PS3 is bombing in Europe much worse than anybody could have imagined

Why does anyone bash the PS3? 

 The Wii is destroying everything else.  EVERYTHING.  The 360 isn't even doing very well.  It's nowhere NEAR where it would need to be to be the market leader.  The Wii is DESTROYING everything.  As for the PS3 and 360, with the CLEAR price advantage the 360 has over the PS3, MS fanboys should be terrified that the PS3 is even selling as closely to the 360 as it is.  A year-and-a-half old console with its second generation of games already out, a handful of great titles, and it's a whopping $200 cheaper, and it's still not managing to sell very well at all, and it's barely beating the PS3 (if at all)...  that spells impending doom for MS, if you ask me... and you did.

Still, what you said was just plain stupid. The PS3 price in Europe is equal to something like $800 USD. With that kind of price, there is going to be tons of people who want one, but simply can't buy one. By saying "everyone who wants one, has one" is just plain stupid.

i never had a dog and i don't hate sony. i hate the things they do and the current bod (board of directors). example, they add something to the ps3 that is not needed and say it is (i'll let you figure it out), all the drm's and rootkits they put into all their media, the fact that you have to sue them to get them to do what's right for the consumer (ps2 dre's, anyone?), the sheer arrogance that made them go from being the number one company in consumer electronics to the poor bank. they still make excellent tv's and ce products but the ps3 is just a joke.

Their CE products are overrated, and their TVs aren't as good as their price would say either.  Samsung right now is doing an excellent job with their TVs, as well as LG, and Pioneer's new plasma is going to BLOW AWAY Sony's flat-panel LCD technology.

plasma panel sales have been tanking as of late due to the larger sized, low-priced lcd's. samsung has the best lcd line available and jvc has a better lcos implementation than sony does. sony does make great tv's however but they are overpriced. the avr (audio video receivers) are decently priced but are a huge joke to enthusiasts. sony has lost touch with reality and the consumer and if they don't turn it around soon, they will go bankrupt.

This is a pretty weak thread.  So you estimate ALL of Europes sales based on the HYPOTHESIS that the U.K. remains to be the same percentage of Europes sales each week????  Are you joking.  Then you ASSUME that the 360 and Wii sales remain the same because for some reason sales never go up and down, like in NA the 360s sales never go up or down??? Then to take the cake you estimate what you think the sales for the 4th week in the U.K. might be with these wild assumptions.  LOL...and have the nerve to say the PS3 is bombing.

I hate to wake some people up but selling 800k with no holiday push in ONE month is far from bad.  That is almost 1/3 of what the 360 did in over a year in Europe.  I love how people love to assume that all of a sudden sales will taper off...all the while MS just reduced their goal estimates to 12 million?? And people bash the PS3.  We are talking about a console that has a handful of games available and people think that sales will never rise as games come out.

Im sorry your not good at math.  Its all their.  I posted links to prove it.  Those sales add up to 800k WHICH SONY SAID THEY SOLD.  So why wouldnt they be very close to being right?  They cant be higher because it would go over which sony said they sold.

I hate to wake some people up but selling 800k with no holiday push in ONE month is far from bad. That is almost 1/3 of what the 360 did in over a year in Europe. I love how people love to assume that all of a sudden sales will taper off...all the while MS just reduced their goal estimates to 12 million?? And people bash the PS3. We are talking about a console that has a handful of games available and people think that sales will never rise as games come out.

Sony is losing to the WII in every territory, Sony is beating the 360 in Japan and Europe so far.  The 360 has NA only and Sonys sales are far from poor for a console that has been out for 5 months with a handful of games.  The 360 is far from dominating NA.

Not to ruin your buzz or anything, but while the Character models look pretty god, the textures and environments look really, really bad. And I really don't like how the whole game has the same color tint, like brownish grey.  I need to see some more color variety.

the green tint aside, that pic is jag city. the textures on the broken wall are subpar, his hair is low res, the environmental textures are all crap. if that's the best pic that mgs has to offer, i feel sorry for everyone that was expecting this to be graphics gold mine because it isn't.

:lol: dude your inability of comprehend this is absolutely astounding.  Everyone is laughing at you.  Lets get the facts straight.  We know for a FACT it sold 600k first week in Europ.  We know for a FACT in the next three weeks it sold 200k.   We know for a FACT weeks two and three of the UK.  I hypothesized based off this what the rest of Europe sold.  The total for the 3 weeks CANNOT GO OVER 200k.   You seem to not be able to understand that.  Its 4th week sucked based off those numbers.  Unless it did absolutely terrible in the rest of Europe....Its your choise.....Terrible 4th week for the UK or Terrible Europe numbers for the 4th week.

