PS3 In-Game XMB Gets Dumbed Down?

Did you hear that the PS3 in-game xmb got downgraded? it has drastically lower resolution and runs in sub-hd now after the 3.50 update. I'm looking for the link, will update if i find it. Why did Sony do this? I think to make it load faster. Notice it's only the in game xmb

seeing as the interface would run faster, what's the problem.

nor does an interface need to be HD. it's a flipping interface.

call me confused, but in-game XMb?

I think the real question is, why should we care? All I use the XMB for in-game is quitting the game, or shutting down the system...which takes 2 seconds then it's gone.

That was the last straw. How dare they lower the resolution of my interface :x
I've had it, I'm going to XBL where you at least get your money's worth and get a full HD interface :x
The nerve of Sony, the XMB was hyped graphics king and now they pull a stunt like this?

I want at least 1080p @ 60 FPS with 8x AA on my game icons damnit! :x

I think the real question is, why should we care? All I use the XMB for in-game is quitting the game, or shutting down the system...which takes 2 seconds then it's gone.

Look, one guy posted he heard about it, but couldn't actually find a link. Apparently he still hasn't as he never updated his post. I can't find ANY information about this, and no one else on the thread has ever heard of this before, or shown any source to confirm this... can you?

Finally, sorry to hear you lost use of 3 flash drives. Last I checked you'd be the only person on SW to lose 1, so please post up the make and model so we can keep some sort of list. Since Sony's aim was to eliminate counterfeit Dualshocks and unlicensed controllers, you should also probably notify customer support.

That is not the point. I respect your opinion, but why should we be happy with them lowering the resolution to solve the problem when simple optimization will do the exact same thing. This just sounds like a lazy company to me.ImprovedMind

Again, you're theorizing that a simple optimization was all that was needed. You have absolutely no information to support that. Kind of like we have no information yet that this is even true.

Fair enough. I imagine make and models would be enough, but since you're offering, pictures or video of the error message you're getting when using them would be nice as well, since we've had almost no one encounter an issue, it'd be nice to see what's happening.

And don't worry, no one will complain about posting to a thread a few hours old.

I'm no programmer, but I don't think downgrading the XMB visually would make it run smoother since it's just a bunch of icons anyway. I also haven't seen any differences in its look and speed before and after coming across this thread, so I'm calling BS.

I downloaded 3.50 the day it came out and I didn't notice anything different.

In fact im looking at it right now and still don't notice anything different...but I guess since the XMB is 'dumbed down' i better throw out all my games because the XMB doesn't look as nice anymore.

lol steam can run an ingame web browser with tabs all in 1080p as well as all the chat etc and ps3 can't even run a half decent web browser out side games or a hd ingame xmb. Ps3 really was hyped up for much more than it is. imprezawrx500
