PS3 UK Sales
PSP holds the record for fastest selling handheld and PS3 holds the record for the fastest selling console.

How many of those consoles are preordered. Its been readily available for preorder for weeks if not months. Sounds more like it sold that amount over a several weeks to a month ................ not just the weekend. If you can confirm otherwise, provide a link.............. otherwise don't bother.

And can you provide a link to how many of the Wiis and 360s were sold via preorder during their launch vs. waiting in line????I think it's time that lemmings and sheep face up to the facts. PS3 is gonna dominate next gen just like the last. It may cost more than 360 but it's a very well put together machine, looks sexy and is quiet, unlike 360 which sounds like a wind farm next to it. It will have God of war 3, MGS4, FFXIII as exclusives as far as we know, great games for sure. Free online and probably the largest selection of games in a few years.
I still don't own one, but I'm very tempted to get one while I have the money. Not for games that are out now, but for games in a year from now. I bought a Wii on launch day and I've only been bothered to play Zelda on it. So sheep can't argue with my logic. There system has no games either, same as PS3 yet people went mad to buy one.

The cheetah is the fastest land animal in the world... but it can't keep that pace very longer than a few minutes. Remeber all the hoopla in the US... that sure died down. Lets see how the month goes. Especially since there is no soccer game there. After all the diehard fanboys have one then we can see how it is selling.

If there is any system built for the long haul it is the PS3. I agree we need to wait before jumping to conclusions .[QUOTE="Danthegamingman"][QUOTE="xxThyLordxx"]not sold out at launch = flop, especially considering the Playstation brand name you fanboys are always bringing up. Guess that brand recoginition isn't as strong as fanboys believe. This is such an idiotic response. If MS ships 100 units for launch and sells out and PS3 ships 200 units but sells 150, who sold more units? Do the math!!!! Just because they didn;t sell out doesn't make the launch a flop.PS3 UK Sales

That's called damage control I believe no ???
The reason the PS3 has the sales record is because the 360 ship only 70k at launch and the Wii only shipped 105k. So both the others sold out in 1 day but the PS3 shipped 220k units for the launch. We can say that the Wii and 360 would have sold out if they shipped that much but that would be speculation not fact. I do think they would have sold a lot more then they did if the units had been there for sale. PS3 is doing good so far so all you fan boys need to crawl back under your rocks.PayDaMurdaMan
You can't say that the Wii and 360 would have sold out at launch if they had 220k units, because as you say, they didn't ship with that many. Anyone claiming they would have is simply making things up. The fact is, the PS3 is doing well. It's sold more units at launch than any other home console in UK history.
Just because it didn't sell out doesn't mean it's a failure, so anyone who believes this to be the case, please explain to me why? The PS3 has sold more than twice as many as the 360 supplied. Sony managed to exceed demand, menaing that not only did they have the most successful launch in history, anyone now reading about it can go and walk into the store and buy one. How is that a bad thing?
Why because of encouraging, yet not sold out sales in the UK? :lol:I think it's time that lemmings and sheep face up to the facts. PS3 is gonna dominate next gen just like the last. It's funny how the PSP does indeed hold the record for the best handheld launch...and yet...once the hype wore off...the DS kicked it's butt...
I have no idea if the same is possible with the PS3 but...

For Sony it's damned if you do damned if you don't. If they only provided 100k consoles and sold them all out the haters would talk about production problems and how the system is screwed. If they actually ship more than demand and have a successful launch and set records(like they did) then it's that the console flopped because it didn't sell out.[QUOTE="DilutedDante"][QUOTE="PayDaMurdaMan"]The reason the PS3 has the sales record is because the 360 ship only 70k at launch and the Wii only shipped 105k. Its understandable though, since I only live in a smallish town most people looking to buy one are going to look into going into one of the bigger local towns to buy one.
As for the rest of europe, according to this article in france 95% of PS3's are left unsold: http://www.playfuls.com/news_06689_PS3s_French_Debut_A_Total_Disaster_95_of_Consoles_Left_Unsold.html

Not at all, PSP had a darn good launch lineup with two games that could seriously move some systems..Lumines and Wipeout Pure, the problem came from the lack of software for months after and even then the PSP was pretty much matching the DS until the Lite was released. It just proves that people are buying the PS3 and PSP because of the brand name, not because of games and such.

weren't cows saying it sold 500,000 units on friday? heretrixIf by Cows you just mean InfamousC...yeah.

