PS2 Most overrated console ever?

the system definitely has a good amountof games, but not that many that appeal to me

but then again i never really looked too much into it

imo the two years the Dreamcast was out was >>>>>> all last gen consoles combined.

If only it hadn't died off.

So yah I guess I'd have to agree it's overrated since people think it's better than the Dreamcast

why do people love the dreamcast so much? i just dont see it. i own one, it had like a few decent games. otherwise it was loaded down with quirky but not necessarily good japanese games and great sports games that got completely eclipsed by the ps2. can somebody honestly answer what was so good about it, other than nostalgia and the fact that it was segas last console? i understand that it seemed awesome at launch where it was ahead of its time, but that lasted for like one year before it got totally overshadowed.

not trying to rag on anybody here, maybe im just missing something or some piviotal game int he dc library? i just dont see what makes it so great.

Is there a nostalgia factor? Sure there is; Sega obviously spent a lot of time figuring out how to market the machine. The colors, the logo, everything was pretty consistent in the marketing department. This leaves that "good taste" in gamers' mouths long after the console is done with. However, this doesn't mean that the love of the dreamcast isn't warranted.

--the system was loaded with great arcade ports like Crazy Taxi and House of the Dead.

--Code Veronica on the dreamcast remains(imo) as the best RE game ever made.

--four controller ports

--$199 launch price

--The 2k sports series was faaaaaaar better than madden/nba live.

--It had Soul Calibur, which is still the best version of that game, imo

--Power Stone was another killer exclusive--a system seller in many peoples eyes.

--To this day, it is the system to own if you want to play 2D fighters.

--The system had VGA out. The best looking Dreamcast games actually look better than the ps2 because of this. If you use the VGA box, the visuals are surprisingly crisp.

--The console was filled with great racers. San Franscisco Rush 2049 is a classic.

--It launched shenmue, a revolutionary RPGish type game. This game went on to influence the WRPG genre.

--The system had tons of old school 16bit style shooters.

-------that's all off the top of my head, but I could keep going. I will agree that it's followers have created this cult like status for the system, though.

I don't know. I enjoyed my gamecube when I owned it, but I took a look at the Gamecube's library to see if there were any games I'd like to buy and honestly there's not much of a library available.

100% Agree. Just a great console, lots and lots of good games. Not as good as PS2, but still one of my favorite consoles ever.

i would say its somewhat overrated(not to me)but thats because its popular usually anything popular is considered overrated.

even though the ps2 library is phenomenal, i do believe that the reason people praise the ps2 so much is off of nostalgia from probably the greatest gaming era to date.

since the ps2 had many of the best games, and it outsold the competition by tons i do believe that the nostalgia factor of the ps2 carried over to why now people cater to it like a baby.

are we forgetting that some of the best dreamcast games were arcade games!?
