Ps3 Owners going to need new Hard Drives soon with mandatory Game installations

lol so after ps3 owners buy DMC4, they have to wait 25 minutes to install it, and then have 5GB of thier hard drive taken away from them.....i thought console we're simply "put in the game and play" wth is up with mandatory installations?

Do all ps3 games do this? if so ps3 owners are going to have to get some new or larger hard drives quick.... i feel sorry for the people with 20 gig ps3's, thats 1/4 of your space taken by dmc4, MANDATORY.

Consoles really are becoming more and more like PCs.

Shouldn't Blu-ray eliminate the need for installation?

I don't think they needed to install the game, I think they chose to install the game to help preformance, games run better from the HD then from cd. It's to reduce loading times and such, it's a good thing to have, you can't do this on the 360.Eddie-Vedder

At least PS3 owners can buy ANY size hard drive they want if they need to. M$ forces you to buy their over priced 120 gig one. I can buy a 250 gig 2.5" for that price, or even better a 500 gig external and a sata to ide cable for my ps3.

LOL installing world of warcraft on my sisters laptop the othe day took like literally...all day. now lets not start talking about patches, lol

Yeah, late adopters of WoW have a long wait. I bought the game at release, took about 10 minutes with 4 disks.

Apparently it takes hours and has 5 disks now. That's extra content for you.

You must be a really asxxxxd guy if you think it takes 25 minutes to install data on the most powerful console on earth. LOL, it's soooo hilarious. By the way nobody bought the 20 or the 40 gig drive, and for those who did (rare), the PS3 hard drive is dirt cheap (laptop drive). Come, make us laugh some more, please !!!cramoisi

This is a bad thing because it dismisses the claim that the Blueray is needed in the game industry. If the content has to be copied to the hard drive that means that the developers have a maximum of 20GB to work with (to not lose customers who only have 20GB HDs), now because developers know that a player would want to play other games and store other content on their hard drives they will not exceed 5-10GB of content because the majority will not be willing to remove their content for a single game nor purchase a new hard drive.

They didn't explain the whole story at Joystiq, go figure. DMC 4 offers No Loading times after the install. Still, Your other topics are fine, but unlike other games you seem to compare, DMC4 will have no loading times...unlike our 360 cousin(Which also seems to have Tearing and other issues.)

I have a very hard time believing it's really that long. Even 5 minutes should be borderline-acceptable, but 25?. Hell, PSN takes 5-10 minutes to download patches (a 30 sec. task on Live, yes, even recently). PSN content downloads take ages, and don't continue in the background during as many things as 360 background downloads do.

Why is everything on the PS3 so slow?

Are you guys kidding me? It's to elminate load times almost altogether. If you're so impatient that you can't wait 25 minutes to play a video game then you probably have bigger problems to deal with.

If you're not playing a game, erase the installed files. If you want to play it again, simply put the disc in the drive and install the files again.

If Blu-ray means no disc swapping and an installation means virtually no loading times I can only say: Hell yeah.

There was a post about this on another website a little bit ago. For DMC4 you don't HAVE to install it to the HDD, but if you do it will eliminate all the load times in the gameChopperDave1

Well at least someone gets it. For needing new harddrives soon, I don't think so. Here is what I have on my 60 GB.

- 4GB of PSN titles (includes Warhawk)
- 2GB of videos
- 10 GB of game utility (updates, installations, etc)

and after all that I still have 36 GB left, keep in mind i'm rounding with the numbers but I have installations that are around 2 GB for games I just rented and I still have a ton of space left over. If people need more space just delete installations for games you don't play anymore.

Also theres only a few PS3 games that force you to install it for faster load times. The majority of PS3 games either don't install it or its a option.
