So after playing MAG for some time now. I can say that even games like Resistance 2, and MW2 are better online shooters.

What's so bad about MAG? Nothing in particular. Just about everything is generic FPS fare. For one, I found the controls to be very sensitive, and difficult to keep in line, even after messing with the controls. It does not have the responsiveness of say, COD, or Halo, or even Killzone... which is hard to imagine.

The classes are... boring. Sure plenty of weapons, and gadgets and upgrades keep the game fresh. Not really a negative, but not very exciting.

It is perplexing to me, that while you shoot at an enemy, you can't see what you're shooting at, unless you use a zoom weapon. The recoil, and the muzzle flash makes hitting an enemy more of guess where he was when you aimed, and pray he doesn't move because you'll keep shooting thinking he is there. This problem affect weapons with iron sights, and alike. It's just weird.

The 256 player matches do not feel like 256 player matches at all, because of squads. the game never feels big scale. The maps are big, there are tons of players, but there is just something missing. And the gametypes are not very exciting. The whole game has that Counter Strike Source feel to it... except like it was made by Midway, and not Valve.

The graphics? Well, they are not that bad as some make it out to be. But they are definelty something that the PS3 would produce when it was launched. Not the best.

The full price admission for a MP only game is hard for me to swallow. Maybe if was $29-$39, fine, but in this day and age even great MP-focused games like COD who prefer the MP have at least a fun, if not short SP experience. To me, MP only games are a big no. Hence why Unreal 3 wasn't popular on consoles.

Is it a decent shooter? Yes.

Does it have potential? Maybe.

Is it better than Bad Company 2 Beta which I'm playing now? No.

COD: MW2? Not even close.

My final prediction is 7.0 on GameSpot.

Dispite the fact that is was made by Zipper (I think the Socom series was probably the most played titles online on the PS2) This game didn't look all to great to began with. I'll never know, I never planed to pick it up but your reasons are exactly why. It does look quite generic.

I have to agree, but I'll have to say it gets a 6.5 here because I almost never see 7s for some reason.

I played the beta a lot as well and thought it was fun but i do agree that its not like MW2 and if anyone want me to chose between Mw2 and MAG i would go with Mw2 but MAG is still fun in its own way.. i'd give it a 8.5 .. i will get the game but not day 1

Yeah I agree, it's just an average FPS with 256 players.

Zipper should've made Socom 4 instead of this crap.

If true then quite a shame. I was kind of hoping for BFBC2 on a much larger scale but worse graphics...

Still 256 players is a very impressive number. Im curious about Dust514 since it will support the same number of players and crossplatform gameplay between 360 and PS3 :)

eh..killzone 2 sucked, and im a pretty huge coww... looks like this will follow the same steps as KZ2,shame.Another thing, socom confronts community is so small,Zipper was once great, now, not so much as they were with P-ES-TOORatchet_Fan8

You claim to be a cow yet don't know that Zipper didn't make Socom: Confrontation. That was Slant Six. You are one weird cow. :?

Killzone 2 is an incredible game and I still play it. My FPS of the generation so far, could change when BFBC2 comes out. Also, Zipper didn't make Socom Confrontation, that was Slant Six.

Did it suck because you sucked at it? Seriously. As for MAG, I am still hoping that it turns out great but Ive always had my doubts. I primarily play FPSs on the PC but I really wanted MAG to do good, raise the bar a little. However, if it is as generic as people make it out to be, then that probably wont happen. Player numbers in game arent as important as gameplay.

Killzone 2 was actually awesome. If MAG follows Killzone 2 steps then that is a good thing because Killzone 2 suceeded. But I still think MAG sucks.

telling from the majority of the responses here, i might be in the minority here, but i found MAG to be quite enjoyable. Now it's no MW2 and BFBC2 is a better game, but i didn't get the "generic" feel from it at all. Now i must be honest and say that when i 1st played the game, i was unimpressed, but after a numerous times of playing and getting familiar with the game, i grew quite fond of it. What's even funnier is that most of the people i play with all love the game and will be getting it on day 1. Now i'm not stating that their opinions are better than yall's, but i'm just stating how different opinions can be. I'll be getting MAG on release day for sure:D

A lot of the "haters" haven't even played it so...

As for MAG I enjoyed the beta a lot but it does have some flaws but the updates really ironed out the major kinks with it. Its pretty hard to compare it with other shooters because its really feels and plays different. I'm not sure if I'll get it at this point but it has a solid foundation and will be a good game.

We'll see come January but I'll probably pre-order it to continue playing the beta and see how its shaping up before release.

MAG is TERRIBLE, yes, but the controlls are very smoth to me. They had a great idea, but they couldnt pull it of. I agree that everything is generic, boring and lame. Everything about MAG is terrible, especially the animations. I knew the graphics were ps2 like, but the animations are just so stiff. In the end MAG will be the PS3's biggest FLOP and all the sheeps and lemmings will have a field day when the reviews start coming in. I give it a 6.5/10

Thats the exactly what i expected since the game was proposed. Sounds like it should be good, but just doesn't fit together well. The gameplay would have to be executed perfectly and i never got the impression that it would be.

My avatar has nothinng to do with my gaming preference. Yes I have a PS3, the ps3 is the only console I have, and I dont have a Wii cuz I dont like the Wii. I had the MAG beta since August 17, when they first gave out the first wave of beta keys. So dont jump to conclusions mate.

MAG is fun, but its not only a beta, but a beta where I tend to see upgrades happen with each new update. The final product will be much more polished, also when you are hitting someone the game lets you know, just like in Call of Duty.

darn, I was hoping MAG was going to be good. I've been intrigued by 256 vs 256 since that game was announced. was one of those, "make me want a PS3" game, had the concept been executed right. I guess squads would have been unavoidable. could you imagine 256 players, all talking at once in a game.

in some ways i wish i was in the beta for mag just to see how it turned out, i didn't bother because i played a few of the "huge number of guys" (for lack of a better term) shooters back in the day when the pc fad was in full swing and never liked so much as a single one of them

btw if you have not tried the bfbc2 beta yet quit messing about here and find a code and go play it that thing is a blast

I actually stopped reading after the first line. Why would you compare a new game...not even a new game but a new concept of game on consoles (256 player) to a proven franchise like Resistance or Call of Duty.

Um, its 128 vs 128, for talking its not an issue. People can only talk to their squadmates (except for leaders, who have contact with other leaders), while only one person at a time can actually say anything that will be heard.

I strongly disagree with almost everything you said. I love MAG, and I felt intrigued the first time I played it. To me, if felt like a game that actually took a little skill to get good at, where as MW2 feels just like the last, which would be fine, but the didn't fix any of the problems. BFBC2....played thebeta(and since we're basing everything off of betas) and it sucks! Slow and goofy movement, gameplay feels lethargic, personally I would rather play BF1943.

To fair though, I really don't like games like BF because of vehicles. I prefer the smaller, more intimate battles...which oddly enough I can get out of MAG, since yourarely venture in the other part of the map. In closing, by the time MAG comes out I'm sure I with be extremely bored with MW2 and will pickit up day one.

I have been shaking my head since they announced 256 players. Seriously? That is your selling point? Size does not make a game fun to play and there are many examples of this. Take Gears for instance. 5 vs. 5 and it is absolutely fantastic...at least when you don't get in an extremely laggy room. I have tried playing, and sheer size does not make it better than the Halo's and Call of Duty's out currently. The Bad Company 2 beta is much more fun.

I'm just putting this out there, but it might be prudent to wait for MAG to be released before deciding whether or not it's a 'failure'...
