If the price of the machine caused you to lose massive amounts of market share due to the competitors then it was overpriced. Sony and MS make the lions share of their (video game) proft off licensing , not selling the consoles. The idea is to get as many of those consoles into front rooms so that you make that much MORE off licensing.

The ps3 was indeed overpriced. The market made that clear when we saw sony lose a massive amount of install base from ps2->ps3.

What the PS3 gave you.

A next gen console $from $300 to $400.

HDMI non available on any console on 2006.

Wifi sold appart for $100 on the other console of choice.

60GB HDD,the competition one was 20 3 times smaller.

Media Card reader non available on the other console of choice.

Build in rechargeable battery $20 on the other system of choice.

Online free play $50 dollars on the other console of choice.

Were ever you want to see the PS3 value or not vs the xbox 360 is based on how stupid  cosumers are,and now related to what the PS3 actually had value wise.

Yes. But you are not taking into account that the market did not see an added value in the PS3 including a Blu-Ray player. To the market, PS3 = 360 in terms of features. So it was, in fact, over priced. It's the same thing with cars: if the Chevy Malibu costs $5K more than the Camry, it is over priced - it doesn't matter if Chevy were to give a bigger engine, real wood trim, etc for that $5K. They are perceived by the market to be equal in value, but one costs $5K more. In contrast, a BMW 5 series, also a mid-sized sedan, is $20K more than the Camry, but there is a perceived value there, so it is not over-priced compaired to a Camry.

Why it was overpriced is not the arguement here.

Whether or not you think Kinect + Media Funcitons is irrelevent is not the issue. Much like Sony saying "the PS3 is $200 more than the 360 because of Blu-Ray and built in Wi-Fi", MS can say "The XB1 is more expensive than the PS4 because of Kinect & Media functions". Is either one correct? On a technical level, I don't know. What I do know is that a lot of people discounted either point, and basically said "PS3 = 360, but the 360 is cheaper"; much like a lot of people now are saying "PS4 = XB1, but PS4 is $100 cheaper."

That's the point: To a lot of people, the PS3 was over priced. To a lot of people, the XB1 is overpriced (to a lesser extent). It doesn't matter what arguments people make as to the extra value of one console over the other - to most people, they are the same.

Both the PS4 and XBOX ONE have sold out of their preorders from Amazon and Gamestop, but both have refilled them. The only difference is now the XBOX ONE has bundles on GS. Still no bundles on Amazon though. Not sure why people are bringing up preorders for launch systems? Both the XBOX ONE and PS4 will sell out of their initial stock the first day, unlike Nintendo who just sold out of their initial stock 7 months after release of the Wii U, LOL! :lol:

The preorder slots for the X1 are less than half of the slots of the PS4, if both sold out, that means the PS4 will sell double of what the X1 will sell, and that is only from a country where both will exist. In many countries of EU only the PS4 will exist this year. That is an automatic win for the PS4 there.
