Well i dont have GT5 so i never experienced such long waiting but still this is not the same as talking about multiple disks

waltefmoney

Taking 30 seconds to switch a disc > waiting 40+ minutes for a game to install. Got it.

the installation is optional

I'll stick with what I feel is the better experience 100% of the time. Heil68

Agreed, I also buy all my games on PC when I can.

SecretPolice

 Zing-a-ling-ding !!

OT - Yeah, freakin gaming PC's using DVD's to this day - so last gen. :o

:P

but ..but, this is PC, a 1 gb can trun into 10 using the almighty PC ..... and btw, PC gaming sucks, no wonder developers are shifting to consoles :P .

Edit: the game in question isn't even on PC, is it ?

Its good where it is optional but there is one game that kinda gets annoying. MGS 4. Great game. Its just a shame it has to take an install for every single level.

What are lems talking about? Are you guys crazy enough not to install your games? I install every game I play to my HDD. It runs quieter, loads quicker and gives your 360 a longer life. Me installing 3 discs would take about as long as installing to PS3 will take. Then I don't have to juggle around discs.

I'v neen doing this since the very start of me buying the PS3 so its no big deal and it never takes more than 10 minutes. still better than 20 disks for 1 game

finalstar2007

Name one game with 20 discs.

Just because i said 20 disks dosent mean there is actually a game that has 20 disks.. i thought it would be easy to catch.. this was more of me joking at disk swapping and which we all know the 360 still does.. not sure if wii has a game with multiple diks but no argument since wii is a last gen console.. dont hate me this is my sexy opinion

So as per what you said, the PS3 is the *only* true current gen console, since the 360 has a last gen feature, and the Wii is last gen altogether?

love the game but it was annoying having to do it multiple times. Its VERY strange cause i dont think any other game has installations quite like mgs4 :S

there is still a mandatory 0.25GB install for GT5. Averages out to about 2 mins so roughly 10 disc swaps not too shabby.

If youre saying mandatory installs are irrelevant to disc swapping youre wrong. Disc swapping is the downside of DVD-9. Mandatory installs which take considerably longer are the downside of the ps3 disc reader and blu-ray.

I think there is a difference between and install and disk swapping. Because an install is done only once and it isn't done during gameplay. Also installs are on PS3 because every unit has a harddrive. If X360 were the same way it would have installs as well because Harddrive;s area lot faster than DVD or blu-ray.

[QUOTE="Bunj84"]and FF13 fits into your idea of a better experience compared to what? getting beaten up by a hobo? it took me 40 hours to complete ME2. i swapped the disc once.when i had blade runner on PC it had 5 discs!!!! no one complained then!Heil68
Awesome..compare a game that was released in 1997 to today's games. Good job!

well, i havent been a PC gamer since then, so that was my only frame of reference. PC games were frequently on many man CD's or floppys, and it was OK. That was my point. What's changed since then? Is everyone 50 kilos heavier and unable to move to change discs? I'm obviously doing it wrong.

No comparison. You don't have to peel your ass off the sofa to install a game. Once you install you're done and can go on to enjoy the game to the very end. Disc swapping happens in the middle of the experience. You have to get up and do work. Anyone who would rather disc swap might as well go to the gym and lift weights.

why not? it's a current generation console, time wise, a last generation console hardware wise .... a very crappy console if you ask me.

PC: What's a disc? O_o :D

EmperorSupreme

This is the funny thing, the consolites all arguing over 2 obsolete formats and which BOTH have to be swapped out, just one less often than the other:lol:

I think it's funny to listen to people bash PS3 for installs then minutes later they are in another thread talking about how great steam is. I've been downloading the NFS games and Dragon Age all night.

Ah, those of the consoles do not understand the wonders of steam, thats ok. the difference with steam is you have one install, just like the PS3 BUT THEN YOU DON'T NEED A DISC, whereas the last gen PS3 has both ;) Hope that cleared it up for you.

personally, I can't stand swapping discs anymore. We should be beyond that. Yes I did it with previous systems but, I'm not using those previous systems anymore, I'm using current gen stuff. Most of mygames that have 2+ discs on the 360 will be bought on the PS3. I think the argument and defense of disc swapping is stupid by the way. If you don't have to swap, great, if you do have to swap, have fun with the game anyway. To tc: u mad bro?

Have to say I was leery about steam at first, but now its just so natural and amazing. Finding games for my 360 seems like a pain now when I rarely play it (esp as I have quite a few and often don't put the games back in the right case :P ).

