Portal 2 is overrated.

Before everyone starts flaming me, hear me out.

Yes, the gameplay is great, the writing is awesome, the atmosphere is also great, and the game is all around well made and an excellent sequel.

However, inbetween the SP and MP, there's only like 15 hours of content. Total. And, to me, that is what makes the game overrated. The game is awesome while it lasts, but I feel that too many people overlook the length of it. It doesn't really have any bonus features, not alot of replay value (unless you go for the Achievments/ Trophies) and doesn't really last.

You may say "other SP Valve games are that short." Well, In the case of Half Life, you can always go through using different weapons and trying different things etc. L4D, well, has alot of replay value.

So, yeah, while there is no doubt that Portal 2 is excellent, I still think it's overrated to some degree.

portal 2 got a free pass from reviewers and such just from being well...portal and made by valve. It was a still a good game though i just don't see how it got all those high scores.

I agree, but the same could be said for the Batman games. I persnoally am addicted to the combat in them. And the cool thing is, the challenge maps. They significantly extend the playtime. Portal 2 lacks something like that.

I was coming in here to say exactly this.

But you do have a point, TC. The length is too short. But it's a trade-off really, because the time you do spend, I think, is amoing the most fun titles I've played in a while. As opposed to a game like Minecraft where it will last you a very very long time, but the individual things you are doing during gameplay aren't that fun in an of themselves.

It's just a puzzle game. Why do people make a big deal about it so much? Cuz you think it's made by Valve? Well, it actually isn't. Neither is CS, L4Dead, etc.percech

I havent played it, it doesn't intrest. I do find the gneral buzz around it be overwhelming, I found Portal 1 fun, but I wouldnt enjoy a full length game. Thats just me though, really if I did play it, it would be for the writing and comedy I have hear about it...for that I could go to youtube.

I agree that Portal 2 is a bad game. The gameplay is simplistic, repetitive, and boring. The writing and voice acting are like something out of the worst anime dubs or Saturday morning cartoons. The characters are all unmemorable and stock cliches.

The only reason these awful games keep getting good reviews is that websites love to suck up to major developers like Valve, Naughty Dog, and Rockstar.

I've never played the game and have no interest in playing it. That's pretty much all I can say.

As for the length, that in no ways factors in how great of game it is. 16 hours is actually a good amount of time, and perfect for the stroy it wants to tell. What we should be asking is, does the shorter length factor into a better game? Also co-op, most fun I have had this gen.

Whatever. I don't care if you play it. It's your loss to be so close minded. But that's right, someone at some point in time told a game was good and you didn't like it. I can't really stand people who won't give a game a shot becasue it "isn't their thing".

And a lot of things don't interest me. Not being interested in something is in no way, shape or form "close minded". I couldn't care less about what other people think of Portal 2. It just doesn't interest me. The same goes for RDR, MGS4 and Dark Souls.

The prequel trilogy are arguably the biggest sci-fi masterpieces in cinematic history and make up for the crap that were the originals.

i disagree, portal 2 is the purest example of quality over quantity. the game is brilliant every second of the way, it's worth every penny.

Cut the BS that Valve made it so it get's a free pass. Maybe they, i don't know, make high quality games consistantly and have yet to dissapoint us? Some of you may not like the game but don't go around making little conspiracy theories because they have yet to make a low scoring game

It was kinda fun, but Rage is more fun in it's pure gameplay (just shooting, IGNORE ALL IT'S FLAWS, like story, buggies, textures, the terrible bosses, and AMD side driver issues). Fun story that makes me smile or giggle < great gunplay,which is damn rare.

Didn't like Wheatley... Portal1 was more fun because I liked GLaDOS, but still completely devoid of replay value and both are horrendously short.

Also, with it's gameplay and presentation, I have a very hard time imagining it being longer, or more varied in it's environment types, gameplay, or story style... it's just feels very limited. Maybe if they combined it with a semi-real world setting, with Mirror's Edge mechanics and looks somehow, with the portal gun!

Who's 'us', Portal2 was actually a pretty big dissapointment, if you hate stupid characters (Wheatley{ai, as in: artificial idiot}), and were expecting a more 'full' game. Portal2, to me, didn't feel like it was much more of a fully developed game than Portal1 did...
