PS3 is going to win this generation, and the developers seem to know it.

The Playstation 3...successor to the massive consoles, PS1 and 2, selling over 200 million units combined. In Playstation's history, Sony have received allot of 3rd party support from multiple company's such as Konami, Sqaure andRockstar. This is probably due to the earlier success when the company's chose to put their latest games on playstaion 1,due to reason such ashardware, in the case of final fantasy 7 for example, square supported Sony for the use of CD.

Fact of the matter is, Playstation has become the exclusive home of many 'system-seller' games, like final fantasy and metal gear solid. The Playstation 3 is no exception, with such exclusives. Anyway, the PS3 may be under pressure now, but it simply has to much support and potential to flop, keep in mind this system is likely to be around 6-10 years from now...

So, how can the developers see it? Well, your average current gen game can cost anywhere around 40 million pound to develop. And such company's like Square, Konami, Crytek, Rockstar, Epic, Insomniac, and Naughty dog simply wouldn't chose to put their 'eclusive projects' opn PS3 if they couldn't see money to be made from it, keep in mind they are a business. As a result, PS3 will build a fleet of system selling exclusive from trusted company's, we all know its killer 08 line-up.

Over its life span, PS3 will surely match the success of its predecessors with price-drops and exclusives. As for the competition, Microsoft already failed to create a good basis for the 360 with the medicore first xbox, only 30 million sales and mediocre first party support. The 360 seems a improvement on the first party support but it can't succeed in only America. As for the wii, lets face it, its a secondary console. people will soon have top buy another console to another console for a true current gen experience, not only that but6 its hardware is already outdated, this is really going to put people off in the next 3 years. I can't see wii living past 2010 as the system leader...

I disagree. Sega didn't know how to make consoles. DC was 1 year before PS2 and it still lost. Come back in 3 years and then we could discuss the PS3's succes rate.

SEGA were really short on cash when the made the Dreamcast- the Saturn had been a failure- since it was overpriced& complicated to develop for (cough PS3 cough).So SEGA then brought out the Dreamcast but at the time PS1 was HUGE virtually every1 had 1. crucially SEGA didnt spend enough money on marketing & the marketing they did do was pretty low key & crucially many ppl simply didnt know what a 'Dreamcast' was.

to stop SEGA winning- Sony kicked up its PS2 hypemachine- saying that it was 50x more powerful than Dreamcast, they showed amazing tech demos, they promised AOL on PS2 etc etc basically the tens of millions of gamers who mostly owned PS1s were won over by this & promplty stuck to Sony. Sony's smoke & mirror campaign had worked.

When PS2 launched demand far outstripped supply & SEGA was in deep financial trouble. despite having a lot of good titles with many games have superior graphics to the PS2 version- the Dreamcast failed & SEGA pulled the plug.

TC...devlopers are what make consoles win...so if the devlopers don't know the ps3 will win...then its a gonner..

I'm not going to argue with him either. Here are some FACTs that you are forgetting.

1) The PS3 does not have the same support as the PS2. There were at least 3-4 times more 3rd party support for the PS2, then what the PS3 has right now. There are a LOT of companies (Acclaim, SNK, Atari, Atlus, Working Design, Agetec, Disney Interactive, Hypnotix, Jaleco, Majesco, Titus, TDK, Vivenda, Crave Ent, etc..) that are not supporting the PS3 like they had supported the PS2. Many of these companies don't even exist anymore. This is a FACT.

2) Right now software is selling pretty poorly on the PS3. Some of it is due to user base, but a lot of it is just due to poor games and a lack of interest in the titles believe released. Games like Heavenly Sword, Lair, Warhawk, NG: Sigma, Oblivion, RS: Vegas are all titles that should have had solid sales, but most of these titles haven't or won't even break the 500K mark. Developers sees these figures and then decided not to make many games for the system. Many companies have already decided just to make 1-2 games for the PS3 and see how they do. Other companies are delaying their games many, many month until the holidays or after to release it because of the user base.

3) Fact, no one knows who's going to win this generation. The PS3 is losing ground every month to the Wii and XBox 360. They are expect to lose even more ground this holiday season as well. Sony will have to play catch up in 2008 & 2009 to get back into the race. Even the Wii's lead isn't a sure bet right now. The next 2-3 years will be crucial for all 3 companies. There is no clear winner at this time. That's a FACT.

The PS3 still have many solid developers and 1st party support, but no where near what they had with the PS2.

You're right there is no clear winner right now but ill be EXTREMELY surprised if the Wii doesnt win- its cheap, incredibly popular worldwide (Japan+USA+Europe) its sold the most units so far, its the fastest selling console to date & it doesnt even have that many AAA titles. demand for the Wii really will have to nosedive for the X360 & PS3 to win. even if Wii starts to sell only as good as X360 it will still win by a small margin.

He's saying only Square seems to think that way and even with the mass amount of finances giving to them from Sony they are even questioning their tactics. Which is not a good thing.

Gotta love the damage control in this thread.

Sure the PS2 took a little bit to take off but it wasn't getting pounded by the Dreamcast, it really didn't have that much competition.

MGS isn't a system seller, and FF is only a system seller in Japan. This holiday the 360 and Wii will do too much damage for the PS3 to make a comeback imo.

Yes, it's not over. The PS3 hasn't even been out for a year yet and neither has the Wii. It still way to early to say the Wii is a clear winner. The Wii doesn't have to nosedive that much for the XBox 360 to start to catch them. Once a system starts getting ahead 5, 6 or 7 million units, after being out for 3-4 years, is when a clear winner will be known.

It really hasn't hurt Microsoft that much either. Last week sales of the XBox 360 surged 17% and it's expect to rise even higher next week when Halo 3 is released. People who keep thinking that Halo 3 isn't going to help sell XBox 360's will be in for a rude awaking when the Sept NPD numbers are revealed next month.