And in the rest of Europe? France? Poland? Spain? etc. But thats really quite an accomplishment, hopefully the sales don't drop to low. But i'm really more interested in how the software is doing.Adrian_Cloud
Oh I live in Poland. Our Country recived 1040 PS3 units. They sold about 50% of them. 520 units sold, I'm proud that thanks to us Sony will take the lead in numbers of consoles sold
pretty good figures considering the premium price, (WII was considerably cheaper) and with no advertisement what so ever.

Apparently you're wrong. "This makes the PlayStation 3 the best selling home console over the launch weekend ever, breaking the Nintendo Wii record of 105,000 units during the launch weekend. It also went past the Xbox 360 sales during its launch weekend, the Xbox 360 sold 70,000 units back in December 2005.
The only machine that still remains as number one is the PlayStation Portable, which sold 185,000 units during its launch weekend back in September 2005."

if you're a sharp cookie you'd realize all this means is something we already know -- Sony is improving it's supply chain. We all know consoles are sitting on shelves across NA.
Given the same supply the Wii and 360 would have broken Sony's balls in terms of sales -- that's a fact. They didn't have the supply to meet Wii pre-orders, just enough for 360, and for the PS3 pre-orders only accounted for just over 50% of sales, and many retailers still have consoles on the shelf.
The only possible good thing you can say about this, despite the attempts to give it a positive spin -- is this. 'Whoah, Sony, you shipped enough console to exceed demand big time -- you number one all time company for games'.
end of thread.

It would be extremely difficult to sell-out a shipment of 220,000 console, regardless of whether it was Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft.
Also lost among this discussion is that Sony debuted in the middle of March, not in the months leading to Christmas, which any reasonable person is able to see gave a huge advantage to Nintendo and Microsoft in terms of initial shipment sales.

Not at all. Wii and 360 preorders indicated they could have sold well over that amount on their launch weekends -- moreso for the Wii though.
Nice.
I dunno, part of me wants the console to do well because I do think it's the best out of the 3 and has the best games...
The other part of me wants it to do poorly so Sony realize it's just far too pricey.

But this was also in a time frame right before the holiday season when console sales are traditionally at their peak performance. I just think it would be insane to make this type of comparison given all the different variables involved (i.e. price-point, time frame, level of stock, etc.).Wii could easily sell out a 220,000 unit shipment, peopla re still lining up for itIt would be extremely difficult to sell-out a shipment of 220,000 console, regardless of whether it was Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft.

about as ridiculous as claiming it's some sort of sign that the console is in good health.
you can't take one side of this story without looking at the obvious flip-side.
[QUOTE="Alleluia_Cone"]Wii could easily sell out a 220,000 unit shipment, peopla re still lining up for it I wouldn't debate that, but the Wii is, after all, significantly cheaper: £179 vs. £425. That is roughly a $500 dollar difference, a disparity much greater than that in the United States. It would be extremely difficult to sell-out a shipment of 220,000 console, regardless of whether it was Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft.

I wouldn't think it a sign of good health, the first week sales are pretty much expected in my opinion. That kind of determination, of whether the Playstation 3 is a success or not, probably cannot be determined before the 2008 holiday season at the earliest. So far it has kept pace with first-year sales for the Xbox 360, which I find somewhat surprising since it costs more and is in a competitive marketplace, whereas the Xbox 360 faced no next-generation competitors for such a long time.[QUOTE="3picuri3"][QUOTE="Alleluia_Cone"][QUOTE="3picuri3"][QUOTE="Alleluia_Cone"]It would be extremely difficult to sell-out a shipment of 220,000 console, regardless of whether it was Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft. the 360 also had significant supply issues for up to 9 months after launch in certain areas -- the Wii also had these issues, and continues to have them to this day.
i agree that we're going to have to wait for months, even years to get the full picture .... but one fact remains. given adequate supply the 360 and Wii would've broken Sony's balls in terms of sales -- taking a look at pre-order breakdowns from different retailers paints a pretty clear picture.
