I played it as a stealth game. :D

BioShockOwnz

you dont no nothing about the mgs series.....lemming. with out mgs ther wont be no splinter cell. was ther ever a splinter cell game ever to score a AAA? mgs is the king of stealth

Lulz, oh dear... *facepalm*

MGS did nothing for the stealth genre, well, except add convoluted narrative and nutty characters. Thief has always been far superior. I could understand if you never played a stealth game before MGS, though. MGS4 is an action game that likes to parade itself around as a stealth game.

MGS4 is a stealth game that gives you an option on how to kill your enemies. thats how true stealth games should be like, something liek that can never get boring and repetitive. you can beat the game stealthy, or you mite want to go all rambo, or beat the game without killing a single soul. with all the things you can do once you grab ur enemies. now thats freedom of choise. unlike splinter cell...."oops they saw me, game over"..psh get real man. dont try to bash a legendary seires like MGS to a splinter cell game

True stealth games should give you an option to go Rambo? That's the exact opposite of stealth. Am I really hearing this?

Of course the PS3 can handle Splinter Cell Conviction. Because it will be handling it when it most inevitably comes to the PS3. I mean Splinter Cell and Ubisoft do not have a good track record of concrete exclusivity, instead they have a very popular knack for timed exclusivity. I still remember my old roommate bragging to me about how SC would never come to my PS2.

Laughable discussion aside, I don't think anyone should've been surprised by this news. Were there people who thought the 360 was only capable of running this or something?

I think that's a little bit of an exaggeration. If I recall correctly Metal Gear solid was the first game to bring out the now commonly used behind the wall camera angle. It also was the first to use the making a sound as a distraction if I recall correctly. It has improved and changed with each iteration and has really made some epic 4th wall breaking boss battles such as the ones against Psycho Manits and the End. But probably most importantly, it made stealth game popular. It is no coincedence that after the success of MGS games like Tenchu and SC came out. It showed devs and publishers that stealth games can be a lucrative investment.

As for the whole action game or stealth game, Metal Gear is a combination of both. If people wanna noob out and choose the easiest difficulty level then they can get away with some running and gunning but when playing the game on normal settings or above you find that you can't even get spotted without getting screwed. It's attention to feature film type story telling is a huge thing it brought to gaming as well. Like it or not devs have found that gaming can be a serious medium to tell a story. Me personally I love story driven games and would rather watch action packed cutscenes then run from villiage to villiage reading TONS of text trying to piece the story together like most RPGs or PC story driven games did.

This is common knowledge anyway that PS3 has a bit more power on paper then 360.

Considering that pretty much every splinter cell ported to the playstaion has been a watered down version (except the first) im not convinced just yet.

Wait, so first you say MGS is a 'true stealth game', and then you agree with someone who rationally dictates that it's a mixture of action and stealth? You are quite the enigma.

Resident Evil 2 is a mixture of Survival Horror and Action but that doesn't stop it from being a True Suvival Horror game. It's just like that.

It's all in how you balance it.

It stops it if you combine two extreme opposite ends of a gaming genre spectrum and attempt to call it a 'true' entry into either one of them. That is self-contradicting.

Eh, during my college years I didnt really pay much attention to game releases or reseach them online. I didn't even know what a fanboy was, I just thought he was a nerd who really liked his Xbox. By the time it came out we weren't roommates anymore. It wasn't till the PS3 price point was announced and I started doing more research into gaming, which become more of an investment this gen. thanks to the rise in prices all around, that I found out that people argue over really really petty things in the gaming world. Honestly before coming to SW I thought the Xbox was outselling the PS2 with the way some of my friends talked about Halo.

Survival Horror and Action are two opposite ends. It's all in how they come together. Like I said, a "balance." If you add to much action to Survival Horror it loses the Survival Horror and becomes Action, like RE4.

It's the same with Stealth.

Maybe not "pure," but "true," yes.

