[QUOTE="PurpleMan5000"]If developers would actually make trophies and achievements mean something, like credits toward DLC for the game (Platinum should unlock all DLC), maybe people would keep playing their games and not trade them in to Gametop. Just saying. . .AmnesiaHaze
that was exactly my idea , trophies arent a bad concept but there is no real reason to get them at this point , if there was the option to turn them off i'd do it on my console because it just looks like all my games are incomplete even after i spend 200+ hours on some of them (just not the way they want me to) , giving some kind of rewards for lets say each 100 trophies would definitely make them more attractive for a larger player base and maybe indirectly lowering resalesdevelopers do have a purpose for trophies, YOU just don't like them. It rewards people who like challenges. Theres plenty of people that are completionists at heart and actually like the thought of challenging themselves beyond beating the game and developers give them some more things. if i ever see people who platinum a game like demon souls has to be given more praise for getting a platinum trophy. it shows the skill it takes as im sure just going through the game and beating it is enough of a challenge, doing extra to get platinum is epic.
There are also people (like my sister for example) who don't play the games the way they are supposed to be. She would play God of War 3 without collecting chests for example. why? i have no idea, but there are gamers like that which the trophy system caters to.
your idea that you get a hundred trophies for just simply playing the game is not challenging and it diminishes the value of the whole trophy system. there are trophies that simply unlock by beating the game and going through story modes tat are unmissable.
personally this has actually increased the replay value of my games. ive played games until i beat it & i didn't care for trophy system at all. Seeing my trophy count on a game however bothered me just as you said, so i decided to get some trophies to make my dedication to one game reflect my trophy count...and there i go playing the same game ive beaten, getting challenged, and it made it fun. eventually i got 2 platinums cuz i didn't like how other gamers were getting a lot and i had a big fat zero.
all in all, trophies and achievements have their place in gaming, just like theres a place for difficulty levels in games. those who want the challenge can, but to those who don't, theres always normal mode. so if you don't like the trophies, its fine, but pointless to you doesn't mean its pointless to everyone
