Exactly and therein lies the problem for Sony, they had 2 options, either release the PS3 with that price tag at the same time as 360 or if they were gonna wait a year, release it in the same price range. They did neither and now you can see the results.

But they really wanted to push the Blu-ray format at all costs. We are now seeing the price Sony paid for such a greed driven blunder.

As far as the other post of mine that you replied to, yep, people's eyes are different, but if something was vastly superior visually, I'd think it would be obvious to everyone. Don't get me wrong now, I'm not trying to put BR down, I'm just kind of a stickler for word choice. If I had a PS3, I would probably invest the little extra if the sound really is that much better. I have noticed that on some DVDs the sound isn't that great.

Even though The Dark Knight is not a PS3 system seller, The Dark Knight blu ray is the best item to get for the PS3 all year. I'm buying it on DVD though but will be renting the blu ray version and getting it later on if there's a good deal or goes on sale. Blu rays are just too expensive right now.

Edit: Sorry dude, I just realized id actually did not make myself clear at all.

What I meant to say is they should have released Sony games in DVD at launch...and then, a couple of years later, released them in both DVD and Blu-ray (not only in Blu-ray). For the DVD only PS3 owners, they could have offered a Blu-ray add on.

Dark Knight record breaking most watch trailer online... record breaking summer 08 box office... and finally it will be record breaking Dark Knight bluray seller. Hope you all watch the Sony new ads with PS3/Dark Knight... this will deliver huge PS3 sales for the holiday... i won't be surprise if they bring out Dark Knight PS3 bundle.

Now that ultimate suckage would not suck so much if there was a possibility that the 16.8 could possibly turn into 130 somewhere down the line...but the thing is, the PS3 sales have actually slowed down...while the 360s have picked up.

I'll be definitely getting Dark Knight on Bluray, as my roomate already owns a PS3 and 1080p TV to watch it on. However, I don't see it raising PS3 sales very much, as there exist cheaper players in the market.

People will go for the cheaper models I think.

The thing is, there was never a big debate about whether people buy the 360 because it plays movies or because it plays current generation games. With the PS3 on the other hand, there has always been that question, especially since it launched as the cheapest Blu-Ray on the market. The picture above gives people who poke fun at it for that more fuel.

It will always be higher then DVD retail price but I do see it going down after the holiday milkage :P

Anyone who bashes Sony for this is ignorant and would make a horrible business man? Please. The PlayStation 3 is last in hardware sold, last in software sold and Sony is not making a profit on the PlayStation 3, unlike Microsoft and Nintendo with the Xbox 360 and Wii respectively. Perhaps they are utilising the loss leader pricing strategy but if they are, it certainly isn't working out for them.
