Pre-Mature, but will PS4 be first place next gen?

The original PlayStation dominated the competition, knocking Nintendo's N64 off their high-horse and sending SEGA into a desperate frenzy.

PlayStation 2 came out and dominated even more... becoming the best selling home console ever. It knocked SEGA out of the console manufacturing business, walked all over the GameCube, and crushed XBox so bad that MS lost a ton of money on their console. 

PS3, while not as dominant as it's predecessors, has still sold 75+ Million units globally. It is basically tied with Xbox360 in sales despite coming out an entire year later (year and a half later in Europe) and being more expensive ($599 at Launch). IMO Sony did everything to screw up the PS3's launch and it hurt their reputation a lot, but they still somehow made a comeback and did what no one thought was possible. They tied 360 in sales (give or take.... whoever has the lead right now, its by an insignificant margin). 


Now this gen, Wii U has Launched first and is doing pretty abysmal sales. The new Xbox is strongly rumoured to have weaker specs than the PS4. Sony has struck before MS and has generated a ton of buzz for the PS4. The Launch window looks pretty good with Drive Club, Killzone, Knack, Watch Dogs, ACIV:Black Flag, and more. Plus securing exclusive content for Bungie's Destiny was a solid move. 2014 will probably see Infamous:Second Son and Uncharted 4 come out. 

The controller has been upgraded. PS4's online is up to par, if not better than XBL. PS4 is dev-friendly and will be easier to develop for. 

And the way I look at it, if Sony could tie 360 with the PS3 despite all their screw ups.... then next gen should be an easy victory considering they're both coming out around the same time and Sony has promised the new console won't be $599 like PS3 was.

If PS4 isn't #1 next gen, well, then that #1 machine (whatever it is) must be pretty impressive, or have an impressive line up of games. What I've seen about the PS4, it's very much a well thought out console. It is certainly a very very strong contender.

I think PS4 will come in first place this time. PS4 seems like a much better thought out console than the PS3 was plus I don't see them launching at $599. The fact that they'll actually launch with games this time is also a huge advantage. I remember when I bought my PS3 at launch and all I had to play for months was RFOM (:| that was horrible). This time they'll actually launch with KZ, Infamous, DriveClub, Destiny and whatever they'll announce at E3. MS will really have to bring the games this time or hope that Kinect is a wild success like the wii was to beat Sony. From the looks of it MS has abandoned making games and they are hoping that Kinect is the next in thing. Good luck to them but I'll be spending my money on the console with games to go along my PC.I_can_haz

But I do know the garbage I have seen for over 2 years now. And what has been stopping the development of great games for about 4 years now? Ill tell you. They closed down or sold off most of their core studios while transforming others into Family only studios. All this happened when they decided to invest tons of money into both Kinect and advertising. At the time they spent 400 million on their now defunct advertising agency (Massive Incorporated), they sold off Bizarre Creations and closed down others. You cannot tell me that with all the crap that's been going on with this company in recent years, you can remain optimistic. In the last few years its been letdown after letdown after letdown. And now even Lionhead is being run by a Kinect developer.Murderstyle75

You can't predict the future buddy. If you don't want a 720 that's fine, but you're not going to convince everyone into buying a PS4. In fact, calves have been turning me away from the Playstation brand.

Did you watch the PS4 event? The new PSN will be heavily intergrated with gaikai technology and of course it will have cross game chat. XBL has nothing on PSN now.
