Project Ouya finishes kickstart goal of nearly $1Million, in less than 24 hours.

The Android-powered, crowdfunded $99 game console, Ouya, just passed its $950K Kickstarter project goal. Considering the project page went live this morning, the Ouya reached its goal in well under its first 24 hours.

The Kickstarter remains active for another 29 days, and Ouya hopes to have the console in supporters' hands by "Q1 2013." Founder and CEO Julie Uhrman told Joystiq, "The support has been unbelievable. And that's exactly why we took it to Kickstarter ... Kickstarter has just been the most phenomenal platform ? for specifically, hardware and video game companies ? to bring their ideas to consumers. And if it resonates, you really get this swell of momentum and traction, and that's what we were hoping for. And it's just unbelievable, the level of support."

When you got a platform with less quality and quantity of games than even iOS, this is gonna turn out bad. Developers just don't care for Android, thus explains the lack of good games. Epic, for one, doesn't care.

Pretty awesome that Kickstarter is such a successful place to get an idea off the ground. Intrigued by the controller, love the console design too. We'll have to see how it turns out and how it tries to segway into the cloud-gaming space and how well (you know it will undoubtedly pursue that end).

Honestly, I love the concept and the open source nature of the machine. They got my $225 for the kickstarter edition all ready :)

I doubt nintendo/sony/sega will say, go ahead and play our games on tthis system.

It's more gonna be like,

Hey we have a hackble console, lets just make our own emulator and let people know how to do it to.

Technically it won't be supported, but 99.999% the emulators will be some of the first things that will be avablie, legal or not.

Outside of the iffy looking console design I am intrigued by how this console will turn out.

And being cheap I may even purchase it at one point, if it does well and gets some good software.

It looks like it runs Unreal well. If you look at the Kickstarter Page and watch the video or look at the second Image they have, it has something that looks like an Unreal game.

People be crazy. The idea behind Ouya is a great, but forking Android is the wrong way to go about it -- the appeal should be that I can buy one copy of a game and play it on my Android phone/tablet/Ouya, not that I can buy a copy of the game from Google Play and then him-and-haw as to wether or not I want to bother investing time/money in Ouya's F2P version (or vice-versa).
