PS3 trophies are pointless

I really like the trophy system. It's a way of showing off to friends how hardcore I am with games. :P Also it's just show what I have achieved. There are some moments when I want to check out someone's profile to see what he have achieved in the game I'm playing, so it's good to have trophies.

When I check out my own profile with lots of trophies, I do get the sense of achievement. I like it. Honestly, I think unlocking game contents and stuff from it is ridiculous!

if thats the case then so are achievements so yes of course they are pointless just like getting high scores in games, just like getting to the ending of games, and just like playing games is pretty much pointless beyond an entertainment standpoint.

seriously , there is no real reason to get them except moving a progress bar and increasing a number in your player card , they could give us something for trophies like exclusive avatars , contents etc. based on your player level , what do you think ? is there currently any reason to get them except of obsession? what would you do to give trophies a real reason?

I've always thought PS3 trophies were pointless.  I'm in the dark here but do 360 achievements actually unlock things like special avatars?

I suppose there are some limited bragging rights involved with trophy hunting, but then again is that really something you want to brag about?  I've never platinum'ed a game, but I've come close on a few.  The remaining trophies are just too much of a pain in the ass to get or require more playthroughs than I'm willing to do. 

I know I'm going to catch some hell for this, but whenever I see a sig that has more than a few platinum trophies in it I automatically think "forever alone."
