[QUOTE="Ragashahs"]wow i was going to post that just a second ago. this is not good new for MS for being the cheaper console for 2 year PS3 being more expensive and in 08 holidays having the recession work against sony and still not being able to outsell the PS3
http://www.gamezine.co.uk/news/ps3-and-360-sales-equal-in-2008-$1264624.htm
PAL360
really?
So you think that a MS system selling as much as a Sony system is no good news for MS??? Im sure that the fact PS3 is not selling 3 times more than the 360 is really bad news for sony :P
well IMO, the good or bad news depends on perspective. On a head start/price cut/more games perspective + being significantly behind last gen, this can be a threat. Especially since lower price should have pushed it to higher sales than an expensive ps3. But it is still good news to MS that they are holding ground and their numbers were enough to take exclusives away from sony. So it is good and bad news.
As for sony, I think they were hoping to make 2008 more of a success. IMO it was fine but it was not "the return of sony". What matters is that both will be alive and well for years to come so that benefits us the consumers. I don't agree that the news that sony is "not selling 3 times more than 360" is not bad news. MS is not selling like Wii or DS but I don't think fans see that as bad news at all. PS3 started bad, IMO, and I believed in this system...still do. But I will not say they are in the red or green yet. Remember both companies are making mass lay-offs this year.
Worldwide sales...Microsoft kicked sonys *** in the states. It does matter believe it or not. PS3 should be outselling the XBOX 3 to 1 by now if they had any intentions of catching up.
As an AMERICAN console, Microsoft is doing pretty well around the world. Sony already had great sales worldwide with the PS2, the fact that Microsoft is still in the lead in world wide sales says alot. If Microsoft can sell more consoles in Canada and Europe they'll never come close to losing their lead against the PS3.
360 Has sold 28 million, up four million from last update,
Ps3 has sold 21 Million, up five million from last update.
And of course the Wii is up a staggering eleven million with 45 million units sold.
And lastly the Ps2 which only updates once every six months or so sits at 140 million units sold worldwide.

wow those are the real numbers for ps3 and xbox 360? cool! I say yay for all systems, I like em all....except that darn virtua boy :). Fav systems in order: NES (i was a kid then so hey), PS2, PS3/wii/cube/360....those are kinda toss ups. I think PS3 but I don't take sides. I did love my N64 for mario and zelda...zelda was consistently my best experience every gen (Twilight...well I loved it but it is not ocarina).
Something just to factor in:
1: 360 was released early due to it's contract ending with NVidia and the end of the Xbox. Launch and production happened within months of each other which sucked for Microsoft.
2: 360 has a lowered failure rate of 16.4 percent. Generously saying that was the case since 08 it would mean 3 million units which were sold were replaced. The 12 million which had been sold from launch had a 30% failure rate.( Thats generous, some say 35%.)Thats another 3.6 Million units replaced.
3: The Wii and Ps3 has a failure rate of 1%.
Take this into account and you have:
Wii-44.5 Million units sold
Xbox360-21.4 Million units sold
Ps3-21.1 Million Units sold
You can reference this from countless places on the internet, magazines, or pay attention to your daily news.
Looks like 360 outsold the ps3 by a small margin
Guess that price drop really helped, hopefully MS will drop the price again
Wow just WOW!!!! Just for clarification you do understand that SHIPPED =/= SOLD. The denial and flat out refusal to except the facts is astonding. You people just can't seem to grasp the fact shipped consoles DOES NOT EQUAL sold.[QUOTE="BetaRay"]Wow just WOW!!!! Just for clarification you do understand that SHIPPED =/= SOLD. Shipped = Sold. To retailers that is.
You do realize stores have to first buy the consoles from the manufacturers right? :?

So when NPD number and those alike come out are they giving you shipped numbers? NO they're not. They're giving you SOLD to consumers not retailers. When talking about which console sold more we're sure as hell not using SHIPPED.[QUOTE="The_Game21x"][QUOTE="kingtito"] Wow just WOW!!!! So when NPD number and those alike come out are they giving you shipped numbers? NO they're not. They're giving you SOLD to consumers not retailers. When talking about which console sold more we're sure as hell not using SHIPPED.Well tell me, how could the NPD measure how many consoles have been sold to consumers? You do know retailers often order new systems before store shelves are empty to attempt to keep up with consumer demand, right? They don't report that to the NPD, so there's no way to properly measure how many consoles have been sold to end users. That's why every time Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo talk about how many systems they've moved, they always use the word "shipped".
So how has this article "owned" people? I cant be bothered to read back through all 12 pages of this thread, so was the original article false or something??? Or is it valid and the PS3 and 360 had equal sales for 2008?carljohnson3456If anything the ones owned were cows..copied from earlier:
Unbelievable, if one excuse doesn't work just move on to the next right? What was the general damage control after the last couple of NPD results by cows? That's just US numbers, worldwide is more important!" ..now you're backing out of that too?
And you mention the $199 price Ok. Lets see, the $199 tag was for a whole 3 and a half months, wow. So you're saying those 3.5 months the 360 was at $199 negated everything done by the ps3 for a whole year? Where's the upside in that for Sony? You're telling me your whole year's lead can be dwindled down in just one quarter.
And THEN you say "not having as much games", yeah that excuse sure came in handy for this discussion didn't it, but not in the the other 99% of threads where you claim the ps3's lineup is better.Just end the thread now please. hopesfall2own
