[QUOTE="ps3_owns_360Wii"]

[QUOTE="Stevie_Q"] And ps3_owns_360Wii is a logical choice when you can`t have love for all sytems, right? Anyways, this issue is not so black and white. There games on 360 that consitently connect without any lag, and games on PS3 that have terrible lag. It's impossible to say that one system lags more than the other, period.Steppy_76

but im saying that games on live lag more than on psn from my experiences

EDIT: even if i chose 360 owns ps3wii or wii owns 360ps3, i would still get flamed for my name.

but that name pretty much removes any chance of things you say concerning systems being given any credence. IMO it isn't a good idea to pick a name like that if you want people to actually listen to what you say, as it paints you as biased before you even type anything.

but alot of poster know that i have all 3 systems, even if i have to tell them from time to time

That's not a matter of XBL vs. PSN. It's a P2P vs. Dedicated Servers argument. They all use the same internet. And there are games on XBL that use dedicated servers.

That doesn't matter, the name conveys a certain message regardless of what systems you own. How impartial would I be considered if my name was REPUBSownDEMS in a political discussion even if I voted democrat in the last election?

psn is terrible though for things without exclusives, or if you don't have the greatest connection. I played my 360 on campus, with very few problems, ps3 however I feel lucky if I get in a game, and if its not laggy, I feel there is a god! And after I brought it home one weekend, you can see the difference quite easily when you have a game that uses p2p on the ps3, its not nearly as good. Take cod: waw for example, at my house it was flawless on my 360, but on my ps3 it still had hiccups here and there, not being able to migrate hosts, or just a bad host in general. The networking code on the 360 is amazing really. And back on my dorm however, I had to bring back resistance 2 since It was so bad online it was ridiculous. I lagged so bad I'd kill people a few seconds after they killed me. KZ2 I'm not having many problems at school though, get disconnected but the games are only slightly laggy. I'm wishing I still had my 360 and WaW /sigh

edit: i failed to mention that in game with cod waw wasn't bad at all with the ps3 on a good connections, its mainly still getting connected to people that was the problem, get set up as the host and people can't join, can't migrate hosts so you get kicked from a game, stuff like that.

Not all games on PSN have dedicated servers. And there are some XBL games that use them. I just love when people bust their humps just to prove how ignorant they are about certain things.

Sony's first (and some second)party multiplayer games use dedicated servers and they kick ass. ALL OTHER GAMES USE THE SAME METHOD AS XBL.

Both networks can be terribly laggy.

After switching to a ps3 recently I miss the $50 charge because of the sub-par experience that I paid an extra $200 for.

no I went along with your statement. I get lag sometimes. the point is PS3 doesn't charge its gamers. where as MS has the audacity to charge 50$ per year just so you can access the multiplayer features of your game? no other platform does that!

well i could play easily on campus with my 360 with a few bad games, I can't really with my ps3... I mentioned it in a post above, but xbl has a much better connection algorithm to find and connect random players, psn is much more buggy, I'm not talking about lag in game, but just getting to a game. The experience on the 360 is much better, and much much more consistent across different games, when getting with your friends, and getting into games. Once your in a game, there's probably the same amount of lag depending on the host/server.

edit: and if you don't have the best connection, with the problem that i have on campus, psn is trash, 360 holds up much much better when you have a sub par connection.

yeah it must be the connection. I've had lag but I can;t say I've been denied joining other players etc. regardless the point is one charges 50$ per year! if you buy halo3 then you never really own the mutliplayer features because of that charge. no other platform does that... I hear a lot of people complaining about PS3 price but I'm surprised they don't complain about the ridiculous charge for live. oh the same service is free on PC btw.

Playstation Network > Xbox Live ( lag wise )( why is this true?)

- Playstation network has dedicated servers, and MS has failed to make dedicated servers because of one reason : thier cheap. Even after XBL costs a yearly fee (a nonexpensive one, that could add up) 360 users always say "PSN lags" the truth is psn games have a latency just as much as 360 in nonexclusive games, but for ps3 exclusives Sony has Dedicated Servers (the only thing that make games like Resistance 2 online (with 60 players) Or MAG (256 players) work. (warhawk - 40). Killzone 2 online (32) , also has dedicated servers and never lags like games with p2p only. (Halo 3 - 16 players) (Gears 2 - 10 players) (peer 2 peer) Dedicated servers are needed for big games with almost zero lag. They may be more of a hassle fo developers to produce, but even after the xbl fee, MS has made no game on 360 with dedicated servers Im am not saying p2p constantly lags (COD4 & W@W hardly had any), but it is a large DISadvantage from dedicated. (especially for big games)Playstation is also 100% free online with any game. PS i acually wish X360 would start using dedicated, i would then be able to play gears 2 online!

