why do you need to listen to PR bs? We know the specs. You don't need to be an expert nerd to know that specs inside PS4 are mid range. There's not secret sauce, no amazing specs pc's will get three years from now, but just a gpu worth $100 and a cellphone cpu.
Everyone knows the next gen consoles are more powerful than the average PC gaming rig.
Why do you think the hermits havent been doing the master race/console peasant schtick as much lately? Alot of them probably have weaker hardware.
Notice the wording "computers" of wich there are hundreds of millions of them instead of "gaming PC´s".
Some of the folks that make these statements know that some people are stupid enough to actually confuse the statement and take it as if they mean gaming rigs when they just mean computers in the broadest sense.
@BeardMaster: My pc is already more powerful so that's all I care about and there will probably be more people who own more powerful gaming rigs than those who own the ps4 after its launch anyways. Unless somehow your able to actually get the average spec of every single gaming pc than its nothing but speculations.

Not an apple to orange comparsion since the PC market is a very large market with unit sales around 300 million per year.
The minority 5 percent of 300 million would yield 15 million.
This isn't the first time a console developer has touted their dominance over "the majority" of PCs out there, instead of over the other console. It seems to me like they're a little scared...

yea man, steam gives out hardware stats. PS4 is way more powerful.
to be honest, I don't know a single PC gamer. I only see em on forums.
yea me either...probably cause they don't get out too often :D

No not the average gaming rig but the average PC. Big difference because the average gaming rig is easily more powerful than a PS4.

those are hardly definitive, and only accounts for steam users and only a portion of those

Well steam users generally have better PCs, and people with better PCs generally like to brag about their PCs, such as in polls. Ever seen anyone on here with a terrible PC put their specs in their sig? Alot of PC users like to brag about their specs, ever seen a single one that has an intel HD graphics card listed as their primary gpu?

The steam hardware survey isn't a poll

mine isnt anymore. Nor are any of my PC gaming friends, sounds like a major assumption.

According to steam stats alone out of the 65M steam users there´s around 15M PC´s already better than the PS4 and X1 spec wise, those are already huge numbers considering those consoles aren´t even out,by the time those consoles reach 15M sales the steam users numbers will be vastly higher.
And again,that´s just steam alone.
@BeardMaster: Base on that over 14 million pc gamer have better specs than the ps4/xb1 based on those stats and that doesn't represent the average PC rig since its only a portion of them from steam. And the survey is optional I didn't even do one and lol the survey isn't a poll you got the wrong idea.
It's true. Most pc gamers on steam have shitty laptops or shitty pre builds with integrated gpus.
Only a small percentage of pc gamers have high end rigs.

But that's not what really matters.
What matters is the point in time when PC developers start assuming the baseline computer for their target audience is more powerful than a PS4.
Developers have to pick a starting point as far as PC stats go which they use to create their game. Things like animations, level complexity, A.I. complexity, etc are designed around this baseline computer.
Sure, if you have a NASA supercomputer you can crank the graphics quality and resolution through the roof, but these base game mechanics don't change much.
Well duh, everyone knows most Steam users have 4GB of RAM or less, 1GB of VRAM or less, Dual Core CPU or less, and monitors with resolution of 1600x900 or lower

My recent Valve's Hardware and Software survey has detected my "AMD Radeon HD 8870M" as "Intel (R) HD Graphics 4000".
My laptop is a Samsung ATIV Book 8 (880Z5E) running Windows 8.1 Pro with MCE + Samsung's AMD Enduro drivers (Catalyst 13.9 + Intel 10.18.10.3304).
I also have AMD Radeon HD 7950 at 1 Ghz + Intel Core i5-2500K + Mini-ITX based PC..
"Most computers"
Yea, probably. Most computers are running mid-tier Intel chipsets with integrated graphics of some sort.
Even regarding gamers this is true. The last Steam survey I saw something like 30% of all Steam members surveyed were using Intel Integrated graphics. If 1/3 Steam regulars are using integrated graphics, how much more people who aren't gaming?
He spoke the obvious.
Yes considering the amount of what we here would call pc gamers is probably a much slimmer demographic than we think. And most "computers" are probably laptops.
Well yah.
I have one gaming PC in my house, and two cheapo laptops I use for work-type stuff, so the PS4 is more powerful than most of the PCs in my house.
There are tens of millions of "cheapo" laptops just like mine sold every quarter of every year, so it's not a stretch to say the PS4 is more powerful than most PCs.
What next? The Xbox One is more powerful than most consoles?
Lol @ all you nerds getting all butt hurt and salty for no reason. If you read the article he is not knocking gaming PCs.. He is just hyped to be working on newish tech.. rofl @ the comments in this thread wow...
Well of course he is happy. He doesn't have to work with a crappy archaic piece of hardware anymore so everything feels like paradise to him.
That doesn't make what he said deep though. Of course is more powerful than most computers. Most computers are crap that are used for facebook.
Keyword here is most and computers which i have always said is a nebulous term in describing PC gaming. That market is so fragmented it is difficult to ascertain if the majority have set ups stronger than next generation consoles or not

Then yours isn't a gaming rig. I'm not sure why you think a 7850 and laptop cpu would be considered "powerful". 7850 is mid to low range now and while gaming PC will only continue to get better with each and every update from AMD and Nvidia.
This is the 1st generation where the consoles will actually be significally weaker than PCs at launch.
Everyone knows the next gen consoles are more powerful than the average PC gaming rig.

What are you talking about? PC games already look vastly superior to any console game and the gap is only going to get wider. You don't need a super computer to crank the resolution up. The $300 7970 can run games at twice the resolution as any of the consoles.
PS4 is weak, XOne is even weaker and the PC will only distance itself further as the gen moves along. This really isn't up for debate.
