If your game costs $20-$30 million to make and you make it only for the PS3, you won't be making profit. Its sales aren't doing as good as they can, and it probably will not sell enough by 2008 to assure developers they'll make profit. If they don't make enough by 2008, then big developers won't support it anymore. The stronger Xbox 360 becomes, the more confident developers are making their games exclusive on the 360. Same goes for the Wii.I hope MGS 4 comes to PC. Hideo says hes liking the PC market more than the console market right about now. :D
Will the PS3 sell enough to make profit for games like MGS 4? If it doesn't sell enough then Kojima might consider making it multiplatform, and that's ONLY if it doesn't sell well. If big games don't make enough money, then I don't think any developer will ever make it exclusive. If Sony doesn't prove themselves soon, only 1st party titles will be exclusive on their console.

[QUOTE="GODFLESH_basic"]Unless Sony compensates the developer.ad1x2But paying third parties 10-20 million per title to keep it exclusive would be bad for business if the PS3Â is still trailing behind the 360 and Wii in sales.
Sure it's bad business to do this frequently, but not always a bad idea for a game that has the potential to be a system seller.
Gears of War, over 3 million copies, over $100 MILLION in sales cost around $10 million to make+$60million in marketing spam /Threadwalton13

[QUOTE="Redgarl"]It's impossible right now to imagine MGS4 being exclusive.walton13yeah your right, im sure it will be SO EPIC that in 6-7 Years when the PS4 is out people will still buy it for that system as well!
A game needs to sell about 500k for the game to start making profit. Resistance has already sold about 500,000. MGS4 should be able to sell at least a million by the time it's out and at least 2 million within about a year of it's release...

Did you just completely make that crap up? Show me a link where it says that a next gen game will break even at about 500k sold. If your going from a last generation link then you might want to rethink that. It takes a small fortune to produce a game this generation.

selling 2 million would give it at least a million dollars in profit, failing console my ass, it hasn't even launched in europe... It doesn't need to go multiplat, I'm not saying it 100% won't but I'm pretty sure you're just trying to convince yourself that it 100% will so you can play it on your xbox360...

50 terabytes? You do know that even if the sound was running at a ridiculously high quality 7.1 channel uncompressed 1.5mbps, 50TB would be enough to hold ~7 days worth (185 hours) of that sound...

If its true that making a game for one console actually costs you money then why are there any third party exclusive games at all? Think about it.echelonPS3 costs significantly more to develop for

It would have made sense wouldnt it?echelonSelling better? I have no idea, but you might be right. Irrelevant, however. The issue is whether or not the ps3 can actually generate a profit for 3rd parties... The 360 was able to generate profit for 3rd parties...the ps3 is more expensive for devleopers.

GoW cost 10$ to make (and im assuming here they are not considering the cost of the unreal3 engine, but put it in too who cares)
let me tell u another fact here, (from kutako and joystiq) lostplanet cost $20 mil to make and $20 mil for ads... can u honestly tell me that Lostplanet had more ads and parties than GoW???
yeah, developing the game took $10 mil, but advertising it took a lot hell more
I really want to see evidence of Resistance selling anything of the sort. I was under the impressions that Resistance flopped badly on the sales front due to low PS3 numbers. 1up even challanged Sony on the topic of Resistance being a sacraficial lamb sent to the slaughter. Anyway please provide URL to these sales figures...A game needs to sell about 500k for the game to start making profit. Resistance has already sold about 500,000. MGS4 should be able to sell at least a million by the time it's out and at least 2 million within about a year of it's release...

Honestly in this generation of gaming I don't understand why any non first party company would want to limit themselves to a single platform. It just doesn't make any business sense to me. But on the other hand I don't make games for a living so what do I know.CAlNlACIf I had a hit game and Sony or Microsoft drove a dump truck full of money up to my company to keep my game exclusive on their system, I would do it. Sure a game has the potential to move more units as a multi platform title. But it still costs the developers extra to make the second version and between that and a guaranteed truckload of money, I'd take the money. Of course that isn't necessarily how it works.

I think I want MGS4 at this point more for the symbolizm of it...Its kinda like when the Yanks got Johnny Damon...it was more cool to me because it hurt the sox so bad...Mgs is fair at best...MGS1 was amazing...MGS2 and 3 were in the PSCÂ period, which stands for Post Splinter Cell period...I like real stealth personnally not vampires with guns on oil rigs...colmusterd28I dont want the game at all. Just for the massive amounts of ownage and the hardcore cows that would dissappear.
I swear!!! You lemmings act like the PS3 should have come right out of the gate and sold 10 million in its first day, and since it obviously didn't, all their top exclusives are going to go multiplat. Please!!! The only reason it looks like the PS3 is doing bad is because the wii is doing so much better, and like someone has already stated, the PS3 is selling better than the 360 did this time last year, and it really doesn't matter if lemmings bring up the fact that the 360 wasn't readily available till March because the PS3 is still selling better and could possibly reach 10 million units sold in a lesser time frame than it took the 360 to reach 10 million, heck even the wii will reach 10 million in a lesser time frame. And that right there will show developers that the PS3 still has a very good following. And no I'm not a cow.
