After playing through and being blown away by ME2, I decided to pick up Yakuza 3 to play and all I can say is its extemely underwhelming. While the in-game cinemas are nice, the actual gameplay graphics are atrocious. It literally looks like a hi-res yakuza 2. The animation are some of the worst this gen. This game has some of the worst invisible walls i've ever seen in a game (there are places that look like you could explore that are part of the city that are blocked off by invisible walls). About 60% of the games story is told through text so the nice looking cinemas I mentioned earlier are few and far in-bewtween. The fighting system is shallow and repetitive when every 5 seconds some punk wants to fight with you. The minigames are badly implented as well. This game just feels dated, like sega was on a tight budget when making this. I think I would have enjoyed this game more if I had played it before playing ME2. But since I didnt, I cant forgive the overall laziness of sega, especially after playing though a super-polished title like ME2

I think ME2 has ruined games for me..

Yeah. I had the misfortune of playing White Knight Chronicles right after ME2 and I couldn't do it. To be honest though, I think that game would have annoyed me whenever I would have gotten around to playing it. The same thing happened with Heavy Rain, although I eventually went back to it and finished it.

I'm not having that problem now though. I'm currently playing Yakuza 3 and FF 13 and finding that my patience threshold has returned. I like Yakuza 3 quite a bit so far. I love games with realistic Japanese characters rather than the cartoonish anime nonsense found in most JRPGs. It's one of the reasons I found Persona 4 so appealing.

I had the same problem after playing MGS 4, I was mentally exhausted after playing it and had to lay off games for a couple of days.

GsStarCraft ruined gaming for me but Mass Effect 2 ruined other RPGs. Hell, I can't even look at JRPGs now because I know how inferior they are.

Hmm good question. Not really, because I always go for top tier games. Example, FF13, GOW3, Heavy Rain, etc. As long as developers, with new IPs, and returning sequels continue to push the boundaries of gaming technology, as well as gameplay and innovation, I'll be fine. Usually, their efforts show in games and warrant a buy. Btw, comparing ME2 to Yakuza 3, is like putting a domestic dog against a wolf. Yakuza 3 doesn't even stand a fight against some of last gen's game. It's already underwhelming by itself, let alone be compared to a titan game like ME2.

Ummm no. While Mass Effect 2 is great, imo it falls flat on certain areas, its like a mix of a good shooter and a good rpg, a jack-of-all-trades, master of none. The shooting mechanics and rpg elements are good but definitely lacking when compared to other games. For example comparing it to The Witcher makes ME2 fall flat out as far as rpg elements are concerned. The same goes for comparing it to other good shooters. Though then again this is all imo.

Mass effect 2 is great game. I think one of the best this year... But it didn't ruin any game. I still like what I like. If one game is really awesome I don't think that other games have to have all the same things. I play different games and I look at different things from them. If story and characters are good usualy I like that game. I don't mind if it looks undated... If the gameplay is good and story I can forget all how the game looks like. I play games cause they are fun.

NO it's a great game. I liked Bayonetta better, and right now. I think I'm going to like God of War 3 more as well.

Despite the fact that Mass Effect 2 may be my favourite game of this year (possibly this generation thus far), it did not ruin gaming for me. If anything it made me appreciate gaming more because it can be considered a shining example of how far games have come and instills all that I love in video games. (Memorable Characters, high production values, epic story, great combat etc)

Luckily I could still play other games, but I wouldn't be surprised if it increased standards for other people, the game was so freaking awesome.

I don't get people who are saying Crysis, it probably had the opposite effect on me, but that's just me...

I played about 30min or ME2. My oldest boy played it and beat it. He is going to be 16 in a couple months so he is in the "im young and im so cool and i know everything about everything" crowd. He never playes it after beating it. With zero muliplayer at all it has zero replayability. So there is 60$ gone for a one time go through.

ME2...very over rated

Uncharted 2 did for a little while for me.

Not graphically, just gameplay wise.

A few other games did this to me too.

Nah... But then again ME2 was the last game I deeply played before I lost interest in gaming altogether. But I don`t think the quality of the game is the reason. To be honest, I don`t think any game has ruined gaming for me.

Mass Effect 2 is one of the best games i've ever played. Time and time again i'll think 'ok amma go to this planet to recruit this team member....' and then four hours later i'll have done everything BUT what i set out to do. There's literally that much stuff to do which pulls you off the main story path.

No, it was amazing but I played Resident Evil 5 afterwarda at long last and that was still really enjoyable. I am currently playing through SMG again and to be honest Im wondering if ME2 will even be my personal GOTY once SMG2 arrives.

Mass effect is the simplification of everything not only in gameplay but in content and features. Sure who need inventory in an rpg? Lets remove it and add some headshots. It should be called role playing third person shooter with 1TON dialogues. But fun aside, mass effect 2 is not the revolution people make it to be. I belive that both dragon age and fallout 3 are higly superior title with more detail, complex gameplay and far more content. Mass effect 2 simply falls short.

I was blown away pretty much the whole time. Especially the Nepal levels, the train sequence, and the ending in that one special city. My jaw literally dropped during that train ride. All I could think was "Holy ****, is this even real?!"

Mass Effect is the worst Bioware franchise ever, with the exception of Jade Empire, and that was only one game. Fail.

sure, i will try but first you would need to inform me how are you defining epic and opera 9feel free to take ME 2 as an example)? Secondly, a bit of curiosity on my part, how would Mass Effect 2 being average implies that there are "the plethora of other epic sci-fi 30+ hour space operas"

Same here, one thing that mass effect really lacked was impressive level design and characters like Nathan Drake with some interesting quotes and dialogues for a change.

level design, yes totally agree. It's too predictable Characters? I like Nathan for his wit, but he's pretty generic. He's ripped whole sale from so many adventure films it isn't even funny. Mass Effect 2 has better characters by a country mile(persoanlly). In terms of backstory, depth, overall dialogue. All very well done, very well written. Even the cliche type characters come off strong.

Wait, Mass Effect lacked impressive characters but Uncharted 2 didn't? You do realize that almost every character from Uncharted is ripped directly from action movies right? Not saying it as a bad thing necessarily as it compliments the type of game Uncharted 2 is, but they are definitely not impressive, especially when compared to the cast from Mass Effect 2

I hated all the female characters in ME 2. (except Tali) Heck, I even made a thread asking how to kill them off during the final mission.

final fantasy is good, at least the older ones are. also ME2 is WAY WAY WAY overrated. the only part i think it shines in is the dialogue and the character development. most skills and stuff are useless, too few weapons, very linear action, not many sidequests, just a really dull game except for the characters. now KOTOR, ruined RPGs for me, that games is head and shoulders better than ME2 or for that matter nearly any other rpg

If by ruining you mean realzing the only thing people like these days is flashy graphics, and RPGs that are primarliy shooters... then yes.... it has put a huge downer on it.