You can get someone to switch the disc for you, but that won't be easy. It requires talking which consumes energy.

Having swap any disk at all is inconvenient which is one of the benefits of pc all your games installed on your hardrive and can play them all without having to go get the disk out of the case for every game each time i want to play which would be pretty inconvient given the size of my collection and how many games i am playing at once.

Lol. I knew someone was gonna take that seriously. I was being ironic. Still a big difference, though - my real point being that it disrupts the experience to a certain degree.

BUT! having a disk is advantageous in some areas. 1. You dont have a big net usage quota 2. You dont have the net period 3. Can take it to friends and able to lend! checkmate mr trampoline

So because a game isn't on the PC that makes disc swapping ok for playing different games but not when you're playing the same game? OK then.

Nop, coz the game isn't on PC, you shouldn't have brought it in the first place. comparing consoles to PC won't make it any better for the X360.

lol it seem like they didnt care when they had to do it on ps1

generalmyke74

Or when they had to install MGS4 4 times. That was totally OK, depite taking a lot longer than a disc swap.

Calling swapping a disc work is an knock on your own dignity. People around here need to man up but in all honesty what would you expect from a game siteshadow8585
Taking a comparison between swapping disc and going to the gym seriously is a knock on your own dignity. Just saying. lol

[QUOTE="EmperorSupreme"] I think it's funny to listen to people bash PS3 for installs then minutes later they are in another thread talking about how great steam is. I've been downloading the NFS games and Dragon Age all night. campzor

Ah, those of the consoles do not understand the wonders of steam, thats ok. the difference with steam is you have one install, just like the PS3 BUT THEN YOU DON'T NEED A DISC, whereas the last gen PS3 has both ;) Hope that cleared it up for you.

BUT! having a disk is advantageous in some areas. 1. You dont have a big net usage quota 2. You dont have the net period 3. Can take it to friends and able to lend! checkmate mr trampoline

But thats not the issue in this thread. The issue is that swapping discs is a horrendous experience from ancient days that should no longer be acceptable. if thats true then the same goes for ever swapping discs. No internet and other 1980's excuses simply reinforce the stoneage point :P

lol it seem like they didnt care when they had to do it on ps1

Or when they had to install MGS4 4 times. That was totally OK, depite taking a lot longer than a disc swap.

It wasn't ok, but a single game doesn't make a case either.

Keep reaching. We're talking about game format, not the games themselves. Now, go back to your console and play StarCraft 2... uh-huh

Bah! Quote fail! lol

So because a game isn't on the PC that makes disc swapping ok for playing different games but not when you're playing the same game? OK then.

Nop, coz the game isn't on PC, you shouldn't have brought it in the first place. comparing consoles to PC won't make it any better for the X360.

Again it isn't a PS3 vs 360 vs PC issue. If disc swapping is outdated then so are physical media altogether. You can't say swapping a disc every 10 hrs is last gen without accepting that swapping discs every time you want to play a new game also is.

[QUOTE="MrSelf-Destruct"]No comparison. You don't have to peel your ass off the sofa to install a game. Once you install you're done and can go on to enjoy the game to the very end. Disc swapping happens in the middle of the experience. You have to get up and do work. Anyone who would rather disc swap might as well go to the gym and lift weights. waltefmoney

You can get someone to switch the disc for you, but that won't be easy. It requires talking which consumes energy.

Exactly! Until games become internal imagery projected on the forefronts of our minds from the pits of our own subconscious gaming will involve much more work than is necessary. I mean, getting off the couch or asking for help cost energy, which requires food, which costs money. That's just not gonna fly with most gamers.

I agree consoles need to have much better DD next gen with every game being available and for handhelds it makes even more sense to have Full DD for every single game of course where not ready to go DD only on consoles and handhelds but the DD services on consoles and handhelds needs to improve.

[QUOTE="SaltyMeatballs"]PS3 fanboys don't like disc swapping because Sony said so! All previous consoles had this, but Sony said to not like it this gen.omho88
tech improves ..... bluray is couple of years old, disc swapping is decades old.

Yes, tech improves. PS1 had CD's and disc swapping, PS2 upgraded to DVD but still had disc swapping, PS3 has Blu-ray all of a sudden PS3 fanboys make a big deal about disc swapping.

I believe in hardcopies, the day this goes, will be the day I quit gaming, simply coz DD needs connection, massive HDD ..etc, Hardcopy is more conventient as gaming media ..... but as I said earlier, hard copies improve, CD>DVD>BR>?? ... so DVD is last generation is legit.
