Ps3 Owners going to need new Hard Drives soon with mandatory Game installations

Pretty stupid argument against PS3 considering you can just delete installs of old games if you ever run low on space and it has nothing to do with your save. The cost is nothing compared to the streaming benifits. Lazy_Boy88

it also take 5 freaking gigas and 25 minutes of life, for simply make those loading times similar to the Xbox 360 version.

360 caches the game to it HDD as well, that is why when u get a 20gig HDD you can only use 13gb the other 7 is reserved for the console to cache extra data, so it is similar to the ps3 but the data is only temporary

Well I heard that devs have the ability to allow caching if there is HDD or not if there isnt a HDD. Maybe it was just Bethesda.

Yeah poor PS3 owners, it's not like we can just buy 100+ GB HDDs and swap them in easily. It's not like we can plug in any USB HDD and use that.

I wish I had to buy an overpriced, proprietary peripheral if I ran out of space. Poor me.

Installing sounds like a good idea to me, and would have likely been implemented on the 360 as well if developers could design a game without worrying about the Core/Arcade waste of a model.

We waited a year or so for the game. I think 25 minutes more isn't going to kill anyone. I can go home, set it up, take a dump, get something to eat etc. Better than being forced to wait staring at the screen between levels.

At least PS3 owners can buy ANY size hard drive they want if they need to. M$ forces you to buy their over priced 120 gig one. I can buy a 250 gig 2.5" for that price, or even better a 500 gig external and a sata to ide cable for my ps3.

true but both consoles are a joke with the tiny hdds that come with em. you can hardly buy a laptop now with a hdd less than 80gb and most have 120-160gb drives come on sony/ms where are some decent size hdds?

I have a very hard time believing it's really that long. Even 5 minutes should be borderline-acceptable, but 25?. Hell, PSN takes 5-10 minutes to download patches (a 30 sec. task on Live, yes, even recently). PSN content downloads take ages, and don't continue in the background during as many things as 360 background downloads do.

That's what frustrates mewith thePS3, took a half hour, and 3 restarts to bring a new system onlinea couple days ago, for Xbox it'sunderaminuteto get the latest update. Not that there is a lot of content on PSN, but when you do want something you have download which takes way longer, then wait again to install. Only thing more frustratingis that there is not demos for everydownloadable game like Xbox 360. Gives you a lot more appreciate for how seamless it is on Xbox 360.

Man this is getting absurd.

People on this forum are claiming that an optionnal installation is a bad thing. None of you guys have played the game or any game on the ps3 I'll bet. You're here venting hot air and strutting your stuf like you're the worlds gift to the gaming community.

Get your facts straight first ok.

Lot's of ps3 games have an optionnal installation. Something made possible because every ps3 has a harddrive. Devs have also already complained about microsoft who doesn't allow installs, because they have a sku without harddrive on the market.

Certain reviewers even think of this as a possitive element in their reviews. As loadtimes are short to begin with, (except motorstorm, I'll grant you that one) but get even shorter after installation.

Many games load as fast on the ps3 as on the 360, even without installing a chunk of gamedata. Call of duty 4 is a good example, but so is Assassin's Creed en the darkness. The Blu-ray reader is indeed slower than a dvd drive, but still more than fast enough. The bottle neck here isn't the drive but your available memory. 500 megs isn't that much, be it unified or dedicated.

And concerning games like dmc4 and burnout paradise, ps3 was the platform it was developed on, so the game will always have an edge on that platform. If we can believe the many previews for both games, which state the ps3 version has the advantage for once, then how can you be so ignorant that when you can make the actual choice you'll choose the inferior version?

All of you who are now crying "Oooh this is the reason I won't buy it for the ps3", wouldn't have bought it anyway, because you don't own one.

Stop being so amazingly stupid, please...
