What sequels can compete with those games I mentioned?urdead18
You fail to see the point that many are trying to make. Microsoft are not going to lie down in 2009 and simply take a beating, unless they're planning to throw in the towel. They may very well announce a heap of game (sequels if you will) at GDC in a Gears 2-esque fashion - just like they did this year.
Also, this exact pattern of listing various exclusive games is something that the cows have been doing for the past two years, only to witness said hyped games flop both critically and commercially. Exactly what renders the games you mentioned immune to a similar treatment?
The fact the a lot of people have come out the KZ2 beta saying that it was amazing. The fact that I was in the KZ2 beta and agree whole-heartedly and we've already SEEN gameplay of the games I've mentioned. Do you honestly think it's possible for Gran Turismo 5 or God of War 3 to flop? They're extremely well-known franchises and have had great gameplay and graphics since the beggining. Heavy Rain's gameplay is sketchy to me, but the graphics are incredible. There's no way to mis-interpret a gameplay trailer. It's in-game. Those are the graphics, there's no smoke, there's no mirrors. Gameplay-wise, it very well might flop, however unlikely that is, it may happen, but since we are discussing graphics, that is irrelevant. As usual, games are flooded with positive impression in most, if not all, of the previews that surface before the game releases. Even Lair and Too Human were once praised.
And yes, just like a ton of promising sequel, I wholeheartedly believe KZ2, GT5 and God of War 3 can flop - commercially, unlikely (seeing what happened to Resistance 2, Motorstorm 2 as well as LBP casts some doubt though); and critically, just about anything can happen.
No one believed Zelda: TP would flop around these quarters..we all know what happened though. Ninja Gaiden 2, DMC2, Doom 3...sequels to well-established franchises that failed to live up to their predeccessors. Nothing is set in stone no matter how promising said game looks.
Also, visuals far from tell the whole story; a fact that games such as Lair, Doom 3, Heavenly Sword and quite a few more have proven. Gameplay is more often than not, the determining factor.
