I learned a long time ago to think for myself, reviews are just opinions and while they are an ok reference, you should never put them over your own opinion. I read multiple reviews, never just one, that's the worst mistake you could make because you are only getting one perspective on it.
I think it's fanbase size that makes a game score well on here. All-Stars appeals to the PlayStation fan audience, it's not like COD or Halo so they will flop it. They cannot flop COD or Halo because the fanbase will bombard them, of course the RE6 review goes agaisnt this argument but RE6 is not COD or Halo levels.
Maybe this was the reviewers honest opinion, but sometimes I don't really know, bias does exist in game journalism.
I think people create the air of game bias more often than it really exists.Frankly, for this generation, the two systems are almost identical in library that a chance to play and review an exclusive should be an absolute gift. It's telling that the best selling games on both Xbox 360 and PS3 are multiplatform -- platform doesn't really matter this gen. So exclusives are the best chance to play something original and fun that only a small segment of people will play -- which also means you should be a bit harder because that said audience is hoping this game, which only they will play, is really worth shelling $60 for.
What does makes a game score well is that its a good game -- there's no doubt that good games get good scores. It always happens. Sometimes they're a bit overrated, or underrated, but from what I've seen this generation the games have been rated near what they "should" be. Even if a game is overrated, you can always chalk it up to user preference/opinion.
The problem with reviews today is that the gaming community has changed what a good review is. It used to be that a game that scored a 6 was a "well I'll rent it, or try it for myself sometime when I have a chance. Maybe when it's on sale." Now you don't touch that game because it's supposedly horrendous. Now if you get a 7, which usually means its a good, solid, fun, playable game, you're lambasted as bad. Even a 8 is just "OK". People want games to get 9s like its Halloween candy. It doesn't work that way. We as readers need to stop looking at a silly number and read the review. The words are worth more than the number. When people realize this, they'll get more enjoyment out of gaming.
