PS3 slim out of stock everywhere

Calls to several San Francisco Bay Area retailers found that not only is the PS3 currently on sale, but it's often sold out. Employees at several GameStop locations said that they had received "extremely limited stock" of the console on Tuesday, all of which were instantly scooped up by customers who had reserved a unit.

"I think Sony's probably trying to keep supply tight, so it will be in high demand like the Wii and the PS3 were at launch," one GameStop employee told GameSpot. "We had less than a week's warning it was coming. We had reserves only open for two to three days, and the shipment only had 12 to 13 consoles. We don't know when we'll be getting our next batch."

As this shows the PS3 is going to do a killing in the sales.

I got a slim for BD only purposes and the original will be used strictly for games.

Gamestop near me said they had a few in stock, but I didn't buy from them.

I always thought backordered meant it was sold out, hm.

The official release date is September 1, that is why the stock is limited right now.

I called my gamestop (never shop there) because I was getting impatient with amazon, they said they had slims in. But they are shaddy, I don't know if they were just referring to old Ps3s.

am seeing a pattern here... PS3 fans stating its practically sold out in stores nearby while PS3 haters all say stores in their area are FULL of PS3's lying there with no one buying them... aahhhh SW !!!

well, to be honest, the slim isn't selling that much here in Europe. that's just how we r, we do not buy a slim if we already have a "fat" version. it is selling, just not as much in europe.

I personally hope this becomes a success because I'd like to d the see what MS and the big N respond beside competition is healthy for the market.

Not sure about "everywhere", but my Toys R Us had both the Slim and regular PS3s in stock last night.
