Selling consoles with movies is like people buying a Dodge Calibur because it has a cooler in the glovebox.DJ_Lae

Whats your point, people will still by it.
We heard this all before with Spider Man. If games for a game console like MGS4 and RfoM and LBP can not do it then why would a movie push the sales for a game console? A person can buy a blu-ray for $150 so no reason to spend $400.rybe1025Why not pay the extra for gee...iono, a current HD game console as well?

Why would they shell out the extra cash for a game system when they can get a Blu-ray player for half the price?deathtoallgods

Sony needs to lower the price, they shouldve done it right after Microsoft announced it, anyone who thinks they dont need a price drop is delusional. Its gonna be a long holiday for Sony if the price remains the same, which it will. Dark Knight on Blu-Ray will probably break records but that doesnt help the PS3 move hardware units.

Think about it. Chances are that the people who want a PS3 for games and movies are not going to be swayed by an ad showing the Dark Knight (something that can be bought on DVD as well). This seems more like advertising to big movie buffs (hence the movie ad), so those people can get a half-price BR player.

Dark Knight record breaking most watch trailer online... record breaking summer 08 box office... and finally it will be record breaking Dark Knight bluray seller. Hope you all watch the Sony new ads with PS3/Dark Knight... this will deliver huge PS3 sales for the holiday... i won't be surprise if they bring out Dark Knight PS3 bundle.
"Sony has launched a series of TV commercials to lure consumers to buy the Playstation 3. As always these ads are very well put together and one of them features clips from "The Dark Knight" on Blu-ray." aka_aj03
Yes...millions of people will pay $400 to play one $30 movie. That makes total sense to me...especially in this economy. Just wait for Batman...all for the low price of $430 plus tax.
Hey, on the other hand, congratulations cows...you will finally be able to put your PS3 to good use...after spending months playing 360 games on your powerful PCs.
Grasping at straws 101.

EXACTLY.
We already heard this argument before with Spider-Man 3 on blu-ray. It failed then, and will fail again.

Exactly. I doubt a 2 hour movie is what will push gamers/movie buffs into finally shelling out $400 on a PS3. That would be idiotic imo.
In this thread you have two kinds of people.
The first kind which like myself are going "So...? What's the problem with this?"
The second kind are fanboys who think Sony shouldn't try to sell consoles. Then they will turn around and laugh at Sony for not selling enough consoles.

I think the thing we take issue with him saying that this will deliver huge PS3 sales. Also, the idea that a single 2 hour movie is going to get someone to buy a $400 console is crazy.

Ok and wouldn't those folks already have purchased the console? Why wait for Dark Knight?[QUOTE="deathtoallgods"][QUOTE="RuinedMachine"]
Geez I don't know maybe 'cause some people like videogames and movies and they can buy a PS3 which does both.
Man what a crazy thing, for people to enjoy both movies and videogames.aliasfreak

First it was MGS4 that was going to save the PS3...then it was Resistance2 and LBP. Now they think ONE movie can save the console. LOL
Desperate times...desperate indeed.
Hmm, it just might sell more then MGS4 even though D.K. has fewer hours of actual movie time. :P
Sorry guys, I just couldn't resist and I know MGS4 also has good game play or at least I've heard that before.
On topic, I really don't think many will run out to buy a PS3 for this and will just likely buy or rent the DVD.

PS3 needs 1 thing only, a price drop to the point where it's at the price of the 360 or at most $50 more.[QUOTE="RuinedMachine"]In this thread you have two kinds of people.

Exactly.
No one is faulting Sony for trying to sell PS3s. We just think it's crazy to think one movie alone is going to spur PS3 sales.

You'll be even better if you have a 1080P DVD upconverter (which is cheap).

If people want the movie really bad, there are chaper alternatives to the PS3 available now.

Exactly and therein lies the problem for Sony, they had 2 options, either release the PS3 with that price tag at the same time as 360 or if they were gonna wait a year, release it in the same price range. They did neither and now you can see the results.

As far as my eyes go, BR is not vastly superior visually. My brother has a PS3 and when he saw a DVD running on our upconverter, he asked if we had an HD player. I know, "my brother" stories don't carry any weight, but screw it, I don't care if you believe me.

The visual quality of Blu ray movies has been steadliy getting better, early movies it was hard to tell that it was actually Blu-ray. Same thing happened when DVD was released, early DVD's picture quality looked pretty terrible. However everyones vision is different and if you or your brother can't tell a difference, fair enough.
Can't you buy a 360 + seperate bluray player for cheaper than a PS3??

I think they should have released two versions of the PS3...one with a Blu-ray player, and the other one with a DVD. After a couple of years they could have pulled a switcharoo and made Blu-ray a requirement to develop for the PS3 (kinda what MS is trying to do with the 360 hard drive). I don't know if this would have put them in 1st place (ahead of the Wii), but I can almost guarantee you that they would be ahead of the 360.But they really wanted to push the Blu-ray format at all costs. We are now seeing the price Sony paid for such a greed driven blunder.
