I have a PC and a PS3 so I don't really see how I would be shaken up. This is just in relation to downloadable games not getting proper merit on this board. When one scores well people just say "lulz doesn't count"Uh-oh...Journey scoring a 9 here on GS has really shaken up SW.

I would take stuff like Braid or Super Meat Boy over a lot of 60 dollar games. So I never understood why the smaller games didn't count. Hell the best part about PC gaming is the indie scene. Don't know much about Wiiware/DSware stuff. jg4xchampWiiWare doesn't have that many worthwhile games (Cave Story aside), even less so with DSiWare. I hear the 3DS downloadable games are a bit stronger, though.

Undercover one.
I thought it was agreed they did count, just not as much as retail exclusives in most cases. Hence the later inclusion of XBLA, PSN, and WiiWare games into the spreadsheet (I'm sure it used to be just the consoles and PC with no downloadable titles)

And when games are now offering 5-6 hour campaigns with additional content on top (Shadow Complex/AWAN to name but two) it's getting pretty silly, especially when XBLA (i don't follow PSN) has continuously pumped out solid titles.
Yep. It's not as if standards are equal across genre either - you wouldn't directly compare Heavy Rain to Final Fantasy, yet according to the spreadsheet - you do!They should count on ALL systems, even handhelds. There's no reason at all for them not to count.

Then why do people hold so much stock in the metagame, if the actual criteria that defines it is fuzzy at best? I'm not overly fussed about it - but others are. As I said above, a sports game isn't held to the same scrutiny as a puzzle game at retail. And downloadable titles - much like retail titles, vary in content/quality so it's not as though this is some unique standard dividing the two. They're separated because they're held to different standards. A $5 or $15 game just isn't held to the same level of scrutiny as a $60 title. That's not to say you can't enjoy the former more than the latter though.
On PC they're counted just because it's a hassle to separate them given the nature of the platform. Not the best reason, but that is why.

Why do "standards" really matter though? A quality game is a quality game.
I don't see how price point really makes it that much harder to count something in an overall metagame.

And GS themselves say that. We're talking about 7-8.0's above here, it shouldn't be so picky to define what is good on a system, and what isn't.Reviewers don't hold themselves to those standards though. Some take into account the lower price, and some don't. As Raven said, they don't hold game genres to different standards, so why should they pick on price differences? They're separated because they're held to different standards. But if they're already counted that way for the PC, why not just have consoles follow the same method? It's misleading to have the PC's library consist of full retail games as well as $5 downloadable games and consoles have their downloadable games segmented off and basically not count to most peopleThey're separated because they're held to different standards. Na, different standards. Sure games like Journey and Bastion are so amazing they make us feel that way, but there are a lot of decent arcade titles that score around the AA mark that are lightyears behind regular 60 buck retail AA games. It's just different standards.
Count them, but in a different category.
Just an example, Outland for the 360 is AAA, is it really equal in caliber to something like Gears of War 3 or Forza 4? No, not even close. It's a diferent category. If the game cost 60 bucks it would never have scored that high.
Eh, i don't care, console wars are SOOOOO last year. Now its all about the handheld wars :Pbbkkristian
Hell no, I prefer console wars..

I wasn't under the impression that Journey was out yet for anyone to formulate that opinion.
Except blind cows of course.
Poor Slashless always so mad. Also TC, those games shouldn't count on the PC list, someone messed up. Arcade games have never counted, for any platform, that whole SW spreadsheet is meaningless nowadays, it's been tampered with too much.Poor Slashless always so mad. The Admins should really Wordfilter the word Mad so it turns out as "I'm a poor troll and should stop posting" Because, that's really what's showing right now.

Like recently Dear Esther received an 8 and counts as a AAE for the PC library and it's a $10 game (a very good one at that). Journey will be sub sectioned into the irrelevant PSN section and will basically not count as a quality game for the PS3. Same goes for 360/Wii digital games. This would just be eliminating a double standard between platformsI think they should count, even though it´s a lot harder to diferentiate them on the PC,since DD is for many devs the main publishing method and it doesn´t mean they´re somehow "inferior" games just because they´re DD.
The market is just like that on the PC these days.
In general,I think it´s easier to make everything count,it´s much less confusing if you ask me,not to mention a lot of those games are just as good or better than other "big releases".