One can only add a very little amount of action to a survival-horror before it stops being a 'true' survival horror game, and the same can also be said with stealth. The fact you can opt to go into a FPS-mode in MGS4 is where that line is crossed.

Have you actually tried to play the game in JUST FPS-mode. It's pretty much impossible because the level layout is not designed for you to JUST be in that mode. It was nothing more then a bullet point that Konami used to advertise the game. It's FP mode was used like a FP mode should be used in a stealth game, for accurately targeting your enemy. It's still a stealth action game and it's true to both. I mean some of people's definition of a stealth game is so strict I don't think any game would fit in it. By some of these people's definition if you got spotted once and didn't die its not considered a stealth game anymore. Stealth is just a tactic and MGS has many tactics in it's game. At the end of the day for me the only description about MGS that matters is "FUN".

Where did you see me state that it was not fun? I'm simply stating that to call MGS4 a true stealth game is irrational.

Well true since with the blu-ray I'm sure the PS3 can handle games that are also on other platforms. However, just cause it could work doesn't mean they HAVE to put the game on that console. Game developers/publishers, not sure if its one of them or both( I think its publishers), have their own right to decide which console they could make the game on depending on that console's sales. Not the hardware. Why u think the majority of games this gen are multiplat? I'll give u a hit: $$$

[QUOTE="Killzowner"] sorry but the game looks too dark and muddy. give me some Uncharted colors plz.Killzowner

Hmm, why is your name "Killzowner" then? That game is dark and muddy, even more the Conviction. *scratches head* Oh, this isn't on PS3. Right...

it is a little thing called Console Graphics King, for a reason of course.

That doesn't explain anything. It's still got a dark and muddy look to it. And you were implying like you dislike said look. I don't see any consistency here.

[QUOTE="BioShockOwnz"]

I have MGS4...

I have both AAAA games this gen. :D One is better than the other, as you can see, though. ;) MGS4 is a poor stealth game.

BioShockOwnz

 depends on how you played it.

I played it as a stealth game. :D

It's a stealth game. o_O;

so is MGS4 :), and that was Also Graphics King until of course Killzone 2.

So let me get this straight, your saying Conviction is dark and muddy, and talking up uncharted. Yet you go and point out Killzone 2 as graphics king? Which is by far the color muted and dark outta all these games. Yet, your clearly a ps3 fanboy, and not a good one at that...try harder.

there is a reason why ppl say Killzone 2 has beautiful Lighting, so lets not compare the gem that is Killzone 2 with another tom clansy game, because one is a Graphics King, and for good reason.

[QUOTE="Javy03"][QUOTE="Verge_6"] One can only add a very little amount of action to a survival-horror before it stops being a 'true' survival horror game, and the same can also be said with stealth. The fact you can opt to go into a FPS-mode in MGS4 is where that line is crossed.Verge_6

Where did you see me state that I believed that you believed it was not fun?? My post was mainly commenting on how I disagreed that the FPS mode is the thing that crossed the line in it being a true stealth game. To me the whole Motorcycle chase is probably where I would say the action part came out in spades and stealth took a back seat, however the whole part about trailing the guy before that was purely stealth. My comment on fun was just me describing how I think of the game and don't really care so much for all the labels, not accusing you of not thinking it was fun. However if you don't think it's fun then a pox on the Verge_6 household. LOL

Even I like PS3 more and I've gotta say that was weak... Killzone 2 does have great graphics, but it's color palette ranges all the way from black to brown... with some orange eyes... And Conviction looks dark and muddy because it's a dark game, the story is about a guy who has all but completely snapped after his daughter was killed... Why would he be running down a rainbow?

You implied it through remarking about it being 'fun'. Some portions of the game, when played in the FP mode, simply feel like they are pure action, and that is what stood out the most for me in terms of MGS4 not being a true stealth game. It appears what the most glaring reasons vary from person to person.

360 could run MGS4 if you wanted to buy a booklet of cd's for one game... i don't think it could handle KZ2 though mate... Not bashing I just don't think it has the specs and the power tapped yet... at least not yet
