They are not triggers.

R1 is the one true shoot option, its been that way since before the PS2.

Why change now for 360 fanboys.

R1 >>> R2

Yeah, I agree. I remember playing Borderlands for the first time and it defaulted to R2/L2 for shoot/aim. I quickly had to change. Also, I've always liked the feel of cooking grenades with R2 and L2. I don't have any problems with either controller though (besides missing USB recharging on the 360 controller, but if it was that much of a problem for me, I could pay to fix it lol).

Nay, but Real Triggers fixed the problem. The controller still feels flimsy to me though.

dvalo9

the real triggers are better than the default 360's. but the 360's are way better than default r2+l2.

I think the default 360 triggers are perfect. The Real Triggers feel like exactly what they are- clip ons. But they do the job.

they're fine...i like the 360 controller better, but that's just preference, and the DS3 triggers are perfectly useable.

The triggers aren't the best. Ive tried the real triggers but they didn't make that much of a difference to me. I can deal with it though. The nyko core controller and nyko raven have nice triggers like the 360.

They suck. It's really irritating when a game uses them instead of R1/L1 for shootingParasomniac
Yeah, I hate when devs make that the only option because they are too lazy to either flip the buttons or give an option to do so. It really hampers my enjoyment of game, I can't even finish BioShock because some ass hat over at 2K thought it was a great idea to map the plasmid and shoothing actions to the R2/L2 buttons and make that the only control option. The Mafia 2 demo pretty much confirmed that I won't be getting it because of the controls. Yeah I'm pretty much not wasting my money on any 2k game from now on. I honestly don't see what's so hard about adding an option to use the R1/L1 buttons instead of the R2/L2 buttons when porting games to the PS3, it can be done in 5 mins max.

On topic you guys would be voting nay for PS3 triggers then :) Triggers are analogue and meant for greater control, buttons (such as R1 or RB) are meant for on/off control.

For FPS, on the X360 I can see they use the trigger because of their location on the controller. For the Ps3 I have no idea why games default to them. A gun doesn't need an analogue control, can acceleration does. :)

So forget FPS and answer like you're playing a driving game

Thats the point. R2/L2 where not meant to be the main fire and aim. They are meant as support buttons (like cocking grenades or alternative fire).

For the PS3 it was meant to keep R1/L1 as the main shot and aim buttons.

Like it should be.

[QUOTE="1stPlaceWinner"] whats your psn idlamprey263

I don't think you need a PSN ID to know the controller.....especially when the dualshock 2 gives you 90% of the experience...

otherwise,(ignoring a few opinions here) the 360 isn't too great for D-pad and the battery pack. how the battery pack protrudes at least.

your fingers go absolutely nowhere near the battery pack, why should that matter?

What the hell are you talking about, my fingers are always bumping into the battery pack and I have medium sized hands. :|

Both the ps3 and 360 are flawed, but they still beat 3rd party.

The triggers need more to be more sensitive and spring-up slower than what it is now, bigger handlebars (there so tiny not even my small hands can grip). The sticks are too high, should be stubbier and grippier.

D-pad and abxy ( square, circles) buttons are great, imo.

The "triggers" are awful, which is why hardly any shooters on the PS3 use them for aiming and firing (like they should be). Makes the control scheme of most PS3 games awkward while their counterparts feel more fluid on the Xbox 360. I suppose the PS3 triggers = Xbox 360 Dpad.

Nay, but I'm used to them. I don't have problems with them, but I prefer using them less compared to the 360's triggers. Only because in shooters, it's weird. Sure R1 is the better solution, no problem, but having to use it for something else like secondary fire in Resistance was annoying.

Ahh there you go, see that's exactly how I hold my PS3 controller so I'm used to pulling the "firing" button with my index finger but in order for me to replicate the same action on a 360 controller I have to move my fingers down which leads to my middle fingers bumping into the battery pack.

Actually there are a few things I find worse on the DS3 than its 360 counterpart; the weight is too light IMO, Dpad is the least ergonomic thing in history (I'm getting calluses on my thumb thinking about it - its not 1994 anymore Sony) and the triggers. 360 on the other hand has the awful Dpad, but replace it with the Sega Saturns and you'd have the perfect control pad.

I can't hold my PS3 controller like that because the little grippy horn things are to small. I just hate the PS3/2/1 controller in general. Tiny, and the two thumb sticks right next to eachother is extremely uncomfortable. I wish they'd get rid of it, it was okay compared to its competition when it was designed, but now it just sucks.

Thats the point. R2/L2 where not meant to be the main fire and aim. They are meant as support buttons (like cocking grenades or alternative fire).

For the PS3 it was meant to keep R1/L1 as the main shot and aim buttons.

Like it should be.

nah, it's much more sensible and comfortable for the trigger buttons to be in the back.

No, your index fingers more easily align with the R1/L1 buttons on the DS3. So they should cover the primary actions (aiming and shooting)

not for me, i still prefer them to be in the back. i was playing uncharted 2 this past weekend and it was annoying and uncomfortable for me to use the R1/L1 to aim and shoot. obviously i got used to it after a while but i would definitely prefer to use the R2/L2 buttons if they weren't so crappy on the DS3.

Your fingers can slip off of it so ... Nay. I'm no fan of X360's either because you can really hear the spring - sounds very cheap.

CAPSROGUE
My fingers would slip off of the triggers the first few times I played it, but it's really a non-issue if you don't use them as the main buttons. The only game it was a problem for me was in Burnout: Paradise. I'd rather have L1 and R1 as the drive and reverse than L2 and R2 .

They are not triggers.

R1 is the one true shoot option, its been that way since before the PS2.

Why change now for 360 fanboys.

R1 >>> R2

dercoo
The different control schemes suit both controllers. I never understood how the DS3 is crap just because the trigger buttons aren't very good.

not for me, i still prefer them to be in the back. i was playing uncharted 2 this past weekend and it was annoying and uncomfortable for me to use the R1/L1 to aim and shoot. obviously i got used to it after a while but i would definitely prefer to use the R2/L2 buttons if they weren't so crappy on the DS3.

I'll have to agree with dercoo. I don't know how anyone would find using the back pair of shoulder button/triggers to be more comfortable or accessible than utlizing the front pair (which is more aligned with your index fingers than the former) for primary functions. In reality, you should be able to utilise both index and middle fingers by having the triggers located at the lower back of the controllerfor secondary functions. That would make for a better design than these current design.

Mostly the same except I have my index on the bumpers and middle fingers on the triggers.

Ahh there you go, see that's exactly how I hold my PS3 controller so I'm used to pulling the "firing" button with my index finger but in order for me to replicate the same action on a 360 controller I have to move my fingers down which leads to my middle fingers bumping into the battery pack.

I have a 360 pad right besides me and when I hold it my fingers don't touch the battery pack...

It's about freedom and giving us the ability to stretch out are fingers. Having a big battery back stick out like that completely restrict your fingers' movement. Just thinking about it annoys me.

I didn't know the Xbox controller was original and unique. I mean, the triggers, of all things, were, but they weren't bad.

it didn't really do anything differently than that:| so sure.......I'm sure that boomerang controller would've outclassed it in crappiness though. a feat of its own.

the battery pack restricts absolutely NOTHING. have you used a 360 controller before?
