So after playing MAG for some time now. I can say that even games like Resistance 2, and MW2 are better online shooters.
What's so bad about MAG? Nothing in particular. Just about everything is generic FPS fare. For one, I found the controls to be very sensitive, and difficult to keep in line, even after messing with the controls. It does not have the responsiveness of say, COD, or Halo, or even Killzone... which is hard to imagine.
The classes are... boring. Sure plenty of weapons, and gadgets and upgrades keep the game fresh. Not really a negative, but not very exciting.
It is perplexing to me, that while you shoot at an enemy, you can't see what you're shooting at, unless you use a zoom weapon. The recoil, and the muzzle flash makes hitting an enemy more of guess where he was when you aimed, and pray he doesn't move because you'll keep shooting thinking he is there. This problem affect weapons with iron sights, and alike. It's just weird.
The 256 player matches do not feel like 256 player matches at all, because of squads. the game never feels big scale. The maps are big, there are tons of players, but there is just something missing. And the gametypes are not very exciting. The whole game has that Counter Strike Source feel to it... except like it was made by Midway, and not Valve.
The graphics? Well, they are not that bad as some make it out to be. But they are definelty something that the PS3 would produce when it was launched. Not the best.
The full price admission for a MP only game is hard for me to swallow. Maybe if was $29-$39, fine, but in this day and age even great MP-focused games like COD who prefer the MP have at least a fun, if not short SP experience. To me, MP only games are a big no. Hence why Unreal 3 wasn't popular on consoles.
Is it a decent shooter? Yes.
Does it have potential? Maybe.
Is it better than Bad Company 2 Beta which I'm playing now? No.
COD: MW2? Not even close.
My final prediction is 7.0 on GameSpot.
