Yes. I have a core i7 860 @ 3.2ghz, 4gb 1600mhz DDR3 ram and HD 5870.

I expect the PS4 to be better on all aspects except ram and HDD. (might have a 500gb HDD and 1gb ram)

Mozelleple112

I doubt it unless your willing to spent $700 on the next console. If its out by 2013

Because console gamers never brag about graphics?

malikmmm

There's a console graphics king thread right now.

and the irony is that it was started by the same user "stark"

I'm sensing some sort of irony here. Could be wrong though :P

Also the funnier think is that when we talk about graphics is usually in threads created by console fans that are saying staff like KZ>crysis in graphics

It should be unless it goes the Wii way. At release a good console should have insane specs considering the price you pay for it.

New consoles don't necessarily have a technical edge over PC's that are their contemporary. Their graphics cards are usually modified versions of a top graphics card at the time or one coming down the pipeline, they have modified existing CPU's (except in Sony's case, but the performance is in the same ballpark), and they have less Ram than a contemporary PC. Their hardware isn't better than the best contemporary PC's, simply put. In fact, new consoles are historically just a bit behind upcoming PCs when you take their hardware as a whole - but that slightly weaker hardware is far more optimized and streamlined than PC hardware.

That being the case though, almost every gen I can remember has the consoles putting out the most technically impressive games at the time in the first year or so of their lifespan. Why is this? Even with hardware that isn't as good as the best PCs, it is extremely optimized, and console game makers never have to say to themselves "Ok, if we make a game that uses the best possible hardware 100%, most of our audience won't be able to play it." Epic could make Gears of War what it was, the best looking game at the time, and 100% of XBOX's could play it - whereas Crytek knew making Crysis that a huge portion of its potential audience would not be able to play their game.

So summed up? Consoles, even out the game, do not have hardware that trumps PCs - but developers can safely use it as best they possibly know how right out the gate and every console user can still enjoy the game... Unlike PCs which are limited not just by upper hardware limits, but by average user hardware limits.

PS4 will probably have more heat dissipation problems from using newer modified old PC parts.:P

Sony will not be able to gimp a GT 590 and put it into a case with one fan.:P

If Sony also goes the APU route it the graphics wont be any better then todays low to midranged gpu's. Its all about production cost, power needed, and heat produced which are really the deciding factors. I doubt they will create an high ended console that needs 400-500w of power to compete againist Pc's. All they need to compete with is the current consoles which can be be beaten with low ended hardware.

Nope because at the very time they finalise the specs, I doubt they will the top specs at that time....why? Cost!!! Then you will have another year or so before release by which time the very top end GPUs and CPUs would have moved on.

Sure, it's possible for the PS4 to be more powerful than anyone's gaming PC here. It's possible for any future console to be more powerful than any PC. The price however, would be astronomically outrageous.

Either way, time will pass and the new dynamic hardware will leave the static hardware in the dust.

You know, its kinda poitless making these assumptions, obviously it is very likely that the PS4 will be more power than most pc's, since from my understanding, most pc's arent gaming rigs. But when the console is announced, a realease date is slated for the console and games, its very likely that after the 6 months to year after the system is annouced, that most gaming rigs will be more powerful than the PS4 10 fold.

It won't take a year... 8800gtx for example came out right after the PS3 released. I doubt the ps4/nextbox will be as powerful relative to what the ps3/360 did, mainly because Sony won't launch another $600 console, and MS doesn't want another RROD situation on its hand.

It better be, considering how long this generation is probably gonna last... would be pathetic if the 'next' gen is < a 5850, i7920 and 6gb ram... However, it may have less ram, going by all the years of consoles having absolutely none >.>

And by 'better be' I mean if they hold back pc development any further... by releasing seriously out of date garbage... I'll shoot some penguins, endangered ones.

my laptop's specs are so low that the wii would be a closer comparison than a next generation console.

i think that the ps4 might be more powerful than top of the line pc's now (although thats a different matter on whether or not sony will go the wii route or focus on its strengths as a diverse electronics company), but its really unlikely that there wouldnt be pc hardware better than ps4 hardware upon its release. even if there werent, pc hardware would still surpass it early in the ps4 lifecycle. its just the nature of console vs. pc. both have their advantages, but hardware power is on the side of pc.

Forget about the PS4. The PS3's Cell processor already features nine 128-bit cores running at 3.2 GHz each. Even five years after its release, the Cell still hasn't been surpassed by any PC CPU processors currently on the market.

With more RAM, the consoles could run Crysis... but thats a bit like saying I wouldn't be so poor if I only had a million dollars lol.

Ha, true. But they would need like 8 times the amount of RAM they currently have, plus much better GPU's to get anything decent lol.

Well Crysis only needs 1GB minimum lol.. well plus 256/512 of VRAM. But I think Crytek said if they had more RAM they would have tried porting it to consoles, but its neither here nor there really.

I said maybe, althoug probably yes. The PS3 was using pretty much up to date hardware (a bit outdated once it released) when it released, and the PS4 isnt even announced yet, so it will probably be slightly stronger than my PC which is:

4 GB RipJaw Ram

GTX 570

i5 750 OC'd to 4 GHz

Not sure what you're implying. If you think that a workstation gpu cant run games (as many people seem to think oddly enough) you would be incorrect.

Well let's see my PC (specially my laptop) has

4 GB RAM

500 GB Hard Drive

2.1 GHz AMD Athlon II Dual Core M320

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 128 MB

I believe so. And I'm not a PC gamer, which is why I have a laptop (that and the fact that I'm in school)

This topic doesn't make sense. How can you tell if your PC is more powerful than the PS4? We have absolutely no idea of the specs of PS4 and it's pretty obvious that PS4 will be more powerful than any PC for the first couple months it will be out.

Eh.. its hard to say really. A lot of factors can be taken into consideration. You can check the specs hereif you're interested. Its no slouch, I'll tell you that. But the reason they are so expensive is largely due to driver support.

Yeah it will definitely be more powerful. The PS4 will have the top end graphics available at that time (most likely). However, by the time it releases, I Will have upgraded my PC, so by then my PC will be more powerful.

Cheesehead9099

Thats will not happen they have to watch costs, power usage and heat produced. I doubt they will pass 350w of power usage which means it will not have top end in anything. Sony and MS will not redo what they did with the start of this gen because it has costed them dearly. MS didnt make a bit of money on the 360 itself until mid-late 2008 then having to repair at least 50% of the xboxs released. Then Sony didnt see any profit from the PS3 until months after the release of the slim. Needless to say they both will turn to APU tech designs to solve the issues stated above, (Which MS is already looking at AMD's Fusion 2 APU tech). For them to release a top ended console that matches a current top tier gaming Pc's you will expect a $600-$700 price tag even if released in 2013. Even with the release of the PS3 is was out done by the very same chipset it's gpu was based on the 7800GTX. And shortly after the PS3's release it was left in the dust by the Nvidia 8800GTX which was nearly 3x faster with 3x the video memory with a new API, Direct x 10 based hardware. Also on another note the rate that APU gpu performance is going by 2012 you will see ATI 5670 / Geforce 9800 type of performnace by the end of 2012. By end of 2013 you might see ATI 5770/ GTS 450 range of performance. The companies only have to compete with their current consoles which doesnot need much to do today.

Yes, cuz the PS4 doesn't exist yet, though a year after it's release, i'll probably have a system that exceeds it's specs.

When 360 released in 2005, it was about the equivalent of medium end PCs at the time. If PS4 releases in 2012, wouldn't it makes sense for it to be on par with medium/high end PCs of today?