But that's not to say that this game looks bad. The character design is actually really good looking and detailed. Lets just hope some of the environments look a bit sharper and better, and also some lighting and color tint will change. Cuz All I see in most MGS4 screenshotes are urban desert towns with Brown and Grey everywhere.

the character model does contain medium-high polys and decent if not good looking textures. you could see sharp, triangular edges in the legs and arms however. the environments are truly crap (up close at least.) if view at high angles or behind the shoulder , a la resident evil 4 or gears, the textures are given the illusion of depth and higher-resolution. only an illusion, not that they actually are. they really should consider removing the greenish-grey tint. the motion of the game as well as motion blur should hide most of the aliasing issues. video stills and screen caps are really hit or miss. they can make games look great (mass effect) or like downgraded or like pure crap (mgs and the latest lair and hs pics).

Yeah its called momentum. Sony is just coming off the best selling console in history. They had momentum coming into this gen. The big issue is that Sony is taking steps to quickly kill off that momentum. Think about it, even the Saturn and the N64 sold very well at first before they started drastically losing sales.

The 360, on the other hand, is coming off of a relatively meager first console. They didnt have nearly the momentum that Sony had, and still sold pretty well. The big issue here is that MS is working on building a solid user base that will carry momentum into the next console cycle.

Despite ALL OF THIS NEGATIVITY, PS3 is on track to sell the same number of units as the 360 did during its 1st year. And it STILL has no killer ap yet. What do you think will happen when PS3 gets a price drop and releases its killer aps? Lemmings need to watch out!

points taken now here's my retort. the xbox 360 suffered a console shortage shortly after launch. the console did not become readily available until april. the xbox had it's shares of blunders. ever heard of dynasty warriors 5? that came was pure s---. and i would know, i was stupid enough to buy it.

the ps3 had less advertising because they thought they could sell the console purely on the name alone. remember the infamous "we can sell 5 million ps3's even if it had no games" comment made by sony? sony's botched e3 was their own fault. they showed off cgi trailers at e3 05 and tried to pass it off as in-game. when the truth came out and people saw what the games really looked like, they lost a lot of potential customers. once, again, 360 had it's share of craptacular launch window titles. the ps3 has no rumble because sony refused to pay immersion for the patent infringement case they lost. they tried to say "rumble is last gen" but then they payed immersion and let out small hints of rumble returning to the ps line. the ps3 is $200 more than 360 because of the unnecessary blu-ray drive. sony tried to kill two birds with one stone and ended up missing them both by a mile. the lack of achievements is sony's fault for not implementing it and making developers untilize it like ms did. what ever happened to sony's "entitlements"? no killer apps is the fault of the devs for putting out under-developed games.

sony will not sell as many consoles as ms did in it's first year. there will be no price drop anytime soon when sony is still losing $240 per console and is now considering selling an 80gb version (probably at a higher price). 

Listen lemmings.  I'm not a delusional cow.  This is the way it is based on the data we have.  PS3 is on track to sell as many units as the Xbox 360 did in its 1st year...and this is with PS3 having JUST LAUNCHED IN EUROPE IN LATE MARCH.  If anyone should be quiet about console sales it should be lemmings.  Let's get the facts straight....

Xbox 360

1) Had a mega-blitz of ads starting in May 2005 with MTV.  Was hyped beyond all recognition.  It had even more advertising than PS3 did before its launch. 

2) Had a steady flow of great titles in its 1st year.  GeOW, GRAW, PGR3, Oblivion, etc.

3) Had absolutely no competition except from last gen consoles. 

4) Had a good, solid E306. 

5) Has a few killer aps already

PS3

1) Had less advertising than 360 b4 its launch

2) Had a terrible, wretched E306

3) Has 2 current gen consoles to compete with

4) Already has mediocre software unlike 360 had in its 1st 5 months

5) Has no rumble

6) Is $200 more expensive than Xbox 360

7) Has no achievement points for games

8. Has no killer aps yet

Dude it doesnt even matter how the 360 did in its first year.  It was out for over a year before the PS3 collecting a lead nothing more.  All that matters now is IF the PS3 can manage to outsell the 360 on a week to week basis.  As we know now its BARELY outselling it.   The 360 has a 2.2 million lead on the PS3 at least in Europe.   With the way the PS3 is selling its going to take forever for it to outsell the 360 (If it ever does).  The 360 has additional killer aps coming also so I really dont see how thats going to affect it.  If fact additional killer aps could push people over the edge to get a 360.   I wont go into the Wii since we already know its outselling the PS3.
