The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 have a fairly comparable game library. Small differences do exist, though. Perhaps the widest gap is between the two systems' digital offerings.

That's where Jenova Chen, Thatgamecompany lead designer (Journey), noticed a difference. "Sony has a more artistic and adult-focused taste" Chen said in an email conversation with GamesBeat. "They care about how grown-ups feel toward their games."

"Our primary PSN audience is indeed more adult, and many of our best-selling titles appeal to this demographic," senior director of PlayStation digital platforms Jack Buser told GamesBeat. "Many PlayStation and PSN games have themes that require a user to think and feel about a deep, immersive gameplay experience, and we see that exemplified in the success of titles like Flower, Journey, and Heavy Rain. Titles like these can only be found on PlayStation, and our users enjoy the emotional and thematic sophistication of their games, especially with our digital offerings."

That's basically obvious. 360 is aimed at bro gamers who can't think of anything but shoot stuff and little kids.

Basically the same as when ND and Sucker Punch say their games can only be done on PS3. In other words, bunk.

They've made exclusive downloadable games for Sony on Sony's dollar. Where's the room for comparison? If Journey had sold far less on the 360 then maybe, maybe we could come to a conclusion, but it wasn't released there at all simply because Sony paid for the game.

However, what we can easily compare between the two systems is multiplat sales, and CoD is the highest seller on the PS3 as well as the 360. I'm guessing the demographics aren't so different.

Flower = adult focused ?

Heavy Rain is on PSN ?

I just poped in a parallel universe or something ? Someone call the Fringe devision :)

And BTW, Bastion that is a RPG is way better than any of those titles and far more "adult" oriented

Pretty much this. No one has mics. No one plays online. No one buys the exclusives. Inconclusive sales data. . . Could be purple and green aliens for all we know, the fact that no one ever hears you or sees you gives you the anonymity to claim whatever you want. How am I to know if the person I just played against is a jerk or a kid if they don't have a mic and don't communicate?

Ya know the "sound byte" title of this article kind of takes the article out of context in my opinion. Sony didnt say they're users are more adult THAN Xbox or Wii, but rather that most of their fanbase are adults.... and for that I dont see why this statement could cause much controversy.

 C'mon now. Heavy Rain was an immersive experience, but not for the tedious QTE, but for the story and decisions you make effecting the outcome. One of my favorite games of that year.

I'm sorry, Heavy Rain was fun but "deep, immersive"? Only high school kids/First year college students would think that. I would assume the PS3 has an older average as far as age is concerned, but the guy is really giving them too much credit. Then again, how many 360/PC games has he done? :P

It was more of a frustrating experience, and the poor story didn't help. The only time the game grabbed ahold of me was...
when I was in the basement of the crazy guy playing as the girl--won't lie, f*cking QTE events were pissing me off and I wanted to get the hell out of dodge.
The closest I can get to both is Dear Esther but that one fails on the immersive department. To me, video games fail at being both deep and immersive, they're either one or the other (Planescape and STALKER respectively being some examples). Then again, I've been spoiled by movies and actual good writing.

It's difficult to make a plothole-less story when every decision you make is changing the course of the game but I agree Heavy Rain could have benefited from a better script. Either way it has a better story than 99% of 360 games. Lems usually consider this to be deep http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccWrbGEFgI8 a homoerotic trailer of a brainless shooter with a nice song.

It dont matter, I'm just trying to figure out why would someone would seriously deny that Heavy Rain was immersive... ya know, the "deep" part I get really. But for me, Heavy Rain was almost as immersive as any console game I've ever played. And as for PC versus console, yeah, yeah, PC supreme, yada, yada.

PS3 gamers definitely consider themselves more adult, I'll tell you that. In a way every fanboy is like that:

Xbox - blood and gore makes me mature
Playstation - artsy and serious games makes me mature
Nintendo - gameplay and not caring about being mature makes me mature
PC - being able to upgrade my computer and have better graphics makes me mature

People are too hung up on thinking games must be "mature" to be art. It's kinda sad, the medium's artistic merit will go nowhere with this attitude. Being like movies doesn't make the medium more legitimate. Emphasizing the interactivity of video games will.

Agreed. However, I do think some QTEs do a good job of spicing up the narration. But ya, there's definitely a fine line lol

I hear ya... but I've also played enough duck and cover third person shooters to last me a life time. That's one of the reasons I enjoyed Heavy Rain because it was built around a different type of play than I normally play.

I think I was too focused on forcing my way through the bad dialouge, story, and QTEs instead of trying to invest myself into the setting and story. Probably why I wasn't immersed and ended up disliking the game.

funny how Flower and Journey were extremely simplistic games and Heavy Rain was a movie.

guess we have to head to PC to find games that are artistic AND challenging!

Agreed. However, I do think some QTEs do a good job of spicing up the narration. But ya, there's definitely a fine line lolydnarrewop
Indeed, even games like God of War overdo it, or a classic like Resident Evil 4. One or two of them in a game, and I'll let it pass. :P

 yep, adults lack the eye hand coordination to play games so of course bee-u-t-ful interactive experiences are all they can finish.
