"The figure is three quarters of the total 220,000 UK launch stock for day one," But they still failed to sell out. The Wii sold out, they just didn't ship as many.SmashBrosLegend
True, PS3 is so damned expensive right now.
I don't blame the Brits for not buying every single console on shelves.
not sold out at launch = flop, especially considering the Playstation brand name you fanboys are always bringing up. Guess that brand recoginition isn't as strong as fanboys believe.PS3 UK Sales

You say "Let the damage control begin" as if it's a challenge, so I grudgingly accept. If any console had a massive amount of units available on day one, then it would be likely it would sell the fastest. This is because it is not a case of fastest selling - oh no, it is a case of vast availability. Most consoles sell many units at launch, so the more available, the faster they go.
so many of us Brits probably bought it because they're expecting to make money selling it on ebayakif22Having units on retail kinda stops people from putting it on ebay. Did you not read the article?

I live in the UK and my local shop got ten, and by sunday at least had sold the grand total of 0. Its understandable though, since I only live in a smallish town most people looking to buy one are going to look into going into one of the bigger local towns to buy one.
As for the rest of europe, according to this article in france 95% of PS3's are left unsold: http://www.playfuls.com/news_06689_PS3s_French_Debut_A_Total_Disaster_95_of_Consoles_Left_Unsold.html

yeah to fanboys like you..i guess we dont have to consider about the high price tag marked on the ps3.and sony made sure their wont be no shortages....if it was cheaper it will sell out no doubt about it.. you lemmings are lucky that ps3 is expensive if it wasnt the 360 will be resting in the grave already..

PS3's record-breaking debut for a home console comfortably beats the previous top seller Nintendo Wii, which sold 105,000 after its frantic launch weekend in December last year. Fellow format rival Xbox 360 racked up an estimated 70,000 at launch in December 2005.
PS3 FTW!?!

Apparently that was thier strategy - to actually have enough units on shelves so people wouldn't get frustrated and get a Wii or 360 instead.
They should have just launched it along with N.A. IMO.

It just proves that people are buying the PS3 and PSP because of the brand name, not because of games and such.

Just imagine how well they will sell when BIG exclusive games actually come out for them.
Were both the 360 and Wii sold out or where consoles left sitting on the shelves? Heck is the Wii still sold out there?PS3's record-breaking debut for a home console comfortably beats the previous top seller Nintendo Wii, which sold 105,000 after its frantic launch weekend in December last year. [QUOTE="mattyftm"]wait until official france sales numbers are released. too much propaganda on the internet. The way sony have anounced the sales figures for UK, but not for the rest of europe (includung france) suggests it may have not done as well there. 95% does sound like a bit of exaduration, but i doubt it did as well as in the UK.I live in the UK and my local shop got ten, and by sunday at least had sold the grand total of 0. Well it's a possibility. If you don't think there is a small chance that Brits are selling their PS3s like that, than you clearly don't know the economics of ebay ;) Plus it happens with all consoles.

True, it is a reasonable strategy. But with the 360 launch, it was completely sold out for months following the launch. If it had had say.... a million units available on launch day in the UK, it would have broken the record easily.

They might have. We will never know.
Anyways, launch numbers are almost completely irrelevant. You can't base your opinion on how a console is going to perform for the next 10 years based on ONE day of sales numbers. Heck, it's hard to base your opinion off of a YEAR of sales. You have to give it at least 2 years....
That goes for Sony fans, AND for Sony haters alike....
