode once it has been launched once online. Some games refuse to run offline on Steam. I tried to run HL2 on my TV and it wouldn't run ...

and neither it is morally bad or anythingAfter the Spore DRM debacle, I thought publishers would learn better. Instead, my faith in humanity has dipped down by 2.hiphops_saviorwhat should be causing that dip is the fact that some people support these things and imply that those who dont are crazy

I didn't buy Mass Effect until after they removed the ten day check and the five install limit. I enjoyed the game a lot more and when Mass Effect 2 came out, I bought the PC Collector's edition firsthand. Kind of goes to show what companies get if they learn from their mistakes and reward their customers instead of ticking them off. I never bought MW2 on the PC, due to the hacks and lack of dedicated servers, or will I get Assassin's Creed 2 on the PC because of the stupid DRM. You really disappoint me Ubisoft, I was a fan of Assassin's Creed Director's Cut, and all you did is punish the paying customers instead of acknowledging that piracy will always be an issue and instead of putting up more DRM, follow EA's example and give customers reasons to buy the game new and legally.
