Why compare the jump from PS2 to 360? Why not xbox 1(lawl) to xbox 360? What if you compare the jump from DC to 360?Â
Same for this gen. What if you compare the jump from Wii to PS4? lolÂ
How do we know how big the graphics jump will be before the generation even started.
We need to actually see the devs get used to the hardware first.
PS2 6th GEN of consoles ----->> 360 7th gen of consoles 360 7th gen of console--------->> PS4 8th gen of consolesWhy compare the jump from PS2 to 360? Why not xbox 1(lawl) to xbox 360? What if you compare the jump from DC to 360?Â

[QUOTE="True_Gamer_"][QUOTE="clyde46"]Nope. clyde46Wait so youre saying that Sony/MS are cheapskates now? The tech has advanced past the consoles. The 360 launched with the worlds first unified shader GPU. There's nothing like that this time around. So in order to be on scale with the 360 MS would have to put a 7970 in the Xbone?

But wasn't the PS2 the weakest console of gen 6, thus making your comparison a bit strange?
The 360 was running a $400-500 destop equivalent GPU that had unified shaders (which wasn't even out on the desktop market yet).
The ps4 is running a GPU similiar performance wise to a GTX 650ti boost SC which is valued around $155 in todays price...... (I think you get the picture).
To be honest I paid less than $200 for my 7870xt and my current overclock (without messing with the volts) puts it around 2x the performance as the ps4's GPU (this is something I paid less than $200 for).
[QUOTE="Razor_defiace"]PS2 6th GEN of consoles ----->> 360 7th gen of consoles 360 7th gen of console--------->> PS4 8th gen of consoles That still doesn't make sense. GC, DC and XB were all part of 6th Gen as well, and all had different power levels. Why PS2 to 360. Likewise why 360 to PS4? If you're looking at the most popular in each gen, it would be PS2 -> Wii and since we don't know the popularity yet, should probably be comparing Wii to both X1 and PS4. PS2 wasn't the weakest, but if we ignore the DC, then we should still be comparing to Wii... yeah, this just doesn't make sense. Why compare the jump from PS2 to 360? Why not xbox 1(lawl) to xbox 360? Since when does hardware power sell consoles? ;)
N64, first Xbox and PS3 were the strongest in their gens and none managed to get 1st place.
But if you want a picture:
PS2 to X360 - similar to Voodoo 5 (DX7) to Radeon X1800 (DX9) jump
X360 to PS4 - similar to Radeon X1800 (DX9) to Radeon HD 7850 (DX11) jump
Â
It's not so small jump but it's also true X360 was released far sooner than the PS4. (& X1)
[QUOTE="clyde46"]Nope. True_Gamer_Wait so youre saying that Sony/MS are cheapskates now?No, you are. He simply said "nope". Do you really have that hard of a time grasping what you read?
It's a smaller jump than the last time. Xbox 360 was competitive with high-end PC graphics cards when it launched. PS4 and especially Xbox One will be nowhere near high-end PC graphics cards when they launch.

But putting things into perspective - X360 was only competitive for the first year or two while PS3 was "dated on release".
Namely the GeForce 8800 combined with Intel Q6600 and 2 GB RAM put both consoles in the "trash bin" when it came to graphics. (see Crysis 1)
[QUOTE="Eddie-Vedder"]Seems like you have no idea what you are talking about......Seems like the Xbone to the PS4 is pretty similar to the PS2 to the 360. Gonna be rough for lems.Â

I don't know if the graphics gap is that big but it is big. Bigger than what separates 360 and PS3.

Of course the PC market surpassed it after a year or two because the PC market evolves constantly. Still the fact remains that when the 360 launched it had a damned good GPU in it for its time.

Everyone knows that Xbox One has 12 compute units and PS4 has 18. That's a big difference.

I haven't owned a Sony console since the original Playstation. I would prefer Xbox One to be more powerful, or heck, even as powerful as PS4 but it just isn't.

Not entirely true. 2 people can get the same information and get drastically different conclusions based on their education on the given information. For you to assume that 18>12 is a big difference would be pure speculation if you dont understand what compute units are or what they are capable of. For example, cows say that the power is a huge difference, yet when XBone's GPU was increased 53mhz, it was brushed off as minor. Do you know how each systems OS will be handled? If those extra compute units will be always dedicated to something else? You have no idea, so to speculate would be basically saying you are blinded by the internet info or either are a fanboy of either side already.[QUOTE="Wickerman777"][QUOTE="navyguy21"]LOL, says cows? It's 1.8 tflops vs 1.2 (Now 1.3). In other words it's roughly 7X the power of 360 vs 5X the power of 360. Everyone understands it just fine. You're going on about cows and bias but you're the only one showing it ... hell ... you're drowning in it. Does this mean PS4 will be more fun than Xbox One? Not necessarily. Heck, if ya ask me one big knock on PS4 is that god-awful controller. But to anyone without blinders on it's obvious that PS4 has a lot more graphics processing under its hood than Xbox One does.

X1 could have had a better GPU if they didn't invest into the next-gen Kinect so heavily.
It seems many console companies now think that just hardware alone is not enough to push consoles to wider audience. (see Wii U's "tablet" controller & Kinect)

Well, if ya know about PC tech than you know that 18 AMD compute units > 12 of them, lol.
But that isnt what our "debate" is about. A first grader would know 18>12. What it MEANS in real world processing is a different animal. As i said before, you keep talking as if a larger number = a large advantage, which isnt true at all, especially when there are so many other variables and moving parts. You ignore those, which is my point.Jumps in graphics get smaller with every generation because of the law of diminishing returns.genfactor
Â
They are getting bigger but the difference is getting harder to spot.
The jumps in previous console gens seemed massive because of the big polygon-count, AA and resolution increases but now it's harder to see the difference between a 40k poly model with high-res normal maps & last gen, 20k poly model with lower-res normal maps.
The "graphics race" isn't so significant anymore as it once was, altho devs invest heavily into graphics, still.

I have read them all, hell we have talked about them in presentations. Im just not blind. Again, im not saying the PS4 ISNT more powerful. You keep assuming that. The PS4 is clearly the more powerful system, and not just the GPU. What i thought we were debating is the disparity between the two. You said it was larger than PS3 vs 360. I NEVER said that PS4 was weaker or that the XB1 was as powerful. I have been defending the disparity this whole time. The difference in power isnt as large as you are trying to make it seem, bottom line. That was my whole point and it has remained the same. Your argument is all over the place.[QUOTE="Wickerman777"][QUOTE="navyguy21"]But that isnt what our "debate" is about. A first grader would know 18>12. The Playstation 4 tops out at 1.84 TFLOPS
I'd call that a rather HUGE upgrade.

It's around a 7X jump. Xbox One is around 5X as powerful as 360. Considering that 360 came out in 2005 I expected a 10X jump. But oh well, guess we're not getting that.