Explaining the difference

P2P - Peer to peer, player 2 player (one lags, we all lag)

360

PS3

Dedicated, all going through one server (and ^^^^ They have to pay for that?)

my speed (wireless)

StealthKnife
xbox live games such perfect dark zero which have optimatch xbox live's original interface for online play. you can set ur xbox360 as a dedicated server, but you cannot play the game, the xbox360 is souly dedicated to running that let's say 32 perfect dark zero you would would need another 360 to connect, but you can also host 31 player game with you in that, which is peer to peer. but xbox live can do dedicated lol.

any xbox live with which supports optimatch you can host dedicated server. you can buy a xbox360 set that dedicated to running a 32 player perfect dark zero server. and if the person who hosted the dedicated server wanted to play in their server they would need another xbox360 and copy of the game. this guy eebobb on unreal championship 1# had 2 xbox's 1 to set as dedicated uc 16 player server and 1 for him to play in the server.

When unreal championship 1# first launched on the oiginal xbox, digital extremes the dev used to set a bunch of their xbox's as dedicated servers, they used to be a bunch of official servers, but as the game got some age they eventually stop running dedicated servers and just let other people make em if they wanted.

I can understand what your saying, but after getting used to it, xbl doesn't offer better in game features, but better out of game features. I know M$ has dedicated servers just for the matchmaking you see in games like halo and gears 2, Its got a much better community because it has much better ways of bringing everyone together. And its consistent through almost every game thats out for xbox. I had the same thought process when i bought my ps3, M$ locks us out of game content and puts tolls in it. Now I see they brought it up to a different standard and consistency. And probably one of the biggest annoyances with psn, playing cod waw, if the host disconnects you loose the game, a lot, which never really happens on the 360 which migrates hosts fairly smoothly. And this is rare, but when someone else is on a computer in my house, a couple of times i got dropped into a game and no one could connect to me. Thats what happens 90% of the time on campus though, I just can't connect to people. Actually seeing how much better xbl is with connecting people, and all the other features it has like party chat, cross game invites, its just a much better way to play with friends and connect to the community. Your not paying 50$ to play games online, its more like your paying to join the online community, likes its a social club or something.

my criticism isn't about the community or the live cross game features. my only criticism is about not being able to play online without paying that 50$ toll. I already payed 60$ for the game. I should have access to it. if I had a choice between pure online mutliplayer and online multiplayer with all these fatures. then I would chose the basic experience. because at the end of the day all you want is to play games.

I agree grr320. live online multiplayer is similar to basic multiplayer of PC's. live just doesn't justify its yearly 50US$ price.

LOL, you have got to be kidding me. I loved my ps2 and i enjoy my ps3, but the online is nowhere near as good as Xboxlive.

The game that has lagged the most for me this gen is the new Socom. I use to love the older Socom games, but this new one is garbage, the worst in the series and has bad lag.

Come to think of it the only game i get lag on on xboxlive/360 is Team Fortress2.

Xboxlive is now only 39$ a year, its barely anything for the best online avilable on consoles. Sure PC online is best, but xboxlive is miles better then psn imo. Still cant talk to a friend of mine while im on MGS4 and hes on Ratchet and Clank, along with many other thigns i have against PSN. Its decent, but beign way overrated here.

I guess you pay for xbox live because you are paying microsoft to maintain the xbox live service, every game is connected to same service all intergrated. on playstation network it's up to the dev's to run the server for their game.

39$ a year? their website still says 50$!. and still the straight fact is that most the time the host is a user! i.e user takes all the costs for bandwidth. so whats with the 50$ charge? is that charge for the cross game chatting functions? if such a useless piece of garbage costs 50$ a year then I'd much rather have the straightforward online multiplayer system. end of the day its about gaming. not about chatting...

this has been said 100s of times for some reason cows don't see to wanna listen

terrible is wrong, lag comes and goes on both networks, im just pointing out to fanboys that say "psn lags" that it is not true, and for exclusives it is the opposite

OMG I doubt you know anything about online game.

Why people get the impression that all PSN games are totally lag-free with dedicated server support, and all LIVE games are backed laggy P2P servers, I will never know. I do know that it makes me lose that much more faith in humanity though.

PSN uses dedicates servers ... so does Xbox live. What you mean to say is that top PS3 games implement dedicates servers, whereas top 360 games dont.

please name 1 xbl exclusive that has dedicated, they is none, MS fees are not going to "give better servers" its all p2p i believe they are some nonexclusive dedicated like the orange box, but i might be wrong, ive never played it.
