seriously , there is no real reason to get them except moving a progress bar and increasing a number in your player card , they could give us something for trophies like exclusive avatars , contents etc. based on your player level , what do you think ? is there currently any reason to get them except of obsession? what would you do to give trophies a real reason?

so how come you don't call out 360 acheivements (which happened first before trophies), also its a dumb thing to complain about, they just come with the game you can just play the game and not care about trophies.

They're all pointless yet developers stride to implement them for some reason... I guess it's nice to have a record of how well you play a game, i just wish there were more trophies for replay value... Once play through is usually enough for 90% of games.

They add replay value and give a sense of accomplishment. With 20 platinums on PS3 and 3 or 4 100% on 360, I can attest to both those statements. If you don't see the value in that, then oh well.

End of discussion(before the trolls come out of hiding)

At the start of the gen I'd try to get all the achievements in a game so it meant I got more use out of a game. They got boring after a while though.

Certainly...So are achievements. I still find them enjoyable to get, though.

Some don't consider a game truly "beaten" or finished until they've obtained all the trophies. It helps extend the life of the game. I personally think that some of the trophies are complete garbage, but that's what some people believe.

If developers would actually make trophies and achievements mean something, like credits toward DLC for the game (Platinum should unlock all DLC), maybe people would keep playing their games and not trade them in to Gametop. Just saying. . .

Well keep in mind that Sony and MS gives free hand to developer for rewaring players in-game for achivment. For example in FFXIII you been able to unlock themes for XMB by achivments, i bet you would find other examples on both consoles

that was exactly my idea , trophies arent a bad concept but there is no real reason to get them at this point , if there was the option to turn them off i'd do it on my console because it just looks like all my games are incomplete even after i spend 200+ hours on some of them (just not the way they want me to) , giving some kind of rewards for lets say each 100 trophies would definitely make them more attractive for a larger player base and maybe indirectly lowering resales

Uplay doing something like that :) For example you unlock knite character in AC:R MP by uplay points from specific achivments + you can use acivemnts from other uplay games to unlock content in specific one. And yes this is another example of what i was saying above

Yeah, you can unlock things in all of the AC games by getting achievements. You can even use your points on other games that use UPlay that aren't Assassin's Creed. It's a great system. For all of the flack UPlay gets (deservedly so), it does do a lot of things right.

Agreed, achievement and trophies are just worthless and people just farm them to increase their e-penis. I wish they all had a system like Uplay where points actually matter. Except of course without Uplay itself because that draconian DRM is the worst of the f*cking worst.

Everything is pointless when you put it that way. Why play a game and finish it?Its not like you get any money or awards for it. Whta's the point? Is there any reason to even play and finish a game? You WANT something? How about the simple satisfaction of a challenge and accomplishing said challenge?

They are forced to. Trophy and achievements in games are mandatory with both Sony and MS development. A developer cannot release a retail game on either system without them.

developers do have a purpose for trophies, YOU just don't like them. It rewards people who like challenges. Theres plenty of people that are completionists at heart and actually like the thought of challenging themselves beyond beating the game and developers give them some more things. if i ever see people who platinum a game like demon souls has to be given more praise for getting a platinum trophy. it shows the skill it takes as im sure just going through the game and beating it is enough of a challenge, doing extra to get platinum is epic.

There are also people (like my sister for example) who don't play the games the way they are supposed to be. She would play God of War 3 without collecting chests for example. why? i have no idea, but there are gamers like that which the trophy system caters to.

your idea that you get a hundred trophies for just simply playing the game is not challenging and it diminishes the value of the whole trophy system. there are trophies that simply unlock by beating the game and going through story modes tat are unmissable.

personally this has actually increased the replay value of my games. ive played games until i beat it & i didn't care for trophy system at all. Seeing my trophy count on a game however bothered me just as you said, so i decided to get some trophies to make my dedication to one game reflect my trophy count...and there i go playing the same game ive beaten, getting challenged, and it made it fun. eventually i got 2 platinums cuz i didn't like how other gamers were getting a lot and i had a big fat zero.

all in all, trophies and achievements have their place in gaming, just like theres a place for difficulty levels in games. those who want the challenge can, but to those who don't, theres always normal mode. so if you don't like the trophies, its fine, but pointless to you doesn't mean its pointless to everyone

wrong, they are fun so there is a point.

i only wish my ps3 trophys accurately reflected the games i have played on the ps3 like my achievements do on the 360.

too bad sony did not make them standard until what? 3 years into the gen?

They are pointless in most cases. I think more devs need to use them to unlock in-game items as well, like armor in Halo 3 or skins/characters in Gears 3. Sometimes they give you gamer pictures too, which I guess is a small addition. I do like achievements though. They give me a reason to play a game again on the hardest difficulty, or to play it in co-op. Sometimes that extra playtime is all you need to discover that you like the game even more.

It's the high score equivalent of the modern gaming era, and obviously not everyone will care about it just like before.

I agree. What I'd like to see for next gen:

* Trophies/achievments/kudos/whatever they want to call them are attached to a code that comes with a new copy of the game.

* This code unlocks the trophies, which in turn give you points/online currency.

* This currency can then be used to buy user created content, a la LBP, but more complex and built into the system.

I think this would make new sales more appealing to gamers than any code for MP content, and it also wouldn't make developers think they need to shoehorn a MP component into the game just so they can add a code.

The attaching of real value to trophies would mean that developers would probably start putting some more creativity into them. As it is now, there's two kinds of trophies, automatic (when you do something you have to do in game) and ridiculous (having to grind forever to get it). There aren't many that are based on doing something cool or challenging. Some games do this, but not enough.

youre so right , trophies need to be better intyegrated into the actualgames providing at least some unlocks like exclusive skins , weapons , etc. in the game , the bragging type of players would love it for sure , in other words a reason to try to get them and keep games longer , the almost impossible to do and grinder type of trophies arent even fun in most cause the reward is lacking

I think Sony has a pretty good opportunity to tie rewards to trophies, since Microsoft apparently hates the idea.

Man having a 41K Gamerscore, I dont really gain much from it, a few meh rewards. Eh, who cares.. THo I like the collecting them.
