Yes, the gameplay is great, the writing is awesome, the atmosphere is also great, and the game is all around well made and an excellent sequel.

turtlethetaffer

How can you say this ^^^ then say the game is over rated. The qualities you mentioned above makes Portal 2 better than 80% of the games this gen.

Really what's wrong with the 360 version, I've only just bought and started playing it for only an hour but is there anything legitimately wrong with it? Or just fanboy talk?

Do you ever actually say anything constructive, or do you just go into thread after thread saying the 360 version of everything is broken? Gamespot cannot come up with an ignore button fast enough because of people like you.

I agree that Portal 2 is a bad game. The gameplay is simplistic, repetitive, and boring. The writing and voice acting are like something out of the worst anime dubs or Saturday morning cartoons. The characters are all unmemorable and stock cliches.

TheFallenDemon

Wow.

You see guys, this is the reason you need to back up your claims with proper examples if the claims you're making are bold. I mean, I'm not the biggest fan of Portal 2, but the idea that the writing and voice acting are terrible and something like an animé dub are beyond ludicrous. And you got the cheek to say that when a personal favourite of yours, Assassin's Creed II (even though I love the game more than Portal), can stoop down to true video game writing mediocrity from time to time.

actually its because the ps3 technology cell is ahead of its time and ppl are still catching up with technology that is the cell...kara will tap some of the powers of the cell but im sure there will be more untapped power for years to come. even with the bit thats been tapped in already, it has left the ps3 with a plethora of animation and grafix kinz

I play it on PC where I get free brand new maps and updates. I also get L4D1 maps remastered for L4D2.

Dead Island is not an amazing co-op experience, it simply becomes more playable with friends, but then again what game doesn't.

And also, L4D 1 and 2 are one of the highest selling games on Steam, so you're point is lame

I don't think the legnth is too bad. While you're playing it's like the best time of you're life

Inconsistancy

It was kinda fun, but Rage is more fun in it's pure gameplay (just shooting, IGNORE ALL IT'S FLAWS, like story, buggies, textures, the terrible bosses, and AMD side driver issues). Fun story that makes me smile or giggle < great gunplay, which is damn rare.

Didn't like Wheatley... Portal1 was more fun because I liked GLaDOS, but still completely devoid of replay value and both are horrendously short.

Also, with it's gameplay and presentation, I have a very hard time imagining it being longer, or more varied in it's environment types, gameplay, or story style... it's just feels very limited. Maybe if they combined it with a semi-real world setting, with Mirror's Edge mechanics and looks somehow, with the portal gun!

Cut the BS that Valve made it so it get's a free pass. Maybe they, i don't know, make high quality games consistantly and have yet to dissapoint us? Some of you may not like the game but don't go around making little conspiracy theories because they have yet to make a low scoring game

OB-47

Who's 'us', Portal2 was actually a pretty big dissapointment, if you hate stupid characters (Wheatley{ai, as in: artificial idiot}), and were expecting a more 'full' game. Portal2, to me, didn't feel like it was much more of a fully developed game than Portal1 did...

Us are the people constantly impressed by Valve, gamers and reviewers alike. And Wheatly isn't a stupid character, many people found him funny in a dorky kind of way. His dialogue was better than most "serious" games dialogue. To me it felt like a much bigger game than Portal 1. It had more features in gameplay, huge levels, better graphics, better writing, co-op and a whole lot more content.

If you're dissapointed by Portal 2, than fine, I don't know what you were expecting, but there is no conspiracy that people gave Portal a free pass because it was Valve.

The only reason these awful games keep getting good reviews is that websites love to suck up to major developers like Valve, Naughty Dog, and Rockstar.

TheFallenDemon

The writing and voice acting rape anything from any Assassin's Creed game.

There's a reason why it's sweeping up GOTY awards. It's not because of some retarded conspiracy where everyone treats it all high and mighty because it's from Valve; the game is actually GOOD.

Valve could of really expanded with the awesome mechanics, adding challenge and complexity to the puzzles. Portal 2 just comes off as an extended tutorial, targeting, in addition, fans who haven't played the first one. As a puzzle game, this is unacceptable.

I've never played the game and have no interest in playing it. That's pretty much all I can say.

Ballroompirate

Well that sounds pretty closed minded. Portal is arguably the pinnacle of storytelling in videogames.

As for the length, that in no ways factors in how great of game it is. 16 hours is actually a good amount of time, and perfect for the stroy it wants to tell. What we should be asking is, does the shorter length factor into a better game? Also co-op, most fun I have had this gen.

Ahahaha OH GOD my side hurts from laughing so much, I seriously hope you're kidding cause that's the equivalent to saying George Lucas makes good space dramas.

I said "arguably", so let's argue.

If you can't appreciate the quality of storytelling that goes into a game like prtal than it's a little hard for me to respect anything you might say. Valve does a fantastic job of creating a story within the realms of the "vidoegame". What I mean by that is Gameplay and story have been gears grinding ever since videogames were created. They never really meshed. Valve uses minimalistic storytelling, enviroment detail, atmosphere, and charatcers to generate such a strong piece of narative.

A great example of really delving into what makes portal 2 great is the introduction of Old Aperature. Instead of just having a flashback, they introduce it in a very unique way. They have the player fall through a large tunnel, which is symbolic of a worm hole, having the player travel through time without actually doing so. It is a great way to piece the two settings together.

THere is much more to talk about so I hope you stop laughing, and actually have a stimualting converstaion with me. Instead of using the tiresome george lucas joke, why don't you back up your words with some evidence? By the way, my favorite Sci-fi movies are 2001 and Moon.

If the rest of the game is good then the amount of time playing said game shouldn't matter.

Dear Esther is about an hour long and it's amazing.

Limbo is about 2-3 hours long and it's also amazing.

I can't agree with you on this. I honestly can't find a single flaw in the game. Valve even gave the game a nice 2-3 hour DLC for free post release. I definitely got my money's worth with Portal 2 and it was one of the best games I played last year

Yeah it's one of those games that's extremely good once and worse everytime after. You laugh at the jokes less and less and you already know the ways through the puzzles.

Kinda like going through Amnesia after finishing it once. Gets less and less scary

Why would you ever play it more than once...?

I don't understand people's obsession with replaying games. Unless there's a clearsave feature or the game is built with multiple playthroughs in mind, there's no reason to go through again. Except maybe 5 years later.

That's a profoundly stupid thing to say to be honest

I hope the puzzle creator for it is released soon. That will add lots of extra gameplay.

Wasn't it already released?

[QUOTE="PinnacleGamingP"] dead island > L4D, ask anyonePinnacleGamingP

Referring to PC

Should I ask the 1000 people playing Dead Island right now, a 2011 game?

Or the 11,000 people playing Left 4 Dead 2, a 2009 game?

huh?

You said Dead Island>L4D ask anyone.

So I showed that L4D2 has more than 10 times the amount of people playing on PC despite being made in 2009.

The length is its biggest issue, really one of its only issues. Which is what makes it an amazing game, besides that one flaw, it's almost perfect.

You're asking the wrong person.

I barely know how ANY kind of creation kit like program works. :P

I'm just saying that you might get some fun out of inventing new things in the beta. As for me...I can't even make a @#$%ing wall....that's how bad it is for me.
